Do they make ads that are only meant to be shown during that?
No expert here, but I think that because the viewership is so high and the ad space is so expensive, they usually put a lot more effort in, and the result is much more entertaining than your usual fare. Not sure if it is true, but I read that the ad which came closest to exclusive status was Apple's 1984 ad:

This is true. A 30-second ad on this year's SuperBowl will set you back $3.5 million dollars for one airing. That's because viewership is so high, not just on a national basis, but internationally as well.
When I was working on my mass communications degree I'd record the game, and because I'm not a football fan, I'd fast forward through the game to get to the ads, so I could discuss them in class the next day.

I caught an hour long sneak peek of the commercials. They just showed part of the commercial not the entire thing. The Bud Light commercial and the E*TRADE commercial with the new E baby will be a hit.
During the Super Bowl the commercials are shown full length and later on they are shortened for television shows.
Timmy, I watch for both the game and the ads. Family tradition.

It's an institution in itself then, Superbowl commercials. Who'd have thought...
Shame on you for not watching the game!
I'm not a sports fan, at least when it comes to televised sports. I find it incredibly boring. Not to say that I don't find going to an occasional live sporting event, like a baseball game, fun. I do. But I don't get attached to teams at all any more.
And mind you, I live in a state where Alabama/Auburn football is like a religion.
By the way, the best time to go shopping in Baton Rouge is when an LSU game is being televised.
Much better that I can just watch the ads on the internet now.
And I've always LOVED the Puppy Bowl.

That game was a nightmare. I bet big against the safety. And for a first score td. Stupid intentional grounding call was bs! Cost me a lot of money its a good thing that giants player didn't down the ball on the 1 yard line. That would have compounded my losses so bad, id be sleeping on a park bench by now...

Aw, I agree intentional grounding was rather far fetched. Did make a weird start to the game though.
The last touchdown oozes of weirdness.
I wonder if he hadn't scored, it would make them change the rules somehow. it's definately a loophole, but on the other hand "use any strategy to win" works in my book, even if it's turning the world upside down.
Still the weirdest winning touchdown I've seen so far.
Glad you're not on a park bench! Too damn cold for that!
I watched the commercials, but I missed part of the one with Seinfeld because they had just come back from a break and I didn't expect another commercial so soon. Then I realized the crowd noise and commentary was gone.
I went on Facebook at the library and several people I went to high school with were talking about one of the coaches. Apparently I went to high school with him.
