Each statement describes two words that when fused together create a new unrelated word (not a compound word). The clues do not necessarily indicate in which order the two words are attached. Example: This is the oldness of a tablet (pill + age = pillage).
1) This is a canine's mother. 2) This is currently not there. 3) This is when pain is required. 4) This is a long time for a boar.
Answer 2) now + here = nowhere 3) must + ache = mustache 4) pig + eon = pigeon

Based on the clue in parentheses, find a four-letter word that can be inserted backwards into the blank to complete a longer word.
Example: di____ve (a defeat) Answer: dissolve ("A defeat" gives you LOSS, which is placed backwards in the blank: di_SSOL_ve.)
1. mu____ds (rodents) 2. fro____g (young lice) 3. con____s (flightless bird) 4. ta____le (flying mammals)
Answer 1. mustards + (RATS - mu_STAR_ds) 2. frosting + (NITS - fro_STIN_g) 3. consumes + (EMUS - con_SUME_s) 4. tastable + (BATS - ta_STAB_le)

An Arab sheikh tells his two sons to race their camels to a distant city to see who will inherit his fortune. The one whose camel is slower wins. After wandering aimlessly for days, the brothers ask a wise man for guidance. Upon receiving the advice, they jump on the camels and race to the city as fast as they can. What did the wise man say to them?
He told them to swap camels.

I am confused so what is left to solve? It's the word "and", not &, which is used five times. There is no & in the sign. What did the person say? Also, I have a new one. 74 = 26 By moving the digits around, what true mathematical statement can be created?

Oops. I got busy and forgot to come here.
John was born at mid-century, and he died before the century ended. When he was a teenager Vice-President Johnson was sworn in after the assassination. He died in the same house he was born in, and yet he died in a different state than he was born in. The house is still where it was when he was born. How is this possible?

I had to fix the one I added several weeks ago, but STILL no one has tried it. I did it wrong.
Here's a new one.
After the apocalypse, three groups of people live in Bluebell, and three groups live in what's left of Mobile, which now has a population of 20,000.
1 percent of Mobile residents lost a leg in the fighting. They only wear one shoe. Half of the remaining people are hillbillies who don't wear shoes. The rest of the people wear two shoes.
In Bluebell, a staggering 20 percent of the population have only one leg and therefore wear one shoe. Of the rest, half are hillbillies who don't wear shoes, and half wear two shoes.
If the people of Bluebell have 20,000 shoes, and no one with two feet has more than one pair, and no one with one foot has more than one shoe, what is the population of Bluebell?

You're not allowed to add anything. You have to work with the digits you have. Well if it was 64 = 26 you could go 64 = 2 6 and be a true statement, but I can't figure something with the 7 instead.

Was he born in Hawaii before it became a state? He was born in a state. Different 'state of being'? As in dressed versus naked? ETA: After lots of research into American history... (I'm Canadian, I don't need to know this stuff ) Tricky (intentional) wording in the riddle as there were two VP Johnsons sworn in after a President was assassinated. Lyndon Johnson was sworn-in in 1963 after JFK's assassination. If John was a teenager at this time (13-19 years of age) he would have been born between 1944 & 1950. The only states added/changed after this time were Hawaii & Alaska and they weren't states previously, so it's obviously not this Johnson being referred to. Andrew Johnson was sworn-in in 1865 after Lincoln's assassination. If John was a teenager at this time (13-19 years of age) he would have been born between 1846 & 1852. West Virginia was divided off from Virginia in 1863 (from what I can tell, all other states added after 1846 were 'Territories' before becoming states and therefore disqualified from the riddle answer). John must have been born in the section of Virginia that was later used to form the state of West Virginia.

Below is a list of word meanings. The answers to these word meanings have been omitted except for the
two-lettered consonants that appear in each word; either: 'SH', 'TH', or 'WH'. The word meanings are not in
order, so it is your job to try and associate the meanings with the correct word by filling in the missing letters.
1. The grain of a cereal grass. 2. A small musical instrument that makes a long high sound. 3. Press something very hard so you break or damage it. 4. A small, yellow-flowered clover. 5. Send out a bright light that comes and goes quickly. 6. The front part of the neck. 7. Shake because you are cold. 8. Any person or thing. 9. More than a little but not very.

A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. He waited by the door and listened. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said "twelve." The member replied "six " and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said "six." The member replied "three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said "ten" and the man replied "five." but he was not let in. What should have he said? He should have said three. There are six letters in twelve, three letters in six and three letters in ten.

I did not realize Taltos had added puzzles. Will work on them. Taltos worked hard on that "state" teaser.
