Well is he? If so, what color do his eyes change to? They never have changed on the show. We know from Weekend at Bobby's he was alive and had a son. However, Castiel and Crowley were working together so maybe that was planted information to throw Bobby, Sam and Dean off of Crowley's trail. So Cas burned some bones, but they weren't Crowley's bones. So does Crowley have bones or maybe he is a witch and has just been alive this whole time. Maybe he is an angel hiding from heaven like Gabe was. What do you think is Crowley really a Demon?

That is an interesting question, but I've also noticed that the demons only "flipped" their eyes black when they wanted their victims or antagonists to know they were something other than human. So perhaps they don't have to show the black/yellow/red eyes...until they want to. Interesting query, ES. I hope some other posters have some ideas.

I always thought Crowley was a Demon. Than I went to the Burbank Con. Someone started their question with so Crowley is a demon and Mark Shepperd interrupted her and ask her how she knew Crowley was a demon. Has she ever since his eyes change. I never thought of that so cool that Crowley might not be a demon. He could have always been something more powerful. Crowley does know how to handle himself. BTW Lilith's eyes changed when she tried to make the deal with Sam in Monster in the end of the book. So why didn't Crowley's eye change when it made the deal with the Banker or Bobby? It's interesting to think about isn't it.

I guess, I, too, always thought Crowley was a demon because HE said he was a demon. Didn't Castiel say he was a demon? How about Meg? But the fact that his eyes have never "flipped" black/yellow/red is curious. Another question.....how exactly does a demon become the "King of Hell?" Isn't that a fallen angel's post? Or maybe that was just because Lucifer has been the controller of Hell since God threw him down there. Might be a job no one really wants! Hey, I just thought of something....maybe Crowley really is a demon....he was very concerned over Dean and Sam burning his bones when they found them in Scotland and I've also never seen someone try to kill him with the angel killing blade. So, I guess he is a demon. I vote he HAS to show us the black/yellow/red eyes though. Wouldn't it be quirky if he was actually the YED? Maybe that's why he seems to "like" messing with Dean and Sam so much!!!

Set up bones, a back story, and telling everyone you are a demon seems like a smart move to me. If Crowley has been hiding on Earth since Lucy fell, he could have been calling himself a Demon for a long time

True. But wouldn't he have been "outed" by the other angels long ago? It's a fun mystery to toy with. The plot thickens......

There's never any mention of his vessel either.

There's never any mention of his vessel either. Crowley's vessel was a New York literary agent. When Crowley asked Bobby to make a deal, they had this exchange. BOBBY You're Crowley? CROWLEY In the flesh --of a moderately successful Literary Agent out of New York.

This thread is already a bit old, but I was just rewatching "The Devil You Know" and started wondering whether Crowley is really what he claims to be. A few facts:
First, Crowley was King of the Crossroads and when Lucifer went back into the cage, he became King of Hell. After Crowley gave the colt to the boys, was able to hide from Lucifer, which shouldn't be as easy as he made it seem. We also don't know whether the colt could actually harm Crowley, because he fired all the bullets at other demons before Sam tried to shoot him. Crowley also claimed afterwards that he didn't know Lucifer was immune to the colt. Really? He was the King of the Crossroads and Lilith's right hand, he should have known that.
Another thing that didn't make sense was what Castiel told Crowley in "The Man Who Would Be King": "Just find Purgatory. If you don't, we will both die again and again, until the end of time." This sounds like they are both linked somehow and have a resurrection guarantee. Or is there any other way to explain this quote?
I think there's definitely more to Crowley than meets the eye. He may be a more powerful demon than he lets others think, or he may be something entirely different. I also think he might be the next big bad and he's certainly up to something, because he took the prophet in the season finale. Spoilers from Mark Sheppard at Comic Con:
Oh Crowley...

NishiNoMajo I definitely agree with you that there is more to Crowley than meets the eye. The only thing he seemed afraid of was Lucifer, and maybe Lucifer knows something about Crowley that has not been revealed. The inhabitants of both heaven and hell did their share of torture. Dean revealed they tortured him to death only to bring him back so they could torture him daily. Castiel and Anna both indicated Heaven's prison was torture. I took the statement "Just find Purgatory. If you don't, we will both die again and again, until the end of time." literally to mean they would be tortured forever and ever. But, I am certainly interested in other views on this as I tend to take things literally. I would like Crowley to be the Big Bad. He is one of my favorites and the guys would need to be resourceful to outwit him.
