School here seems like it's going to be pretty normal. Everyone has to wear a mask all day. Not sure what they are going to do about lunch time. There really is no way to keep the keeps 6 ft apart at all times, there are too many kids and not enough teachers and classrooms. There is also the option of staying home and doing remote learning similar to what was done at the end of the school year, but hopefully will be better this time. They have the option of switching to one or the other options at each quarter. My kids have decided that they are willing to wear masks at school. They can decide at the end of the first term if they'd like to change or not. All the actual "online" schools seem to be full, which is too bad, that would have been a good option for Emily I think. We'll see how everything goes.

We were supposed to be in Hawaii this week, but I'm sort of glad we aren't. I'm still behind on work! We had a week with Kevin's dad here when I got very little done, and then the next week we were on vacation at Lake Powell and the next week I had a few days at home before going to Kevin's race. I worked a bunch last week, but I'm still behind. I hate being behind. I need to make sure and get caught up because I'm hoping to go visit my family in Nebraska next week and I don't want to be stressed out because I'm still behind.
How is everyone doing?

It is! The summer has gone by ridiculously fast. School is going to be back before you know it and then I can hear all about how much my kids hate wearing masks every day. haha

Took a breather from packing and am reading and writing more. That sounds like a great break! I just finished reading Jane Austen's 11 chapters of Sanditon. I'm so sad she never finished, the story was barely even getting started.

I thought I'd get a lot of reading done and even catch up on some TV shows, but all I've felt like doing is play on my phone. The only time I read is on the treadmill, which doesn't happen all that often either.

Farewell Melanie Wilkes! What a long, full life she lived. Has anybody seen "The Heiress"? She won Best Actress for that. A great movie!

We had a very quick but successful trip to Nebraska. Got to see all the family and say hi. The weather was fantastic! The temperature and humidity were lower than normal so it was a very pleasant visit.
I got to see my 6 year old nephew play a baseball game, which was the cutest thing ever. I also got to meet my newest niece who was born in January. She's grown up in quarantine so she doesn't really like new people, but she would smile all day long when you played with her as long as mom was holding her.
I'm glad to be home and I can't believe that school starts in 2.5 weeks. I'm going to miss having my kiddos at home. It's been a long time since I was home alone all day.
How is everyone?

Glad you had a good trip and are safe and sound. Hope folks are good.
So the kids will go back to a classroom. How is that going to work? Since so many of us are working from home, it seems odd to send the kids off to school.
I haven’t been doing much that would interest anyone. I have been watching old episodes of Psych that I hadn’t seen. Cute show, no stress to brain. Can’t believe I said that.

We haven't gotten that much information on how it will work with them going back other than they will have to wear masks and social distance. haha

You’re sweet. The kids must have been good company.
What grades are they in now?
It will be interesting to see how going back to classrooms works out.

All in different schools again this year. 11th in high school, 9th in junior high and 7th in middle school. They switched the system around this year. We now have K-5 in all elementary schools and instead of 2 Jr Highs with 7-9, we have one that is a middle school for ALL 6th and 7th graders and then a Jr High for ALL 8th and 9th graders. High school is 10-12. Emily (11) and Tyler (9) can sort of walk to school together, as their schools are right next to each other (and basically across the street from our house) but they probably won't want anything to do with each other. haha Owen (7) will be taken to school and picked up (probably by Emily) every day. He's a little over a mile away, which the other kids always walked, but without having anyone to walk with, Kevin doesn't want him walking alone, so he gets picked up. The older 2 aren't very happy about it.

Wow it takes a lot of coordination in your end. Emily can drive, right? She should appreciate the extra drive time!!
I can’t believe how old they are. We have been chatting along time. Are they excited about the change? Going back to class, that is.
I’m doing absolutely nothing worth even talking about. I need to exercise a bit more. I’m sitting too much. I’m finding motivation difficult.

Tyler who is 14 was just a baby when we starting chatting about Gilmore Girls. They are excited about getting to see their friends on a regular basis, but they aren't excited about school in general or having to wear masks. We'll see if they change their minds and decide they want to come back home to do school online. They really HATE wearing masks, but they really miss their friends. I've exercised some over the summer when I usually just give it up completely til school starts again. Hopefully it will be more regular with school starting again.

Library stories!
Two of the county libraries I go to STILL aren't open. The college library near me now has hours (though the sign saying by appointment only was still up) as the students return and classes start this week. But only students, faculty and staff are allowed.
Two two-year college libraries aren't open. There's no place I can see two of the actual newspapers.
One four-year college library won't open to the public until next year. There's no place I can look at one of the magazines.

Saw a great movie last weekend.... "The Last Movie Star" starring Burt Reynolds and Ariel Winter from "Modern Family".
It was released three months before Burt Reynolds passed away, and he plays an aging movie star as he goes to accept a film award in Nashville; all ego and booze as he faces the truth about himself and his career.
Very good and bittersweet! Netflix and Amazon.

I'm sure I posted somewhere that looking at newspapers online takes a lot longer. I have much less "extra time" on weekends than I used to and it's almost as bad during the week.

New library story!
At my county library it has been the rule for several weeks that people are limited to an hour of computer time. For the first few weeks after I came back I could spend all the time I wanted, though there's little advantage to doing anything there. It just gets me out of the house.
But a man had to have his time extended because when he went to Gmail, he was in someone else's, and one of the people who worked there tried from six feet away to help him sign out. The usual way wasn't working. They haven't been sitting at our computers but she had to after he moved away. It wasn't fair for him to lose time to all that so he got an extension.
