Is it good? What a crazy random thing to ask.  I read through the first chapter or so, got distracted for a week or two, and then discovered I couldn't renew it because someone else wanted it. Soooo, I returned it today and then requested it myself, which means whoever got it next won't be able to renew it either.  Also, it will never get tagged with our new security tags because someone is always going to have it checked out ..... |

What do they do, shame you into returning items by giving disapproving librarian-glances every time you walk past? |

I have been known to donate to the HCL by not returning books on time so I can finish them. :-) Yeah, in the end you really can't complain too much about paying $1.25 for the latest bestseller. I mean, you can ... you can complain and ask to have your fines waived because your dog died and/or your friend swore up and down his sister would return your books and/or you have ADHD and/or you don't even live in this %*$*@#!ed city anyhow because the metered parking sucks, and you can take the book you were about to check out and slam it violently against the counter a few times for emphasis ... but then we'd just kick you out and put your photo up in the office so we know to alert the director next time you're here. |

Wait... do you work at my HCL? Yes. I work in a concrete bunker in an undisclosed location, it *coulllld* be there. Seriously though, it's concrete, has virtually no signage saying it's a library, and the main floor's practically underground -- a rabbit tried to run in through the eye-level windows once. |

Third option: To keep the world safe from the trainees.  If it weren't concrete they'd have burned the place down by now. They get confused by things that even patrons get right away. And they're getting paid for it. |
