This week's episode: GARTH IS BACK TO HELP THE WINCHESTERS - Dean is surprised when he gets a call from Garth (guest star DJ Qualls) asking for the brothers' help on a case. Sam and Dean discover they are battling a Shojo, a Japanese creature sent to seek revenge on enemies. The worst part about fighting a Shojo? You can only see it when you're drunk.
Anyone else think Dean is gonna be really good at this one?

Oh yeah! I think Dean will be very good at this. The problem is Dean can drink most people under the table. How much liquor will it take for Dean to actually be drunk? If drunk means lack of control, it will take a lot. Question to anyone:

I have no hope for this episode I like the actor, DJ Qualls I just don't like the character of Garth. Hopefully he dies this episode so I don't have to see him again. Yup I said it Garth as a hunter would have died the first week on the job. It made no sense to me that Bobby would send someone so incompetent to work with Dean. Oh and bring back Frank!!! I miss that paranoid nut bag.

I'm sure it'll be amusing, but given how the major storylines have become little more than information dumps, all these standalone MOTW eps are killing the pacing of the season.

The episode was entertaining. Garth is good for humor, but he also has skills. Maybe his skills are overlooked sometimes because of his mannerisms. He's tricky and brave while keeping a positive attitude. And the man-hugs. Dean and Sam working together is always good. They are sharing things with each other, grudgingly maybe, but still that's a start. I actually cheered when I saw the father figure. Idgits! Great to hear that again.

If I could have given it higher than 10, I would have! Such GREAT brother moments, SO many laughs, and then the amazing shock of Bobby at the end! THIS is what I'm talking about! I feel like the Best of SPN, the show I remember falling in LOVE with is BACK!

It was a pretty good episode. Garth is a little annoying, though. Not a big DJ Qualls fan. And as a hunter, he looks like he weighs 90lbs soaking wet. Any monster worth its salt, (pun intended) would have crushed him long ago. He just didn't pull off the "Fed" with the girls at the restaurant, or the GI in th morgue. Sorry. He did, however, seem to pick up on the possible ghost Bobby more rapidly than Dean and Sam. Glad to see Sam and Dean mostly on the same page. Glad to see Dean still checking in on Sam's mental status. And Sam is his usual...."don't bug me, I'm fine" attitude. Both good and bad. Best part was when the Shojo finally got ganked. When that sword slid back across the floor to Dean, I KNEW it was Bobby. He DID speak Japanese, remember? And Dean seems to believe it's more true than just desire as well. Loved the ending. Too bad we have to wait until April 20 for the next new episode.

I liked this episode. It had a lot of humor in it, thanks to Garth.
I loved Garth’s line “you’ve been Garthed” and his walking away after burning the woman’s bones. I enjoyed Dean and Sam’s reaction to watching Garth guzzle down that beer all at once, as well as Dean’s “party on Garth” line. I also found Sam’s smirk to Dean cute after Sam got out of going to another crime scene and made Dean go with Garth alone.
I found the sock puppet, Mr. Fizzles that Garth used to get Tess talking, to be hilarious. I liked Dean’s expressions when it actually was working. Garth coming in with the taser was funny. I wasn’t expecting that, so when the guy stopped moving and fell over, for a split second, I was thinking the monster was there and had killed him.
I was pleasantly surprised by Sam’s confession about trying to contact Bobby. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting that from him. I found it cool that the sword moved back towards Dean during the fight. I found it sad when afterwards when Dean was “alone”, he wanted a sign that it was Bobby, but didn’t get one, and also that Sam witnessed this.
Honestly, I don’t have an issue with Sam and Dean’s differing opinion on about Bobby being around. Despite what they do and see every day, I completely understand Sam’s stance. Especially since he tried the Oujia board and nothing happened. I don’t blame Dean for thinking that Bobby might be around. Between the disappearing beer, the name of the hunter that helped him with Sam, the EMF going off around the flask, and finally the sword, I get why Dean may believe he’s around.
OMG, seeing Bobby at the end totally shocked me. I was not expecting that at all. I don’t think Jim’s name was in the opening credits, so that made it an even bigger surprise to see him. When Dean went back into the hotel room to get the flask, I thought he was going to see Bobby. It seemed like Dean looked right at him. Well, at least we got two of Bobby’s favorite lines: “idjit” and “balls.” Garth hugging both brothers at the end was pretty cute.

This episode was OK, I did enjoy Sam and Dean in this one, especially the scene when they were drinking in the office, Jensen looked good!
I don't care for Garth he can go away now, and HATED the sock puppet, can we burn that? The last of the episode was the best part, Dean and Sam fighting in the brewery, the talk they had in the motel, and then we see Bobby. Bobby has always just been an OK character for me but I was glad to see him back in this one.

And how did taking one sip of her mother's screwdriver make the little girl drunk? Seems to me it would have been more believeable if she had downed the whole glassful. Plus, it sure didn't seem to take long for her to be drunk enough to see the ghost. Well, maybe they don't have to be officially drunk, just have any amount of alcohol in their body. I found that point to be a bit confusing. Also, the part with the girl and the older man seemed to stretch on forever. The sock puppet? Silly, IMO

Except for Bobby's ghost making an appearance, I was decidedly underwhelmed by this ep. Enjoyed the foray into Japanese folklore, but given how late in the season it is and the fact that there are several very big storylines that got really short shrift this season, throwing in another MOTW ep just didn't sit right with me. It was filler at a point in the season where there just isn't room for filler any longer.
I enjoy a character like Garth in small doses. This ep was Garth overload. I didn't find him endearing or charming and was really hoping that he'd get ganked by the shojo. Unfortunately that didn't happen, which means that we're likely to have this character inflicted on us again at a later date. I want to see a new cast of supporting characters since the show decided to kill off just about everyone, but Garth is no substitute for Jo, Ellen, Rufus, Bobby, etc.
Was pleased that the winged rat got minimal mention and that Dean was still concerned about Sam's sanity (which for me hinted that the other shoe hasn't dropped yet). Sam didn't exactly answer what is going on inside his head so we might yet still have some issues to contend with, even if the Lucifer hallucinations are a thing of the past.
It wasn't that it was a bad episode. It's just that, we've got some huge issues that need to be wrapped up and given how few episodes are left in the season, another MOTW that does nothing to move the bigger storylines along (with the sole exception of Bobby's ghost) just irritated me.
Agree with waggy that the sock puppet needs to be salted and burned ASAP.

Garth, while amusing is totally unbelievable as a hunter. He's about as competent as the fake Sam and Dean role players in The Real Ghostbusters. He's just playing as a hunter. I can't take him seriously. He's too cuddly and wimpy. Something should have eaten him by now. Get on with it, please. "Garth" yourself.
Glad to see the boys checking in on Cas and showing concern about his mental state.
Bobby's return wasn't surprising for me. I figured the writers were cheesey enough to take this route. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad he's back, but not as the Winchesters' pet ghost. I'm sure he's on his way to a resurrection, though.
