Thank you so much for sharing this Chloe.
When music ensnared my soul, at a very young age, I wanted to find out everything I could about what had gone before. I knew I loved the blues, and I wanted to find out more about it. I ordered two albums from a record company: one was Brownie Magee and Sonny Terry, the other was Doc and his son Merle.
I never really knew what country blues was till I heard him. I was trying to learn to play the guitar at the same time I first heard him, and he taught me a lot about finger-picking the blues.
Here are a few of my favorites. The first one seems especially appropriate:
I'm not a religious man.
Unless Doc Watson's playing. He makes me a believer every time I hear him.

I wasn't necessarily a fan, but I do like some of the musical styles associated with Doc Watson.
My usual pop radio station was airing a baseball game so I switched to my classic country station. It was time for bluegrass. Now I never heard Doc Watson mentioned, but I did hear some good music.
Bluegrass, for those who don't know, includes the theme songs from "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Deliverance". And if you ever saw "The Andy Griffith Show", the Dillards who played The Darling Family are highly regarded in that genre, even though they came across as ignorant hicks otherwise.

I couldn't find it online, but I was in the next room when a local TV station aired a report on Doc Watson, and I liked the music I heard him play.
