To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes -- a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) -- who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse. Pacific Rim also stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day. Warner Bros. Pictures: Man Of Steel The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey-From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Jackson returns to Middle-earth in an adventure that begins 60 years before the events depicted in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The first of two films adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's enduringly popular masterpiece, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows titular Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who-along with the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and a band of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage)-is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. The film's ensemble cast includes Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lily, and Andy Serkis as Gollum. (5) True Blood Panel and Q&A sessio— Mixing romance, suspense, mystery, and humor, the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated True Blood kicked off its 12-episode fifth season June 10 on HBO. The series follows the exploits of waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people's thoughts; vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer); and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård). Oscar and Emmy Award winner Alan Ball created and serves as executive producer of the series, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. The series and this panel also features Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse, Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte, Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton, Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette Reynolds, Deborah Ann Woll as Jessica Hamby, Kristin Bauer van Straten as Pam Swynford De Beaufort, Joe Manganiello as Alcide Herveaux and Chris Meloni as Roman Zimojic. Moderated by Tim Stack of Entertainment Weekly. (6) Marvel Studios: Iron Man 3— Producer Kevin Feige and special guests provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. (7) Tribute to the Legendary Ray Bradbury— Some called him the greatest writer of fantasy of all time. He was a writer of legendary science fiction, an inspiration to generations, and a good friend of Comic-Con. We lost him on June 12, and now many of his friends and colleagues gather to celebrate this extraordinary figure. The guest list is still being finalized as this guide goes to press, but it should include authors William F. Nolan, George Clayton Johnson, Marc Scott Zicree, Joe Hill, and Margaret Atwood, along with figures from the worlds of motion pictures and television. Your hosts are Bradbury biographer Sam Weller (Shadow Show: All-New Stories in Celebration of Ray Bradbury) and Comic-Con special guest Mark Evanier. If you go, live video reports here. And you have to sneak into the Firefly 10th anniversary forum. Just tell them you're Mrs. Malcolm Reynolds.

Well, have no fear. Even if we don't have a reporter on the spot, we'll be posting every big thing that happens right here.
I'd love to see what the Comic-Con folks are going to get to see for the Man of Steel preview. Hopefully we'll have it here shortly afterwards.

Sam Raimi conducted a Comic-Con panel today on his next movie "Oz- The Great and Powerful" which is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz and stars James Franco and Mila Kunis. They showed this trailer for the film, which Disney has just now made available on their website: trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/ozthegreatandpowerful/I love how the trailer expands from black and white video with a television size aspect ratio to dazzling widescreen technicolor as we come into Oz.

Here's another great film trailer that debuted today at Comic-Con. It's for Tim Burton's 'Frankenweenie.' I just love those old Universal Horror fonts in this salute to classic monster movies:

A few posts from the HitFix live blog mentioned above:
1:26 p.m.: What about a "Firefly" animated series? Joss: "I get it, but for some reason, I would be more interested in doing it as a radio show." Fillion and Tudyk proceed to act out the radio show, complete with fake sound effects. The scene concludes with Mal hitting on Zoe while Wash is out of the room.
1:27 p.m.: Whedon keeps the bit going, asks Maher to say something intelligent and Simon-sounding. Maher: "I think you have a fever?" Fillion: "And the only cure is more 'Firefly'!"
1:30 p.m.: Fillion says "When 'Firefly' died, I thought it was the worst thing that could have happened." Looking at the room, he realizes that "The worst thing that could have happened was that it stayed dead," and the people in this room are proof that it didn't. Whedon: "Can everybody tweet that I said that? I don't want him to have the best!"

Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, and Summer Glau: Firefly Reunion Panel Ends in Tears 1:32 p.m.: Last question: if Joss had known that season 1 would be the only season, how would the finale have differed from "Serenity"? The crowd like this one. Whedon: "It would've been littler. Most of the Reavers would've been off-screen." He notes that "Firefly" was the cheapest of the three shows he was making at the time. Even if they had canceled the show and he absolutely knew that was the end of the show, "I don't think I would have killed anybody." Tudyk pumps his arms in triumph. Whedon: "A film is a different animal and has different needs. And I think we would've delved more into the Blue Sun conspiracy, which we had to drop. And we would've learned about Book and about Inara. For some reason, that's the question that's going to make me cry." And Fillion massages his boss's shoulder as Whedon takes a moment to compose himself. 1:35 p.m.: Time for one more clip and one more question. The clip is Mal talking to Simon at the end of the pilot. Mal notes that they're still flying. Simon: "That's not much." Mal: "It's enough." Jensen asks Whedon about how "We're still flying" has become a big mantra for the fan community, asks him again what the fans mean to him. Whedon's struggling here. He's overcome, and the fans call out, "We love you, Joss!" Fillion is crying for real, has very red eyes, and now there's a standing ovation, again, and Glau is crying, and now the actors are all giving Whedon a standing ovation as well. Maher and Glau hug, Baldwin pats his heart to show how touched he is. Whedon: "Only an idiot would actually try to follow that with a sentence. When you come out of a great movie, you feel like you're in that world. You come out of 'Brazil,' and suddenly everything is duct piping and everything's weird and too much. You come out of certain things, and the world has become that. when you're telling a story, you're trying to connect to people in a particular way... The way in which you guys have inhabited this world, this universe, have made you part of it, part of the story. You are living in 'Firefly.' When I see you guys, I don't think the show is off the air. I don't think there's a show. I think, that's what the world is like. I think there are spaceships, there are horses, and our story is alive." More applause, and then another round follows as the actors wave to the crowd one more time. 1:39 p.m.: That's all, folks. I've been to a lot of emotional Comic-Con panels in the last few years, but this one was pretty special. from Hitfix.com live blog. Damn, I'm tearing up now myself.

You're not the only one, Chloe. People all across the world are reporting themselves in tears on Twitter just from reading the blogs about the end of the panel. The beginning of the panel sounds hilarious and wonderful. Once again from www.hitfix.com//whats-alan-watching/firefly-cast-and-joss-whedon-reunite-10-years-later-at-comic-con-live-blog12:48 p.m.: Moderator Jeff Jensen emerges to introduce the panel, admits they're running late, "So let's get on with the thrilling heroics." "Firefly" writer Jose Molina is the first to emerge, is greeted warmly as he photographs us. Tim Minear is also photographing the audience. "This actor wanted to be introduced as bounty hunter and sandwich maker," says Jensen. "You know him better as a leaf on the wind," and the audience explodes for Alan Tudyk, including a standing ovation from a good chunk of the crowd. Tudyk and Minear hug. The audience drowns out Jensens's introduction of Nathan Fillion after the phrase "Captain Tightpants," and now 80 percent of the ballroom is on its feet as Fillion raises his arms in triumph. My eardrums come close to bursting at the shrieks when summer Glau emerges. She mouths a bashful "Thank you" as Molina takes her picture. Sean Maher enters acting like he's just arrived at the greatest surprise party ever, mouths "OH MY GOD" at Glau. Adam Baldwin enters in triumph to the room he came to know well during his "Chuck" days. The audience also drowns out Jensen's introduction of Joss Whedon, and now everyone is on their feet as Whedon has a smile on his face that doesn't look like it will go away anytime soon. 12:49 p.m.: Jensen asks Whedon what it means for him to be here on the 10th anniversary of "Firefly." "Means I'm running on fumes, let's face it," Whedon cracks, before saying they always knew "everything we were doing was for the right reasons, with the right people, that we were making something that was more than the sum of its parts, that I had the best cast I will ever work with," then quickly adds, "We also had Alan." Says this isn't about vindication, but about transcendence. 12:51 p.m.: What does Mal Reynolds mean to Fillion? Fillion: "If I can get through this without crying, then I'm gonna look a lot cooler." He notes that pre-"Firefly," no one would give him a chance to be anything but "The number five guy." No one thought he could carry a show. Joss gave him that chance, and "the best character I've ever played." Me again here: As I understand it, the room the panel was held in could hold almost 5000 people in it. I can't begin to guess what it's like to have that many people chanting 'we love you' to you like the crowd did at the end. And it's entirely appropriate that it began with laughter and ended in tears. Hopefully we'll have some YouTube video of it to share before long.

The entire panel sounds wonderful. Whedon must be thrilled and touched to see how much his fans and his cast love him. It all sounds as if it was worth waiting in line all night to be able to witness it. I am so glad I have been synchrowatching the show and can appreciate everything that happened.

Just found this quote Joss made over on Whedonesque.com: Joss Whedon speaks out on Firefly anniversary panel. Speaking to Geoff Boucher of the LA Times, Joss expresses his excitement about next week's event at San Diego Comic-Con. "No matter how many years pass, I'll never forget 'Firebug.' I can't wait to sit once more with Washboard, KayMart, Rivet, the Hot Hooker from Homeland and Captain Kirk. Those guys are my family. Expect laughter, tears, faith-healing and Internet rumors about a sequel. To infinity, and prosper!"

Just flipped on coverage of Comic-Con on channel G4 and saw a quick slice of Papa Winchester, Jeffery Dean Morgan, talking about a movie he's in. Wish I had caught it earlier....didn't catch the name of the movie, but it seems to be a horror movie. Too bad he's there they day before the Supernatural team takes over the big hall. And why didn't Aeryn tell us she was going to attend:

The panel was funny and the fans really love them. "a leaf on the wind" "captain tight pants" "a birthday cake in a wasteland" "shiny" AND this one from Joss, "Everything we were doing was for the right reasons, with the right people, that we were making something that was more than the sum of its parts, that I had the best cast I will ever work with," then he adds, "We also had Alan." I also loved the radio show improv, "What up, Zoe?" Did you notice that Summer started crying shortly after Joss came out? I can't even imagine what it must have been like to be on the set with so many funny, brilliant people, and to be working on a project that was as special as this. Yes, the audience loved them, but it's evident in every thing they said and did that the cast and crew loved it just as much as we, and that they and us, we're all on the same wavelength. As Joss said, 'the story lives.'
