Nine Bucks
SEASON 3, EPISODE 1 • PREMIERE 9/25/18, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Randall, Kate and Kevin find themselves on new paths as they each celebrate their 38th birthday. I moved this from the other thread because I forgot to notice there were threads for each season. I can now feel free to watch the others and I am tempted. Notice I said tempted. Some people on the WB and CW boards said the only way they could watch "Smallville" was to record it and skip over the Lana scenes. I felt that way about pretty much everything other than Jack and Rebecca meeting, which is what I wanted. And I wasn't disappointed. I want to see more. I know they will get back together despite the way it ended. Because otherwise there is no series. I thought prices seemed low and then I remembered this is during the Vietnam War. I'm not clear on the connection with the Steelers player. I thought I would like Kate. Let me put it this way. If my liking this show depends on liking Kate and Randall, that has as much chance of happening as Kate having a baby the usual way at this point. I was happy the doctor changed her mind, and my mind can certainly be changed. I am curious now about Randall's adopting a child. I can't stand Randall's wife. Kevin doesn't look like Batman. He looks like Green Arrow! I did like the scene with him and Randall's kids, so maybe Kevin has a chance of being included among my favorite characters. At this point the whole show takes a real effort to watch. Like "The 100" or "Riverdale". And at least "Riverdale" has characters I like. I wondered why Kate and Randall had separate parties. I'm thinking I must have known from somewhere that Randall happened to be born in the same hospital as the others. Obviously it was on the same day.

A Philadelphia Story
SEASON 3, EPISODE 2 • NEW 10/2/18, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
The Pearsons gather to support Kevin at his movie premiere; the teenage Big Three make college decisions. I was disappointed they didn't continue the story of how Jack and Rebecca met. But I did get to see how William and ChiChi met and I'm liking their story. I like watching Randall try to solve the community center's problems. And now we have two Kates for me to dislike. Now we see how she ended up with a weight problem. Her mom tried to get her to eat right, but she didn't try hard enough, I guess. Rebecca had a reason to be bitter but I didn't have to like watching it. At least she had great hair. Randall appeared to be getting along better. It's a shame he decided not to go to Howard. Or maybe that will change. I wonder if he would have had a better career? Actually, all I know is he can afford to buy his father' apartment building and his wife is a professional of some kind.

Kevin is a movie star. They really liked his work. On the other hand, he knows little about what Jack did.
I'm not clear on who he found from Jack's unit. Is that Randall's councilman?
There was way too much going back and forth and even a dream with multiple Kates. I did like seeing the Kates interact and I particularly liked seeing the teenage Kate say "I can see that" but not caring.
And of course they had to scare us with complications for Kate.
I didn't want Randall's wife to get fired because she appears to care about what must have been a good job. Randall doesn't need the additional frustration.
My favorite part was seeing the interaction between Rebecca and Jack resume, even when Rebecca was still with the other guy. I liked seeing them together but we know that can't happen. And I liked the music when Rebecca saw how a good wife is supposed to be. But I liked how she decided no, that's not how a wife is supposed to be. When I was a teenager around that time, they had an experiment where we all tried the different classes, meaning guys in "home ec" for several weeks along with the girls, and girls in "shop" with the guys for several weeks.

Vietnam
SEASON 3, EPISODE 4 • NEW 10/16/18, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
A young Jack makes a decision that will impact the course of his life. Interesting episode. I wish there were more like this. Except it kept going back in time. It looked like they were going to have one story in one era. My first thought about Superman references was that Jack's brother looked like Clark. Turned out that was the point. Their father was so much nicer when the kids were younger. I enjoyed watching the events surrounding the birth.

One episode was skipped. Toby was dealing with depression and I suppose it was interesting to see the background. I was relieved we didn't have to deal with too much og it.
Kevin visited a veteran and that was enjoyable, sort of. Not much new information.
And Kevin encountered racism, so we naturally had to see Randall deal with it. He looks more like an Urkel these days. Meanwhile, the councilman not being responsive is loved by these people and they're telling him he has no business there. I'm concerned about his wife's job prospects.
Jack's friend is taking care of Rebecca.
Kate has inherited Rebecca's talent. Actually, Rebecca is amazing. But we knew her as a singer first.

I've got to watch these in order.
I forgot to mention the Emmys. Chris nominated but not Chrissy?
But three more acting nominations too. No wins. "SNL" may have gotten the only wins by the Big Four given out on the air.

Kamsahamnida
SEASON 3, EPISODE 6 • NEW 10/30/18, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Struggling with Toby's depression, Kate seeks Rebecca's advice; Randall makes time for Kevin, who obsesses about Jack's past. So Randall has found a strategy for winning in that district. His opponent did a really nice thing, even if it worked against him. Rebecca from 2018 has a really cute hairstyle. I felt bad for the girls selling cookies, but Beth did a really nice thing later. I hope Randall can afford to actually pay her. It's not a pity job because she can really help him. I liked the storyline when they were kids. I would like to see more of how the couple met.

Forgot a few details. Randall compared himself to Urkel but he wasn't wearing glasses back then.
Kevin's girlfriend has a right to her privacy. Shame on him for showing up like that.
And I can't remember what else. I'm tired.

Oh, yeah. Rebecca calls her 38-year-old daughter "Bug".
Kevin and his girlfriend were served what looked like the food others didn't eat dumped into water. She's adventurous but pays for that.
I was disappointed when Rebecca put on those pajamas. They looked too girly to be the ones Jack's uncle wore. Then she took them off and NO! Mandy Moore is a good girl! She has to be married first!
The music was so good before they arrived at the mansion.
I'm glad Jack can take care of his brother. That rule about brothers shouldn't apply in their case.
It's good that Jack visited the soldier's parents and took responsibility but when they showed it, I don't know what Jack could have done.

I don't get why this show is described as a dramedy. It's not funny enough to be anything other than a straight drama.
And Thanksgiving was depressing. I don't get why the name of the episode included "six Thanksgivings" because I counted five. Unless the soup kitchen was separate from Randall's dinner at home.
Rebecca looks so good. I guess it's easier on the makeup people to pretend she aged well.
Miguel's family was so mean to Rebecca.
Randall's campaign manager is not being very nice. I'm starting to think Randall hired Beth out of pity because none of her abilities are being put to good use. Maybe it's time to replace the campaign manager.
I liked seeing Jack help those people when his brother just thought they'd fight for the other side.
I liked teenage Randall's college essay.

The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning
SEASON 3, EPISODE 9 • NEW 11/27/18, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Kevin arrives at the ville where his father served; Kate pursues a new opportunity; Randall debates Councilman Solomon Brown; in the past, Jack struggles to get through to his brother. I guess we'll find out what happened to Jack's brother. I did enjoy seeing Kevin make progress but it wasn't much. I feel bad for Kate but now she can finish college. Hopefully. That looks like a good job for her. Sterling K showed why he gets nominated for Emmys. And Beth is no longer officially in the campaign. It's too bad Randall can't win but he made an impact. I'm confused. If I haven't said he, Randall compared himself to Urkel when he was a teen. He didn't even wear glasses. He does now. Rebecca is cute but there's no way she's supposed to be 70.

The Last Seven Weeks
SEASON 3, EPISODE 10 • NEW 1/15/19, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Randall's campaign comes to a close; Kevin meets someone from Zoe's past; Kate and Toby get ready for the baby. Now we have an interesting mystery. What happened to Jack's brother? I liked the scene with Jack and Randall in Washington, and how Randall corrected Jack. The pastor did a good job at the church service, though endorsing a candidate is probably not a good idea in that situation. He said good things about both men. And he did a good thing New Year's Eve. I don't know what would have happened with Beth if he hadn't had a pie. I was disappointed Toby didn't get his toys back but he got the next best thing. Even better was what Kate received.

So....Jack was not perfect after all! What a shock! He turned his back on his beloved brother and told his wife and children their uncle was dead. I am glad the Big 3 want a relationship with their uncle. Rebecca is losing faith in who she thought Jack was. And I'm back to watching the episodes I would have if the TiVo disaster didn't happen. I never expected Jack to be perfect because he was Jess. At the same time, was starting to like him, but he did a terrible thing. The incident in Vietnam was an accident but Jack's brother was careless using those grenades like that. I did enjoy watching them trying to have a relationship with their uncle. He said he once had a house so he must have had a job. What does he do for money now? The trailer didn't change at all in 20 years. So sad for him to learn Jack had been gone 20 years.

Songbird Road: Part Two
SEASON 3, EPISODE 12 • NEW 2/12/19, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Kevin attempts to help Nicky; Randall and Kate reflect on differing memories of their childhood. This was a good episode. I liked the scenes with the kids but I think Kate must have shrunk. If the kids were said to be 11 years old, Kate could have been a basketball star. I don't think she's that tall now. Jack was right to be mad but he changed his attitude and had fun. I was surprised the house looked enough like it did before for Kate to say this happened here, and this happened here. I don't know how much was left after the fire but there couldn't have been much. It was hard to watch Nick reject Kevin's attempts to help him but Kevin was able to do some things for him and that was nice. Rebecca came a long way. It's a shame Kevin took a drink. I really liked Kevin and his mom getting to see the baseball player.

Our Little Island Girl
SEASON 3, EPISODE 13 • NEW 2/19/19, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Beth's trip home to care for her mother sparks an unexpected realization. An entire episode devoted to Beth. Beth's mom didn't look like someone who would be willing to show up at school being vulnerable. Still, she was just as rough while walking with a walker. And she didn't need a walker at home. And she wondered why those girls even needed to show up. I liked seeing how Beth learned dance and was surprised she wasn't the one who quit after she said she would because of her father. I liked her father, who was J'onn's father on "Supergirl". I was amazed when Beth's mom admitted she married a man like him because of his easygoing attitude. Beth's mom, on the other hand, reminded me too much of Claire on "The Cosby Show". I preferred Cosby's wife on the show where he was a bitter retired airline employee. I liked Beth's mom better in the scenes where she wasn't quite so demanding. So that's how Randall met Beth?

The Graduates
SEASON 3, EPISODE 14 • NEW 3/5/19, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Kevin keeps a secret from Zoe; Randall gets unexpected news about Deja; in the past, the Big Three graduate from high school. One good thing about this series is the way it goes back and forth so when we have a sad even tin the present or somewhere in the past, we can go to a happy time just like that. Rebecca at Randall's graduation was almost too much for me. I was so relieved Kate sat down to watch those videotapes because the first thing I thought of when they went shopping for the camera was whether those survived the fire. Kevin's drinking caused more problems than I expected but there was plenty to enjoy about the episode. Randall made Deja's teacher cry! I did like how he and the girl talked afterward. How everyone can get on a plane and fly to see Kate is amazing. I have one question for the makeup people: why does Rebecca look older at Randall's graduation than at Kate's? They obviously skipped Kate's entire time at that college. That might have been interesting.

Seeing Kate have a baby looks like it will be entertaining. I'm still waiting for the first episode to air again so I can see them all in order. That was a 100% stress filled/serious episode. Just a heads up so you do not be disappointed if you ever see the show. I know what to be prepared for this Sunday.

I almost didn't see this. Friday night as I started to watch "Magnum PI" they said "Previously on Hawaii Five-0 …"
Uh-oh. There was going to be a crossover. I didn't even know there was going to be a new episode, and I thought somehow I would know before the crossover.
So I started watching "Hawaii Five-0" yesterday. No dialogue, so I had to contact CBS and wait. So I had time to watch this episode after all.
So, it wasn't as bad as I had feared, but there were no flashbacks for the first time in an episode I watched, which would have helped. I adjusted really well to the seriousness.
Although I could have done without Randall and Beth arguing. Or Randall and Kevin arguing, but I can take Kevin more easily. Randall is my favorite character in the present day.
While it was a serious episode they managed to include some humor, although the foods not helped by chocolate and ranch didn't do anything for me, and I don't like ranch. My favorite funny moment was Randall's commentary about the woman with the bag of chips.
I agree with Rebecca about outlets looking like surprised faces. I've felt that way for years.
I was really worried with all the yelling that the nurses were going to have enough. Randall was right to thank them for putting up with the family. Rebecca, however, had quite enough.
And they didn't show respect for Miguel. He was patient, but there was a limit.
Did they ever say who the cute blonde was? Although she did say she was supposed to take photos.
I'm wondering if the baby was real or animatronic. It would probably be too hard to find a real baby like that and do what they did.

I really enjoyed the school dance and I liked the song Rebecca may have requested because Jack never went to any dances. In 2018, sure, but where could someone have gotten that on such short notice?
I'm glad Toby is having a hard time because so am I. Kate can handle anything but some of us would rather see this situation be more of a challenge. It's sort of like I'm made to feel guilty if seeing that is hard for me.
I have no answers for Randall and Beth. Both had work-related events and both events were important. Randall was too hard on her but Beth was too hard on him.
Charlotte is smaller but probably big enough that city council should have full-time pay, not full-time work with part-time pay. There, even the mayor has to have a real job in addition to the other duties.
I'm glad Kevin is working on his situation and I liked seeing him with his ex.

I saw an article in The Charlotte Observer that referred to Mandy Moore being better known for this show than her singing career, though she is one of those with a big concert coming up. The article referred to her old age makeup, but I have yet to see that.

I really enjoyed the flashbacks of how Randall and Beth met and ended up being married. We knew no matter what the obstacles it was going to happen.
I do wish we had seen more about the fight between Jack and Rebecca. Not that I want to see them fight but there should have been more.
I want Randall's shirt from when he proposed!
How in the world could they afford a house that big when they first got married? I know they had high-powered careers but you don't start out making what they were surely making?
I saw a movie over the weekend (which I also mention in the MacGyver thread) where a girl named Kate had a sister with an imaginary friend Toby. Only he didn't turn out to be so imaginary, and the ending was quite disturbing.

Her
SEASON 3, EPISODE 18 • FINALE 4/2/19, 9:00 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC
Rebecca helps Kate and Toby care for baby Jack; Zoe and Kevin look after Tess and Annie; Randall and Beth consider how to move forward. I'm now finished with this season. Next week I do episode 3 of Season 4 and I'm through watching online. On "Fresh Off the Boat" Eddie got a pretty girl to help Evan study. Her biggest priority, other than working in her parent's motel, was the next Mandy Moore concert. Now back then that would have been a bigger deal. Now we DO get to see Mandy in old age makeup. I was confused, thinking I was once again seeing Randall when he was younger. I felt bad for Rebecca but we needed to see what would happen if Jack had to take care of the kids by himself. And she seems to have recovered nicely. Poor Kate having to call for the nurse, when we knew what Rebecca did, and Rebecca did it. Well, at least young Jack is home. I was so glad Randall's adopted daughter did what she did. Maybe things will be all right. I felt sorry for Beth when she was told the additional class would be easy. Beth wants young people who are passionate and might make a career of dance. That's not who she's teaching. Moving to Philly may be the best solution. Kevin wants kids and he's good with them. This is not going to work.
