How did I miss this thread? I love the blues. And the blues never make me sad; they pick me up. Boom boom boom boom.
When my grandson applied to the School for the Arts for music, I encouraged him to play a blues song on his guitar. Everyone else was playing classical pieces which was not necessary. They wanted to see who had natural talent. He was only 9 or 10, and the faculty and other students gave him a standing ovation. I think it was because he looked like he was enjoying the music and it was fun. He didn't sing; he played this version.

I can't say that I like the blues. But there are individual blues songs I like.
The first one that comes to mind is the one James Best played on "The Andy Griffith Show" after he just had his car repossessed. He just played it on his guitar.
One time a classic rock station where I live had a big band jazz-style song, which turned out to be part of a blues show.

I heard Ray Charles and Diana Ross sing a duet during a movie's closing credits. I can't remember the movie.
While I don't like the blues under all circumstances, if Ray Charles is singing them it's got to be good.

Buddy Guy was one of those honored at the Kennedy Center Honors. However, I didn't like any of the music he did or any of the people paying tribute to him did.
Even worse was Led Zeppelin. The Kennedy Center Honors have hit a new low. I know there were qualities in their music that related to blues, according to what was said. To me it was just noise.
Just my opinion.
