Hmmm. This would be easier if the piece that broke off was 1.5 feet!

Then the water would be 8 foot deep.

Thanks. I'm coming up with yellow hammer , though I am not familiar with that. That is correct (though it's one word not two). Yippee! And you did say it was 12 letters, which would make it one word. Just happy I solved it.

The water is 6 foot 9 inches deep. The 1/5th, 2/3rds and 1/8th have to be fractions of the original height of the pole, not the current height of the pole.

Hmmm. Common denominator = 120. 24/120 is in the mud, 80/120 is in the water, 15/120 is out of the water, and 1/120 is out of the water. Found my mistake. 1/120 of the pole = 1.25 feet so the part in the water is 1.25 feet times 80 feet = 100 feet. So, yes he could drown himself, but he won't.

That question may not be written completely unambiguously.
No one is loved back by the person they love.

There are still 3 to solve on the previous page (posts #109, 110 & 112), and before I go to bed, here's a couple more to keep you guys occupied.
Pronounced as one letter, And written with three, Two letters there are, And two only in me. I'm double, I'm single, I'm black, blue, and gray, I'm read from both ends, And the same either way. What am I?

If you like pretty gems that sparkle and shine, I invite you to dig in my virtual mine. My first is purple, fit for a king, My second is green where Dorothy did her thing. My third is red, July's birthstone as well, My fourth is seen in strings and is found inside a shell. My fifth is hard, pure Carbon and expensive to buy, My sixth is Crocidolite, striped like the big cat's eye. Seventh is two words, a man-made fake of April's stone, Eighth is very dark and found at Lightning Ridge alone. Now take from each gem, one letter in its turn, And you will find the stuff for which even the gods yearn.

Inspector Ixolite of the Yard was investigating a murder at Nottonmye Manor. It was a difficult case, and Ixolite was completely stumped until he noticed a message sent to him by the killer cunningly hidden in a newspaper advertisement selling Car Licence Plates. Inspector Ixolite thought about it for a while, and when he had solved the puzzle, immediately arrested the guilty man.
Q1) How Did Ixolite know the advert was a clue for him?
Q2) Solve the code and tell me who Ixolite arrested?
This is the newspaper advert, (Car licence plates for sale) that Inspector Ixolite saw.

Last Puzzle, First Question: The first letter of the plates spell out "Who Dunnit IX"
The last 3 letters of the plates, when read from end to beginning reads "Advance each letter by the number shown."
"Butler did it"

That first one, I think of "ewe" but it doesn't meet all the requirements. I think there is some tricky wording going on.
Pronounced as one letter -- "U" And written with three -- E W E Two letters there are -- E used twice and W used once And two only in me -- same reference or 2 letters in the word "me" ? I'm double, I'm single -- W is double U? I'm black, blue, and gray -- ?? I'm read from both ends and the same either way -- this fits.
So, I don't get it 100% but it seems to be Ewe.
Reminds me of the song "It had to be Ewe"

"Ewe and me against the world. Sometimes it seems like Ewe and me against the world ...."
The other puzzles seem like a lot of work and I have an appointment before noon tomorrow so I'd better get some sheep ... umm ... sleep. I'll just count the sheep.

I was stuck for a while because I had the words:
indigent instead of diligent apparel instead of speaker
when your mind gets set that certain words are right ... and when you are tired ... it gets hard to get unstuck.

Reposting from previous page: This one is yet to be solved.
Place the words below into pairs. You will then have 5 lots of eight letters, each of which is an anagram of another word. What are the original 5 words?
ETA: I'll make this a bit easier and divide the words into 2 groups. Match a word from the left group with one on the right:
PEER_________ PALE TIME_________ SNOB WALL_________ DATE JUNE_________ SEAT TONE_________ VILE
