Yep, he wrote this song. Rod Stewart came along and made it a mega-hit, but that version doesn't have a tenth of the passion and feeling of the original. And if you listen carefully to the lyrics, there's something disturbing here that gets glossed over and lost in the Stewart version. Yes, it's a song about a romantic who doesn't know how to (or dare to) make contact on an individual level, but he's also stalking the girl he's singing about.
