Looks like the boys are hunting monsters this week. What is the strange black goo coming out of Mama Winchester's eye?

It was a good monster episode that I enjoyed - until the last scene. It started with a scene reminiscent of many scary movies. A woman does something illogical like running into an abandoned house that even looks haunted. Call 911 but don’t wait for backup. Was that a doll in the crib? It was really messed up. That poor woman and her sweet husband did not deserve to have their hearts frozen and die a horrific death.
Sam is very protective of his mom and did not want her to hunt. He is very happy to have the opportunity to be with her and get to know her. But big brother Dean was enthusiastic about a family hunt. Those snacks sounded like they would taste strange, but Mary and Dean apparently like the same snacks and music.
Mary received a frost burn from the boy ghost, but she has good instincts. She deduced the boy did not want to hurt her, but her sons were not convinced. Although I did not think it was a good idea for Mary to return to the haunted house, her actions led to solving the case. Before she went back, she seemed to have a vision or connection to the child and he was asking for help. She did not tell Dean and Sam about that.
That final scene was messed up, in my opinion. The boys were so hurt that their mother wanted to leave them and I felt bad for them when she walked away and the door slammed.
When Vincente’s sister said he ran off with his groupie friend, a red headed woman, Crowley’s expression was very funny. Cas looked irritated and accused Crowley of just wanting to find his mother. Rowena truly is a powerful witch. She put a hurting on Lucifer and sent him to the bottom of the ocean. I was a little surprised when she said she would help if Cas and Crowley cornered Lucifer and needed help. Will Lucifer be in another vessel the next time we see him?
I noticed Castiel showed unusual thoughtfulness when he assured Mary that she does belong here. We did get a little bit of comic relief when we heard the fake name Castiel chose – Agent Beyoncé. Then he called Crowley Agent Zee, as in Jay-Z.

This episode had good parts in it, but a few others were a little slow to me. I am wondering if this is the change in stories they talked about before the season got started, to me if feels like something is missing from the episodes. It almost gets there but then it doesn't quite make it to where I love it, but maybe it is just me.
I did like Cas telling Mary she belonged, but found it slightly creepy that Cas wanders the bunker at night, is he patrolling, or what? I know there have to be tons of rooms in the bunker, surely he has his own room. I did like he and Crowley teaming up, and I think Rowena needs to be protected now, when Lucifer comes back he will not he happy and will most likely go after her. Crowley calling Cas-Cassie. LOL I like Cas hunting on his own, but let's keep the Cas doesn't get certain references to a minimum, don't forget Metatron gave him lots of useful information a couple of seasons, we don't need stupid Cas for a laugh.
I like Mary, no nonsense and not a damsel in distress, we need more of that. I find it funny the guys tower over her, but they listen to her and defer to her. I did understand her reasons for leaving, it has to be such a huge shock to her and she naturally needs time to come to grips with what has happened.
However in doing so she has opened up lots of old wounds for Dean especially, just the way he stepped back and pulled away from her, showed how hurt and betrayed he feels. His abandonment issues never really go away, poor guy. While Sam was hurt also, he seemed a little more willing to give the time she needed, I think that is just Sam's way with most things, to be a little forgiving with family. Or maybe he is just so happy to have time with Mary, he is more than willing to let her have or do whatever she wants.
I was liking Rick S. as Lucifer, I wonder if he will stick around, or what?

This episode had good parts in it, but a few others were a little slow to me. I am wondering if this is the change in stories they talked about before the season got started, to me if feels like something is missing from the episodes. It almost gets there but then it doesn't quite make it to where I love it, but maybe it is just me. I enjoyed reading your review. For me, the fear factor is missing. I do not want to be full of anxiety, but I want to get a chill or a thrill during the hunts. Aw…I think it is lonely for him to be up all night with nothing to do and no one to talk to. He seemed sad to me when he entered the room. His second choice would be creepier – staring at Dean while he sleeps. I also like Cas and Crowley teaming up and they are entertaining. The boys like to use musicians’ names so I forgive him for “Beyoncé”, mainly because it made me laugh. (Maybe that was a hint that she needs a last name.) Rowena will definitely need protection from Lucifer and that is why I was surprised she was brave enough to volunteer to help Crowley and Cas.Mary is an excellent character. Although I was shocked that she returned, she fit into the story very well. When Mary described what she left behind in Heaven, it was the first time I thought about what her Heaven would be like. She had John and both of her young sons and she was suddenly yanked away from them. That is sad; yet, my heart goes out to her adult sons.
Did anyone else think (at first) she wanted her life to end so she could return to Heaven? She took John’s book so she does plan to be around. Me too. I thought he would be with us for months based on the hype surrounding his character. I hope he can return.

I enjoyed the episode. Reminded me of the early days of monster hunting......just with a little estrogen added. I'm liking Mama Winchester. I wasn't sure how her character was going to fit in, but both the writers and actors are making her return a welcome addition.
I like how she wanted to make lots of phone calls to turn up information on the missing children and the house while Sam tells her he has already found the first child lost there on the computer. Mary has some high tech advancement ahead of her.
Sad about the guy who lost his wife and child, but evil that after walling himself up in the house, his spirit decided to steal children for himself.
Mary's interaction with Lucas's spirit was wonderful. When she told him she had "spoken to his mommy..." I wanted to cry. And when she spoke to the mom over the phone, I loved how she told Mary that no one seemed to like talking over the phone anymore.
Then ending was sad. While I agree with Mary that she is out of place and needs time to herself, I was so broken hearted over Dean's reaction. I can only think he is feeling deserted again. I think Sam will handle it better.
I want to see more of Rick Springfield's Lucifer. I never thought anyone could replace Mark Pelligrino, but Springfield brings such a delicious evil to his scenes. Not too sure about Rowena, though.
Looking forward to next week.

Maybe we love Mary more than some others around the web. Came across the following comment:

Evidently, getting burned on the ceiling of her kid's bedroom by a demon doesn't cut much slack for Mary with some fans.
