Good so far. Taltos, thanks. "PIRES" gave me a problem because I wanted to spell it "pyres" and that, of course, would not work.

Yeah, after googling a bit, I don't think that is a legitimate alternate spelling.

Two of mine still haven't been done. Also, I corrected a typo in one. A man has a wife and twin sons. The sons insist on receiving equal amounts of anything they are given. The mother bakes a rectangular birthday cake, but it stays in too long and the edges are burned slightly. The father is a jerk who can't wait, and he doesn't like eating the burnt edges of the cake, so he cuts a perfectly rectangular piece out of the middle, though the sides of this rectangle are not parallel to the sides of the cake. What are two ways the sons can get equal amounts of cake? Cut the cake horizontally into 2 equally thick sections or weigh the cake to insure it's equally divided. I don't know if I've posted here since you answered this, but what are you going to weigh? You still haven't said how you're going to cut the cake in order to have anything to weigh. I'm still waiting for someone to answer my other brain teasers. Here's a new one. You have three boxes. One contains Aeryn's photo. If you choose that one you win a date with Aeryn. One box is made of gold, one is made of silver, and the third is made of bronze. Each box has a Post-It Note on top. The one on the gold box says, "Aeryn's picture is in this box." The one on the silver box says, "The picture isn't in this box." The one on the bronze box says, "The picture isn't in the gold box." The hint is, one of the statements, and only one, is true.

The Bingo Apartments are exactly what they sound like. Five stories, with five apartments on each floor, all looking out on a walkway which runs from one end to the other. There are stairways on each end but no elevator. The super lives in the basement with the laundry room and equipment rooms. Every tenant is jealous of the apartment belonging to someone living next door or above or below. Those living on each end have only one person on the same floor to be jealous of. Those living on the top floor have no one directly above to be jealous of, and those living on the first floor have no one below (no one is jealous of the super) to be jealous of. Is it possible for each tenant to move to an apartment either next door or directly above or directly below? No answer yet.

You're not allowed to add anything. You have to work with the digits you have. Taltos figured this out but there's one more detail that has to be worked out.

If this is true, then so is the statement about not being in the Silver box, so the picture is not in the Gold box. "The picture isn't in this box." If this is true, the other two statements must be false, but as they contradict each other, they can't both be wrong. "The picture isn't in the gold box." As the other statements have been eliminated, this one must be true, so the picture is not in the gold box (confirmed by the gold statement having to be false). This also makes the Silver statement that it is not in the Silver box false. Therefore the picture can be found in the Silver box.

I'm still waiting for someone to do the other two. I'll just go ahead and say the Bingo Apartments problem cannot be solved. So technically the responses are correct, even if no one came up with that important answer. And I have a new one today. I give you one thousand $1 bills and ten envelopes. How can you use the ten envelopes to give anyone who asks any amount of money between $1 and $1000?

74 = 26 By moving the digits around, what true mathematical statement can be created? Someone has come close. You can only use the digits that are there. You cannot add any symbols.

Well if it was 64 = 26 you could go 64 = 2 6 and be a true statement, but I can't figure something with the 7 instead.

A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was required. He waited by the door and listened. A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said "twelve." The member replied "six " and was let in. A second member came to the door and the doorman said "six." The member replied "three" and was let in. The man thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said "ten" and the man replied "five." but he was not let in. What should have he said? ________________________________________________________ He should have said "three".

Where is Taltos? Where is Brain? Oh, wow, have I been that busy? I still want people to try to solve my others, but I have a new one today. You have one hundred seemingly identical coins. One is fake and weighs slightly more than the others but is otherwise exactly the same in appearance and size to the others. Using only the coins themselves and a balance scale, what is the minimum numer of coins that must be weighed to determine if one of the coins is the fake coin?
