Space . . . the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before. Gene Roddenberry

I'm reading a book on Stephen Hawking right now, so of course I've got to post this:
Look at Hawking's smile--isn't it magnificent?

I was wondering if I was remembering the scene correctly. I love it! I also liked the episode where... I guess Data was observing a Sherlock Holmes mystery?

It's amazing the way Hawkings was able to twist his mouth into that smile. Very talented.
I always enjoy the way Data makes it seem so easy to say those complicated explanations. Maybe I should start a Star Trek marathon.

As I mentioned I'm reading a book (Stephen Hawking--An Unfettered Mind by Kitty Ferguson) on Hawking right now, and it's got the background on that famous Star Trek scene.
In the spring of 1993 at a party celebrating the DVD release of the film of the book A Brief History in Time, Leonard Nimoy was one of the guests, and introduced Hawking. Upon learning that Hawking was an avid Star Trek fan and would love to be on the show, Nimoy called Star Trek: The Next Generation Producer Rick Berman and told him.
A three-minute scene was added to the episode "Descent," and I think you'll agree with me that the writing was top-notch and funny as hell.
Actor John Neville, who played Newton in the scene said "When you get that smile (Hawking's) in reaction to something you've said, it's worth the whole day's pay, really."
Showing his characteristic understated wit, Hawking said on the set, "between film roles I also enjoy solving physics problems." He lamented that his one regret was that "unfortunately there was a red alert, so I never collected my winnings" although he had "beaten them all."
If you're as fanatical as I am you might have stopped the video and caught that Hawking's hand was four 7s and the jack of diamonds. A pretty cool hand.

Interesting video. I noticed fans are still fighting after all these years. First comment: You ignorant fool, Star Wars goes a lot more deeper than what you appear to only superficialy percieve. NeonPsychedelicRobot in reply to xxSmilingclouds1x (Show the comment) 2 days ago

I've only watched two of the Star Trek series (and those are the best ones too): The original and TNG Favorites in the original: Kirk, Spock, and Scotty, Bones (I did not watch very many episodes). Favorites in TNG: Picard, Riker, Data, Troi, Crusher and her son, and there was one other, whom I forgot her name, she was played by Whoopi Goldberg, I think?

I really hate Riker. He always looks as though he has a stick up his ass. And even though I LOVED Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap, I did NOT like Enterprise. Or Deep Space Nine, which had Ferengis popping up all the time. Who created Ferengis, anyway?

I just watched the movie "Star Trek" that was directed and produced by J J Abrams. After watching Revolution, I have a lot of respect for Mr. Abrams. Has anyone else seen the movie? This movie is wonderful. I like the way the movie showed us the crew in the academy and that Kirk and Spock were always opposites. Because of the time fluctuation, I was able to easily accept and enjoy elements of the movie that I do not recall as being canon. I am watching the extras on the DVDs and each actor met the original actor who played the role. The purpose seemed mainly to put them at ease and assure them they could put their own spin on Spock, etc. instead of trying to imitate them. That worked very well. "I got no place else to go. My wife took the whole damn planet in the divorce!"

The movie is incredible! I loved the movie, I was surprised how much I really enjoyed it!
I was all set out to actually hate it but after about 10 minutes, I was immediately immersed in the story and was glad it was so well done. The story was a bit lagging in parts of it like with the scenes with the bad guy but overall it was a great movie, I liked how the story wasn't part of the original cannon and mentioned little tidbits in it like Admiral Archer I believe is from the Enterprise series and having Tyler Perry play a Star Fleet official? That was an interesting twist to it and I love that quote from Bones about his divorce!
The behind the scenes features on how they made the movie is incredible too especially the stuff with the mirrors is really good too Anti!

The Star Trek: Into Darkness was a good movie as well. I bought a copy of it on DVD for $0.99 at a thrift store and for my weekly movie challenge I chose that one and it was actually pretty good. It wasn't as good as the original Wrath of Khan but it was still good on it's own.
