EXCLUSIVE: There is a change afoot at the helm of the CW’s veteran drama series Supernatural. Sera Gamble, who has been with the show since the beginning, serving as co-showrunner alongside Robert Singer for the past two seasons, will be stepping down. Word is that she opted not to renew her contract to focus on development. Jeremy Carver, executive producer/co-showrunner of Syfy’s Being Human, is joining Supernatural as an executive producer and will co-run the series with Singer next season. The CW has not made any formal renewal decisions yet but Supernatural is one of the network’s stronger ratings performers and is fully expected to return in the fall. This marks Carver’s return to Supernatural where he served as a co-producer during the 2009-10 season before leaving to co-run with his wife Anna Fricke Syfy’s Being Human, which the two wrote together based on the British show. UTA-repped Carver will keep his executive producer credit on Being Human, which will now be run solo by Fricke, making them a rare couple of writer-producers showrunning two series at the same time. Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who stepped down as the day-to-day showrunner after the show’s sixth season in 2010 when Gamble and Singer took over, remains an executive consultant.

I'm rejoicing. After she killed Bobby I wanted her head on a stick. She can keep her head now that she's leaving. Bring on Season 8!!!!!

Holy Moley. I don't know how to feel. I didn't hate Sera or love her.
But Jeremy Carver has been a showrunner and wrote some of the best episodes of the series:
"Mystery Spot" "A Very Supernatural Christmas" "Death Takes A Holiday" "In the Beginning" "Changing Channels" "Point of No Return"
And ugh!! I got Biebered again!! Damn, I really need to pick picture of something.
So, much has changed since the fifth season. And I don't know how he'll take the show.

After 7.5 years living and breathing Supernatural, I don't blame Sera for wanting to move on and do something else. Good luck Sera, thanks for making season 6/7 loads better than season 4/5.

Cause we usually don't do that. *Looks at Yimhappy* Speaking of which, what should we do to people who don't respond to Biebering? What is the next step? Do we Richard Simmons them?

Amen to that, Cap. I wish her all the best, and I'll be very interested in seeing what show she does next. Not sure I like Carver coming back. Besides the Christmas episode, has he ever written an episode where the brothers are together?

Anyone who thinks season 6/7 are better than seasons 4/5 has serious, serious problems!! I've enjoyed many of the episodes Sera has written but think her direction of the show has been less than stellar. Hope she'll continue to contribute stories (if they're good), and I wish her good luck in her other endeavors.

This is great news to me! Jeremy Carver wrote my all time favorite episodes, Mystery Spot and A Very Supernatural Christmas. Things are looking up for a season 8. Yeah!
I do wish Sera well. She has/had been invested in this show since the beginning.

Ditto on seasons 4 and 5. I played season 4 DVDs so often I purchased a second set just in case the first set wears out. But I'm not obsessed.

Seasons 1-5 were the best! Seasons 6 and 7 seem to have lost some of the direction of the original show. I remember when Sera first took over as "show runner." I was excited because I figured that she had trained at Kripke's knee and would continue to produce episodes that would make all the fans happy. She even talked about the show returning to its roots (after several years of angels and the apocalypse), but that wasn't the case. I do enjoy her writing and in that capacity would love to see her pen some episodes in the future, but leave running the show to the experts, please. Sorry, Sera, but.....

I don't know what to think because I never really followed who was behind the show except of course for Kripke. As long as theres more Sam and Dean, and Sam POV, and not a lot of certain other characters getting more screentime then they deserve I'll be happy.

I also didn't like Bobby dying. I will hold out my opinion on the change until I see what Carver does I do miss Kripke.

Whoops lemongrover Sorry if you got it twice. I didn't see the first time. You're looking pretty cute with that Beiber avatar. I love the "Richard Simmons" upgrade idea.

it's prolly because... So... Gamble.... Awesome commentary Friday S7 got too painful to watch, so I quit for awhile. Cas' return & Sam's hellpain were resolved in a clusterfuck episode. We didn't even learn something new about Sam, Dean, or Cas. S7 wasn't all bad, some things were done right. But S7 was destroying my good memories of SPN. I don't even expect the old awesomeness. But it'd be great if Carver could at least make me feel better about the characters again.
