And what about Harold and his break down mowing the lawn and frannie that she can overcome her put off feelings towards Harold just so she could comfort him We are seeing more growth of these characters here Harold can actually feel the grief of losing his parents and he was wrong I think sure writers are supposed to be able to say how it feels but I think that is one of the biggest obstacles for any writer or aspiring writer because the feeling is everything along with description but mainly its the feeling part of anything you want to write about that is hardest you can describe everything down to the finest detail but if you cant write about the feel of even one thing well then you are doomed as a writer So sure writers should be able to say how it feels but that is the hardest part so Harold should have given himself some slack and realized that is the hardest part And frannie with the way she comforted Harold perhaps maybe they can be friends afterall I thought the initial scene of Harold mowing the lawn in his swimsuit was pretty funny. I think after the breakdown we and Frannie have a lot more sympathy for him. Here's what Hemingway said about writing: "You see I'm trying in all my stories to get the feeling of the actual life across-not to just depict life-or criticize it-but to actually make it alive. So that when you have read something by me you actually experience the thing." He also said that if you were successful, the written description should feel more true than a real life event.

Lol yay! Perhaps ill make us a thread of our favored sayings from our book club And you know what I just realized I had made a note earlier during my reading how king uses the phrase screaming like a banshee in one of the chapters ill find the exact location later as I cant remember exactly where I read it and that phrase was in our last novel a prayer for Owen meany and it hit me that on the front cover of my copy of a prayer for Owen meany there was a review from Stephen king and I just thought how fitting it was to now be reading one of Stephen kings novels and not only that but both novels deal with issues involving God

And you know there are few writers that can make you feel that more than a lived moment but for the ones that do the writing is so memorable that I often memorize those parts that make me feel like that just so I can have it always

You know I thought it was funny too the initial scene of Harold and the mower I was glad king mixed it up and gave us something humorous in the mix of all this sadness and loss we are reading about in our recent chapters

Shows that we ourselves may be on a bit of a journey with the book club that is guided by things we don't yet realize. By the way, did you catch this line in chapter 35? "A light sweat broke on his body. Overhead a bird called raucously and he jumped. You're being stupid, he told himself. Kid's stuff, that's what this is. All you have to do is stay on the pedestrian catwalk and in no time at all you'll be -- strangled by the walking dead." Of course, this was written way before the success of the tv series and novels by that title, and 'the walking dead' wasn't a new term when he used it even, but it still felt kinda cool to see it there. I love that King had Larry looking around in the tunnel and begin to think about the bodies coming back to life, as if he might be in a zombie movie.

Aah yea its very strange that you mention that there was something of that sort that linked to the waalking dead show in the earlier chapters and I just smiled to myself I will see if i can find it again
And it does seem cool like you said. Whenever I see connections in things like that I always take it as fates way of telling me from time to time I'm right where I should be

I also think it was fitting that Larry had to go through the tunnel alone after being unkind to Rita. He deserved it.
In addition to Larry and Rita, we now have Frannie and Harold talking about beginning a trip--to Vermont in their case.

And Randall Flagg is headed somewhere too, after getting Christopher Bradenton to secure him a car.

He said 'South,' which sounds appropriate, if you think of south as 'down' and north as 'up.'
South could be taken as an allusion to hell, I think.

Poor nick always being accosted by ray I'm glad that part is over with at least! But also it must be so hard on nick to be in a place with no lights perhaps that's why we see that as a primary concern in nicks chapters. And seemingly as a side note in the others

This guy has some pretty cool concept art for The Stand characters and places. I like the song he chose, too.

I liked Nadine too. Didn't much care for Frannie and Stu. I remember that in the miniseries Rita and she were combined into one character, and Nadine was played by Laura San Giacomo.

I was wondering about that. It was so weird for me to see her as Nadine because I used to watch just shoot me and the characters she played were so contrary to each other

I was wondering if we could move the meeting to Sunday night at 8pm EST for this week. I will be busy on Saturday and I really don't want to miss another Book Club meeting.
