I've read several remarks about Rachel Miner's bloated face, which we all saw on the last episode.

And though there's been no official statement about it, I'm pretty sure she's having some problems with her kidneys...hence, the bloated face.

Whatever the facts turn out to be, let's all wish Rachel the very best.

I noticed her face also and realized something must be wrong. But she did a good job with the Meg role. She was professional and did not let her problems come through in the role.

More importantly, Aeryn, you're letting us know you have a heart. :heart:

As soon as I saw her face, I knew that she had to be on some kind of steroid treatment. I work for a hematology oncologist and we have a number of patients on steroids like prednisone and having cushingoid (swollen) features is a very common side effects. And when I was a teenager, I had suffered from an endocrine imbalance and was on steroids which gave me the exact same moon-face features that Rachel had.

It's really unfortunate that when people don't like a character, they often want to take it out on the actor/actress as well. Gen took a huge amount of shit over playing Ruby (and it got even worse when she and Jared got engaged). Jared took enormous amounts of hate from those who had issues with Sam (and Misha has as well, though not to as extreme a degree). Those who weren't happy with how Castiel's reintroduction was handled will take it out on whatever convenient targets they can find and since Rachel Miner is a easy choice. She's not a fan favorite the way Jensen is, so it's easy to rag on her.

I really hope that whatever is going with Rachel is relatively minor and she will recover quickly. I liked her portrayal of Meg and am looking forward to seeing her in the show again. It's ironic when you consider that Meg is one of the longest running supporting characters on this show to survive this long.

As far as I heard she is off the tretament again, am not 100% sure on that as it's hearsay.

So hopefully the swelling subsides, it takes a good bunch of personal strength to go on an international tv show, knowing you'll be object for some snide remarks.

I didn't know steroid treatments could bloat you up like that, I did think something was "off" as in it didn't look like your normal overweight kind of thing. She was a joy to watch as always though! Her scenes with Dean, him trying to make her behave and her overstepping mere seconds later...ha!

I always liked her portayal of Meg. Here's hoping she gets more return showings, she's awesome at being evil in the sexy kind of way, as Mark P makes you like the devil in spite of his utter evil demeanor.

He plays Lucifer scaringly well hehe.

I wasn't sure about this actress as the replacement for Meg when she first appeared, but she really does a great snarky, oily evil Meg. So now I like her!

Sorry to hear she's sick, hope whatever it is, it isn't something that can't be cured or managed. I think she makes a great Meg!

Aeryn I'm so glad you addressed this. I was wondering what was going on with her face. I knew it was a medical thing because her body is still as tiny as it has always been.

I have had to take prednisone for optic neuritis it's sucks big time. So does optic neuritis by the way. In fact I had it in my right eye for a month while I was sculpting fake Dean. It was a mild case and I didn't need Prednisone for this last attack thank goodness.

Prednisone messes with your ability to sleep, Bloats you, screws with your moods and can give you headaches. I was lucky it made me even more of an insomniac then I was before.

BTW being an insomniac is great for Supernatural Cons. Everyone else looks so tired. I went to bed after 2AM two nights in a row and got up at each morning at 6:30AM took a shower was refreshed and awake. No bags under my eyes or anything. I would say from Friday night until Monday morning I slept 13 hours or so. I was tired when I got back home. Sleep eight hours without my sleep pills.

Prednisone is not fun. When I took it they prescribed it as 6 pills, 5 pills, 4 pills 3 pills etc. Slowly decreasing to get me off it as soon as possible. and Swelling/Bloating is a very common side effect. My god mother was on in long term and had serious issues with her face swelling just like Rachel's face. In the final scene of the episode Rachel's hair is in a pony tail you can see how thin her neck is so she hasn't gained weight. I'm betting she was on prednisone long term to deal with liver issues. When I first saw her I thought maybe it was cancer. But Cancer is so common in my family it's where my mind goes first.

The slow grinding down of pill amount makes sense, body or mind can easily go into a state of heavy withdrawal otherwise.

Thanks for sharing Evil, you are right on the swelling not being overall on her, which is what had me thinking some kind of symptom too. Here's hoping whatever it is, it's something temporary.

Actually, it could be something as simple as having a bad tooth. For all of us that have had any wisdom teeth grow in (and then have it get infected) is a prime example of this.
Although i do know that some medications can cause this too so idk what to think. I don't really care though either cuz it's not my place.
