Who is Commander Donatra? Romulan military. Aided The Enterprise in a battle against a mad clone of Captain Picard. Oh, I see... my favorite character in that series is Deanna Troi.

It sounds like a fun series for a Trekkie to read!

I am! Dad and I sometimes record either the original series or next generation so we can watch the show together. It's one of the only good times I have with my father only. It's kinda nice. And he does pretty neat impersonations. He's so good at those, he could have been the next Robin Williams had he chosen to be an actor.

who in here is a second generation trekkie like me? just wondering! Trekker... Thank you. Gene Roddenberry created the series, and his term was always "trekker", not trekkie. Ooooh, Timmy!! What did you think of Dina Meyer's performance in Nemisis? I thought she was awesome. She was even more awesome in Starship Troopers.

I'm an original Trekker who saw the first series when it was broadcast, and have followed all of them along the way. Love what J. J. Abrams did with the reboot and can't wait to see what Star Trek 2 is like. After you mentioned Dina Meyer, Aeryn, I had to look her up. Little did I know that she was my favorite character in Starship Troopers, Dizzy, but also a Romulan commander in Star Trek Nemesis, and Bat-Girl in Birds of Prey. That, to me, is the mark of a real actor, that I could have seen her in so many different roles and not realized it was the same person.

When it was announced that a new Star Trek series was coming out (TNG), I was one of the people who screamed, "No!! How dare you!" But it turned out to be awesome. Except for the first season. Most trekkers know to avoid any episode where Riker is clean shaven. Loved Data. (Even though Brent Spiner is a real asshole, and very full of himself) And Picard!!! Patrick Stewart is a lovely man. Dina is a wonder. I cried when Dizzy died in Starship Troopers....loved Drill Sargent Zim, and the Tanker Bug!!!

TNG and the Original were the two best series in my opinion. Although, I felt the first season was a bit too awkward compared to the later seasons.

I was such a hold-out that I didn't even watch the first season of TNG till it was half over. I thought 'how could they ever pay justice to what went before?" But luckily I was wrong, and the Great Bird of the Galaxy was still alive to guide things to the next level. I finally watched it and I loved it. What the hell did I know, huh?

These are the series I have on DVD for Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS), The Animated Series, The Next Generation (TNG), Deep Space Nine (DS9), Voyager, and last but not least Enterprise, plus all I have all of the movies as well! I also recently bought a Scene it-Star Trek edition game, it looks fun too!
I have a few of the books but haven't read any yet but plan to!
My dad was good at mimicking Kirk's voice especially in the episode "A piece of the action" here is the trailer for the episode:
and one of my favorites was "the city on the edge of forever" here is the trailer for my favorite episode:
my dad recorded the series and we watched them on Sunday mornings since we were going to church on Saturdays at the time but later when we went to church on Sunday, I would get out the DVDs of the movies and we would watch them especially the Voyage Home in the afternoons.
*sigh* I just love Star Trek!

One really great episode that is even better because there is a book about how the episode developed into what it became. It was a team effort where the team actually made it better -- not a elephant designed by a committee. "The Trouble with Tribbles."

I was just typing a long post and accidentally shut the window and lost it! I'll try again.
"City on the edge of Tomorrow" was based upon a script submitted by the Science Fiction great Harlan Ellison (or as he referred to the genre "SF" -- "scifi" was a word that he condemned! He usually substituted the name "Cordwainer Bird" for the writing credited on any project in which he didn't approve of what was done with it ... and he hated what was done with his "Star Trek" script ... and Gene Roddenberry refused to allow him to take his name off it. To be fair, The in house writers had to make sure that any script conformed to the continuity of the series (thus the integrity that "Smallville" didn't have). But Ellison's attitude was that you don't mess with the work of a genius. Too bad, but work on a property you don't own the rights to means compromise. If you can't compromise, don't participate.

From IMDB on Harlan Ellison:
"He is famous for his hot temper and outspoken nature, which has led to more then his share of high-profile feuds. The most famous of them was with "Star Trek" (1966) creator Gene Roddenberry, who had Ellison's famous television script ("City on the Edge of Forever") heavily rewritten to fit with Roddenberry's more utopian ideas of the future. Roddenberry would not allow him to put his pseudonym "Cordwainer Bird" on the project. To add insult to injury, for the rest of his life Roddenberry took credit for having "saved" the story, which is consistently ranked as the best of the series by critics and fans and as one of TV's 100 greatest moments by "TV Guide" (July 1, 1995).
Cordwainer Bird means "one who makes shoes for birds".
Ellison's pseudonym "Cordwainer Bird" is reserved for works where he considers that the producers have so tampered with the integrity of his original story that he wants the whole world to know it. Hence, if you see something credited to "Cordwainer Bird", you know that Ellison is so angry at his treatment that he's going to force the producers to publicly acknowledge the fact (via the credits) that he considers them rather worse than fools. It is also a reference to the great science-fiction writer Cordwainer Smith. "Cordwainer Smith", in turn, was the pseudonym of Dr. Paul Myron Anthony Linebarger (1913-1966), a professor of Asiatic politics, expert on psychological warfare, and advisor to President Kennedy.
He won one of his many Hugo Awards and one of his four Writer's Guild awards for best teleplay for the orginal "Star Trek" (1966) episode (#1.28) "The City On the Edge of Forever"."
