America cast its historic vote today, sending Barack and Michelle Obama back to the White House while sending Mitt and Ann Romney back to 1954.
The election meant the end of the road for Mr. Romney, who had been actively seeking the Presidency for the past sixty-five years.
If he had won tonight, Mr. Romney would have become the first man elected President after telling half of the country to screw themselves.

More good news for the Democratic party:
Former Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) will return to Congress after defeating Republican candidate Todd Long.
“I’m going to do my best when it comes to jobs, when it comes to housing, when it comes to education [and] when it comes to human needs,” Grayson told his supporters, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
For those who don't know who Mr. Grayson is he is the one who told us that the GOP healthcare plan was for American'a who get sick should die quickly, he lost his seat 2 years ago and now has regained his seat in Congress.

People online and in the media will be blabbing about the election for about a week. It will be a nice break until things go back to the way they were.
Soon we will be back to Fox News, Rush Limbaugh drones talking about how Obama is some Socialist, Marxist, Communist, Kenyan, Atheist, Muslim who will use his evil black Jesus powers to somehow destroy all our freedoms.
We'll have more lunatics fire bombing Planned Parenthoods, putting on tinfoil hats, and stockpiling more weapons because they're afraid Obama's secret Satanist Muslim powers will magically take all their guns away. I'll honestly be surprised if we don't have more mass shootings and possibly our own Anders Behring Breivik.
We will be back to the Ron Paul fans (possibly the most obnoxious people on the internet,) foaming at the mouth to bring us back to the antiquated gold standard, screaming RON PAUL 2016, even though he'll be 81 during the next presidential election cycle.
We will be back to everyone being called racist for not liking Obama for anything other than liberal reasons. It will once again be cool to hate whitey, of course. We'll also be back to the so-called "open minded" liberals being complete hypocrites.
And we'll be back to the bipolar Obama supporters. I'm talking about the same people get all excited about Obama, then cry about how all their fantasies weren't delivered by their messiah.
So, just enjoy the peace while it lasts before it's back to business as usual.

Actually, I'm glad Obama won. I was a Romney supporter at first, but the things he had to say turned me off. He was creepy, like Al Gore.

I definitely hear you on that, Gabby. I was willing to hear him out since he wasn't too awful in Massachusetts. The more I heard from him the more I realized how much of a shill he actually was.
He's also such a bad Mormon that he couldn't even get a second wife. Come on now, Romney!

He's also such a bad Mormon that he couldn't even get a second wife. Come on now, Romney! Thanks for perhaps the only laugh I've gotten in this thread. Folks, I love the south. I've lived here all of my life, but there's some very disturbing shit going on. Last night up to 400 students rioted at Ole Miss as a result of the presidential election. Today I heard that there was fight at the high school in my little Alabama town about the election. I think Barack Obama is a good decent man, and I think he loves this country and more importantly the people who comprise it. However, I've not seen this level of hate in the south since the 1960s. I was a child when John F. Kennedy was assasinated in Dallas. I also Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King murdered the same way. I'm happy that President Obama won, but I hope the Secret Service is doing a better job now than they have done before. The level of hate I see in the south is very much rascist. Now the veneer is pulled back, and it's easy to see that the roots still lie here and are strong. People in my area get their news from Fox TV, and they're more upset that a black man won against a white man, despite unprecedented attempts to vilify him. Yes, I know, they did the same thing to Bill Clinton, who is one of the brightest thinkers we've seen in the presidency, but who was an imperfect man. However, the racist fuel added by the Obama hate machine leaves that behind in the dust. I'm not a religious person, but I will pray for President Obama's safety. A country that kills the best and brightest makes me ashamed. And I don't ever want to have to feel that again. I am proud that we saw the defeat of other candidates from the Stone Age who don't believe in a woman's right to choose what happens in her own body in cases of rape. who think that evolution, embryology, the big bang, and pretty much all of science are 'lies from the pit of hell,' --and these were elected officials who sat on the House Science Committee. It makes me proud that we turned them out like the charlatans they are. While we decry middle eastern countries like Iran and Pakistan where a woman can be stoned to death for looking at a man, there are those who would like nothing better than to set up a theocracy like that in the United States. Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan stated that President Obama was against traditional Judeo-Christanic views, in a vain attempt to court the evengelical vote. And at least one pastor claimed that voting for Obama was 'paving the way for the Anti-Christ." We have no business criticizing other countries when one of our major parties is almost as Stone-Age and fundamentalist as they. There is no more old-white-guy majority in the United States. We are diverse, and that makes us stronger and better. The only way the Republican party can survive is to shed the skin of extreme right views and move to the place where most Americans live, the almost non-existant idea of being moderates. If they do that, they just might have a chance in 2016. My advice? Lose all of the crazies, the Todd Aikens, the Sarah Palins, the Newt Gingriches, the Donald Trumps, and get real thinkers back into the party. It's the only way you've got a shot. And I would love our country to have a real dialogue about ideas and facts, for a change.

I have a new hero, and he's a Republican. Who'd have ever thought, huh? But here's who he is and here's why:
When I first saw New Jersey governor Chris Christie delivering the address at the Republican National Convention I thought he was just a crass blowhard. Little did I know what he had inside him.
John F. Kennedy once said something to the effect that the best Presidents were never afraid to go against their own party, and I believe that. Having that job changes you, and minority opinions become even more important when you seek to make the best decision.
This takes courage, and that's something we don't see too often these days.
Governor Christie had the balls to say that President Obama had been there every step of the way for New Jersey, even though he got the predictable fallout from the Republican party for simply saying what he believed. And he responded "if you think I give a damn about Presidential politics at this point you're crazy." He stood up for the people who elected him above all.
This is the kind of guy that if you were in a war, you'd want in the foxhole with you. A guy with courage and heart. Turns out he's a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. Here's a clip of him singing "Thunder Road" with Jimmy Fallon:

And here he talks about meeting Springsteen, and crying after they hugged.
Anybody that's that big a fan and has the courage he does is worthy of admiration. He's a Republican even my liberal ass could vote for and be proud. This is a guy with heart, brains, and courage.
And the party is crazy if they don't run him in 2016.

I've been a Republican for years...but after listening to Romney's campaign I'm re-thinking my party affiliation.
But the main thing that got me thinking was all of the vile, racist things I've read from Romney's supporters...especially what they said about Obama. There was talk of lynching, raping his daughters...I was sick, just sick. Goddamn redneck motherfuckers.
So for the moment, I don't belong to ANY party. But I will ALWAYS have fond memories of George W. Bush. That man made me proud to be an American.

I've been hearing that we Floridians have been left behind as far as the presidential election goes. www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57546764/presidential-election-decided-but-florida-left-behind/I know that some of my family wanted to vote for Romney... there's no doubt that I'm gonna be hearing about that for another week or so. Edit: After reading the article again, it's South Florida that is still tallying the votes. How frustrating. I think this was the first election that I knew who I wanted to vote for... unfortunately, my parents never took me to get registered to vote. I think I would have voted for Obama anyways, so I am glad Obama won. But I'm gonna start nagging my parents into helping me register to vote.

I was so happy early when I had heard Rush's predictions and polls saying it was going to be Romney, and he was way ahead in the popular vote and the electoral college. But later it was definitely going against him.
I just hope Obama and Congress can find a way to deal with the debt now. But given what has been said about his policies, I'm not confident I will make a lot of money this year. Even Obama's re-election sent the stock market down. I was hoping it was going up and up, but right now there doesn't seem to be much reason for optimism except still more promises from Obama.
And Obamacare, as much as we would like it (and I could benefit, but don't know yet) can't be paid for except by the Chinese, and we can't have that. On "Modern Family" the comment was made to this four-year-old girl that she was going to be paying for the care her cousin was getting right now.
But under Romney, a lot would have happened that I wouldn't like, so I guess I am glad Obama won.

Library story!
The woman who processes new books at the college library and puts them in the card catalog, who is kind of young, said to the woman who runs the checkout desk and is in charge of student workers, who is older than I am, said, "Ha, ha! My man won and your man lost!"

And they say it in a no-nonsense tone. We had the largest voter turnout this election than ever before. A standing joke is that in the mayoral election two years ago, the only people who showed up to vote was the mayor's family.

I seem to recall a couple of years ago they would ask at the library if you were registered and they could register you right there. It must have been when people were getting library cards. I forgot this. I was at one county library which was a polling place on Election Day (the old library is connected to the new one, and it's the old library where they do that) and every few minutes I could hear someone at the reference desk answering a question. No, you go to your designated polling place. You could only come here for early voting. No, you can't register today. That was only possible with early voting.

That sounds very disappointing for the people who did not understand that different procedures applied during early voting. I was able to walk to the early polling place which was very fortunate since I did not need to look for a parking spot like so many other people. I don't know if our libraries register voters, but I saw that there were signs posted there urging people to get registered. That would be a good place to encourage the young people who come in to use the computers.

The country formerly known as the United States of America no longer exists. We are now officially a quasi-socialist state. It is populated by more TAKERS than MAKERS. Everyone says that sort of thing after every political election. Don't get fooled into falling in with the false left/right divide. Everyone is already bought and paid for by the same people anyway. Republicans aren't going to magically save the day by taking us back to an era where Republicans of that time would be considered hardcore leftists by today's standards. Those who sign the checks for these politicians sit up there and laugh at all of us when we spend our time solely blaming the other party, the poor people who need assistance, Christians, gay people, black people, white people, the "patriarchy," or whatever else is used as a wedge to divide and conquer. The best thing anyone can do is get all their news from multiple sources with different narratives. Also, pay attention who funds these news outlets. If you follow where the money goes, you will discover what angle they're trying to play.

Let me clear up some misconceptions.
Barack Obama believes he is me. But I have elves and reindeer. He has the Chinese. And they are not doing what they do out of the goodness of their hearts, the way I am. They expect a return on their investment, which with today's interest rates is really just getting their money back.
I enjoy giving gifts to children and helping out the truly needy.
However, this is not government's job. People who give to charities, people who contribute to fund-raisers for large medical bills, people who help the truly needy directly, bosses featured on "Undercover Boss"--these are the ones really doing what should be done. It is wonderful if government programs can help when they are the only safety net--if the government has that money to spend. The U.S. government does not.

I saw somethng encouraging. Apparently Obama and Romney are talking about how to make government more efficient. Even Al Gore wanted to do this.
Wouldn't it be nice if Romney was hired to be the person put in charge of this. Even if we don't get rid of all the programs, they could be made to work better.

Actually, Governor Romney's plan for health care in Massachusetts was the model that was used for drafting the Affordable Healthcare Act, so it would seem that if the hatchets could be buried, he would be an extremely valuable resource in implementing it.
However, I dispair of party politics ever allowing Republicans and Democrats to work together again, as they have in the past, for the benefit of all Americans. What a great gift it would be to see our elected officials working together, for a change.
