Which ones don't belong & why?
Eg. Lily - Jane - Tulip - Rose
Jane does not belong as it's the only one which is not a flower
Tulip also does not belong because it's the only one which is not a girl's name
1. Dodge - Ford - Lincoln - Hoover Hoover is not a car.
2. King - Earl - Knight - Bishop Earl is not a chess piece.
3. Yellow - Green - Dead - Black Dead is not a color.

We're all nuts .. can you name us?
1. Big country in South America. Brazil nut 2. A pod is my pad. Peanut 3. This came down in Germany. Walnut 4. Confection ingredient. Butternut 6. Gorillas show dominance by beating this. Chestnut 7. May be found in the company of a witch. Hazelnut

For the top one, you have the first set of eliminations correct , but you also have to eliminate a second set of words. See the example: Lily - Jane - Tulip - Rose (not a flower) Lily - Jane - Tulip - Rose (not a girl's name) Second one: #5 hint - what might you be told not to do while taking a test in school? ETA: #4 is incorrect for the Nut puzzle.

Oh, good, you're doing more of them.
I have two.
A teacher asked if anyone in her class had a birthday that day. No one did. She asked if anyone in the class had a family member with a birthday. One little girl said yes. Her father and grandfather were both celebrating birthdays that day, and they were the same age. How can this be?
A town that attracted a lot of tourists had a serious pickpocketing problem, so the town put up signs in the worst area warning tourists about the problem. The rate of pickpocketing doubled, so the signs came down. Why?

Here's a word game while you guys contemplate the other riddles : A spoonerism is a pair of words that can have their initial sounds switched to form new words. The pairs need only sound the same, not necessarily be spelled the same (power saw & sour paw, horse cart & coarse heart). There may sometimes be one or two connecting words (kick the stone & stick the cone, king of the rats & ring of the cats). Given the following definitions, what are the spoonerisms? 1) overweight dam builder & symptom of a sick flying mammal 2) bottom of the ocean & an insect-bitten dog has this 3) a cooking utensil & a nosy admirer 4) the person in charge of clocks and watches & the result of exposing silent actors to the sun 1) overweight dam builder & symptom of a sick flying mammal fat beaver and bat fever2) bottom of the ocean & an insect-bitten dog has this AVP answered this one with sea floor and flea sore 3) a cooking utensil & a nosy admirer frying pan and prying fan4) the person in charge of clocks and watches & the result of exposing silent actors to the sun time man and mime tan

"What's the password?" asked The Voice, with a weasel-like demeanor. Agent X was confused, until he realized he had received a strange postcard weeks before. The crafty spy still needed to enter the underground cellar leading to a new set of gadgets to be used on the next mission, but he was halted by The Voice's presence. What the postcard said might help Agent X find the password The Voice needs to allow the spy into the secret lair. The postcard says this: A relative of mine was expelled. It was my niece. Wouldn't you agree? It was because she joined a band of bikers. She's doing lots of things wrong. She always shows a lot of toughness.
P.S. Isaac Newton: Near orange bags lying east. Gets as strange equally slowly. |
What is the password? Explain. Noble GasesFirst letter of each word following the postscript Isaac Newton. Newton was a member of the Royal Society and a renown scientist.

I'm really hoping the father & maternal grandfather's families have wildly different generational gaps, rather than the former...

Half incorrect. 'Green' is correct for the other elimination, but you're reasoning is wrong. Think geography.
Still incorrect. Hint: while the answer has 'nut' in it, and there is some debate over what it actually is, it is generally considered a seed or a fruit instead.

The Spoonerisms are correct You have almost half of it. The P.S. is just the clue for finding the password, but you need to include the Isaac Newton part

Was grandfather born in a leap year? You mean he was born on February 29th? That's an interesting theory, but they'd still need to be born in the same year for them both to be the same age, as they would both be affected by the missing birthdays if they were both born on the 29th.

Word Ladder - follow the clues to form the word ladder, at each step letters are added, subtracted or rearranged:
The old adage says to do this again. Add one, make a city of fame way back when.
OY becomes IP and you'll have a nice fall. Change I to A and you'll catch it all.
Insert an M: make an invention of Chaplin. Change T to C and with pain you'll be grapplin'.
Replace second with H: a winner for sure! Lose second to last: you'll want balm for a cure.
Drop the H to make something to go on your head. Change one and an adage will leave this thing dead.

Taltos: Before I start on the nice ones that I awakened to this morning, I want to see if I am on the right track with this one.
There is a word in the English language whose first two letters indicate a male, whose first three letters indicate a female, whose first four letters are a great man, and the whole word is a great woman.
What is the word?
Does it start with MR MRS
And Teaser post #184 about the password. "In noble gases" - would part of the answer be AIR?

The Planet find & Ladder puzzle are correct.

A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. He waited by the door and listened. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said "twelve." The member replied "six " and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said "six." The member replied "three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said "ten" and the man replied "five." but he was not let in. What should have he said? ________________________________________________________ There was an Olympic Boxer who had a doctor brother, but the doctor had no brothers. How is this possible? Answer to the first is: 3. The second, I agree with Anti!
