The last writing challenge I took part in was to write a story in less than 5 minutes using the cliche opening line "It was a dark and stormy night ...." without making a story that was as much of a cliche as the opening line. My attempt is posted next.

“Rude Awakening”
Rated G 103 Words
It was a dark and stormy night … or so I had thought. It had been a dry and dusty day and the road had been long and it felt like the life had been sucked out of me. I heard water hitting glass and the roar of the wind. I felt vibrations as my shelter was pummeled by a series of small impacts. In fear for my safety, I forced myself awake and was immediately aware that the sun had been blotted out. I cursed myself saying, “You idiot! You fell asleep in the car wash!”

Thank you! Maybe that is why I can't get paid for writing (since it is price less). I'm supposed to try to re-invent myself as a writer now that I have basically no interest in doing anything anymore. I just need to find a way to light a fire again.
