BIG news. From EW.com: "A Firefly reunion is coming to Comic-Con. Science Channel, which airs repeats of the short-lived Fox cult favorite, is hosting a 10-year anniversary panel for the sci-fi show. Creator Joss Whedon and writer Tim Minear along with stars Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Michael Fairman are all expected to be on board. The panel is being held Friday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m." insidetv.ew.com/2012/06/27/firefly-comic-con/Wouldn't you so love to be there for that? And of course, the million dollar question that someone will have to ask Joss Whedon, now that he's the movie industry's golden boy, is when do we get a new Firefly adventure?

The Firefly movie was supposed to be one of three, but the revenue on the movie wasn't considered enough to do the other two. I doubt that Joss would want to risk his current track record by doing films that might not bring in the money. Sometimes, in the industry, you are considered to be only as good as your last film.

A three-picture deal is pretty much standard for what a film company might consider a tent-pole franchise. With the performance in dvd sales it's a pretty good guess that the movie finally made a profit: www.whedon.info/article.php3?id_article=14008The cancellation of Firefly has also been listed by The Hollywood Reporter as one of network TV's biggest blunders of the decade. Once a director achieves a certain status it's not unusual at all the for them to adopt a 'one for me and one for them' attitude of doing blockbusters VS smaller films or personal projects. So, I don't think it's out of the question. I purposely said 'Firefly adventures' to leave it open to wider possibilities than just a major motion picture, although that would be great.

OMG Moon I was supposed to be at Comic Con this year but it fell apart and I couldn't get the tickets.
I'm going to just curl up and die crying now Ooh, I feel your pain. Passes for the panel are long gone already. However, we'll be doing everything possible to post all the info here, as it becomes available.

NATHAN FILLION!!! OMG... okay, count me in as a browncoat! Well, still gotta watch the series... and I only know Nathan because he's in Castle, but I love him enough to give Firefly a chance! And since I can now record in my bedroom, I will definately start recording and have myself a marathon! Okay... okay... I kinda think he's kinda cute...

You're in for a wonderful experience. Make sure you watch them in the proper order. Fox network aired them out of sequence when the show debuted in 2002, and it DOES make a difference. Check the wikipedia entry for Firefly for more info on the intended episode order. Since Fox shut the show down just before Christmas 2002 I've been wondering what a good name for a holiday episode of Firefly would have been. A Very Reaver Christmas, anyone? That's the title a Firefly fan named TinEarTom came up with over on Joss Whedon's website whedonesque.com/

That's all in the Wikipedia entry under 'Format': "During filming of the pilot episode, Whedon was still arguing with Fox that the show should be displayed in widescreen format. Consequently, he purposely filmed scenes with actors on the extreme edge of both sides so that they could only be shown in widescreen.[10] This led to a few scenes on the DVD (and later Blu-ray) where objects that should be visible (such as the ship's yoke) are not since they would not have been needed in a non-widescreen format. However, the pilot was rejected by the Fox executives, who felt that it lacked action and that the captain was too "dour".[12] They also disliked a scene in which the crew backed down to a crime boss, since the scene implied the crew was "being nothing".[10] Thus, Fox told Whedon on a Friday afternoon that he had to submit a new pilot script on Monday morning or the show would not be picked up.[12] Whedon and Tim Minear closeted themselves for the weekend to write what became the new pilot, "The Train Job".[12] At the direction of Fox, they added "larger than life" characters[12][13] such as the henchman "Crow", and the "hands of blue" men, who also introduced an X-Files-type ending.[13]" Several other episodes were aired out of order as well, and at least three never aired. In fact, the two-hour pilot episode, titled "Serenity" was the very last episode aired. It's the one that sets up the show and introduces the characters. It makes a big difference if you see this one first.

Will do... Oh and... Attention all Browncoats!I've actually found out that there is a Firefly marathon on July 4th on the Science channel! They're airing the whole first season and I'm recording it! Anyone up to recording the episodes that day and planning a syncrowatch after the 4th?

That sounds like fun, because I don't think I could do it all in one day. By the way, I checked and they ARE running all of the episodes and in the proper order during that marathon.
Hulu also has 5 episodes per week available to watch online for free, and right now that includes the first two episodes.

Yay! And does Hulu use captions? If not, I'd have to wait until I get those episodes recorded.

They sure do, for this show. I just checked it out and it works great. You'll see a little CC to the lower right of the screen.

Firefly fans, being who they are, I see have already come up with a Reaver Christmas song. Author Citizen explains: "Once a year the Reavers gather to sing Christmas songs and roast humans by the fire." A Reaver Christmas CarolHumans roasting on an open fire, Jack is chewing on your nose, Screams of terror echoing from the choir, And folks dressed up in Human cloths. Everybody knows a Human and some mistletoe, Help to make this season bright. Tiny Reaver tots with their sharpened knives, Won’t find it hard to eat tonight. They know that Santa’s on his way; He’s loaded with lots of toy so he can’t runaway. And every mother’s gonna run and hide, When they see bits of reindeer fly! And so we’re offering this simple phrase, To Humans from one to ninety-two, Although its been said many times, many ways, We want too eat you too www.fireflyfans.net/bluesun.aspx?bid=6577

Sure, but I don't know how long I'll last. Have to get up early for work in the morning. Headed over to Hulu now.
And we can continue this in the synchro watch area of the board.

I still have the theme song stuck in my head... not that I'm complaining... Fox made a stupid move in canceling Firefly...
