In times of tragedy...I am not sure of my place.
Something needs to be said as to today's event...........No?
My apologies.
It is just that I am saddened on many levels.
What do we say?

I am so happy that it was just one crazy person in one place today. There are so many disturbed, angry, unhappy people in the world. Many, many have impulses. One didn't control them ... one out of 314 million Americans. I'm glad that thousands upon thousands watched movies in theaters today without incident and safely enjoyed themselves. I'm sorry that the crazy person will be known and get publicity. It is a reward he sought. He is no longer anonymous.

Shit happens. Yes, some people got killed. Bummer. But we don't know what drove this guy to do what he did.
People suffer silently, they get angry, they want to die. When no one listens to them, sometimes they snap and go on a killing spree.
Such is life.

This person shot a three month old baby
Rest assured...whichever prison that he goes to, the inmates there will make him pay.

NBC News ended with stills from the event right before "Jeopardy". I have to say I'm relieved "Jeopardy" did air. You wonder in such a situation what will happen. I found it unnerving to see a bald man with a military-style gun. But when I found out the accused shooter had a Joker-type hairstyle, I was relieved. That must have been a cop. One of the first things I saw when I turned on my computer, though, was this crazy-looking man with red hair. I had seen him at the college but the newspaper web site didn't have a photo I could really see without clicking on the article. My phone company is not nearly so considerate.

This was horrible, and I've had a difficult time processing my feelings on it, because it reminds me of when that piece of scum (I won't add to his fame by using his name) killed John Lennon.
I've been a Batman fan all of my life, and The Joker has been my favorite villain of any found in fiction. The danger of the Joker is that he's liable to do anything at any time, and kills with glee.
To see this played out in real life is another thing entirely. At an event most people had been looking forward to for months, this loser decides he can't handle the world and uses Batman and The Joker to commit mass murder.
For some of us the characters of Batman and the Joker have made our life better and given us entertainment, even hope. Like the shooting of John Lennon this was an attack on more than just innocent people, it was an attack on our cultural icons.
My heart aches for the lives taken and those injured. I don't know when I'll be able to read a comic with the Joker in it again without thinking of what happened in real life in Colorado.
I'm glad they captured the guy.
I'd be even gladder to be the one that takes him out.

Later reports confirm there were multiple listings for James Holmes in Aurora, Colorado. For SOME reason, Brian Ross decided that, without verifying the information first, he would postulate that the Jim Holmes, listed as a Tea Party member, might be the same Jim Homes who had just murdered 12 people and wounded at least 50 others.
I thought real, professional news reporters were supposed to check stories for facts and/or errors before presenting information.
The nutcase James Holmes, the one who shot up the theatre is 24 years old. Jim Holmes, Aurora Tea party member is 52 years old. He had to turn off his phone because he began getting death threats after Brian Ross excitedly voiced over the airwaves his discovery of a possible "right wing" connection.
The airwaves were full of calls for Rush Limbaugh to be taken off the air for calling a woman a "slut" on his radio show. This went on for more than a week.
As of today, George Stephenopolous and Brian Ross still have their jobs.
I pray for the souls of those killed by this madman and those who were hurt and all the families and friends.

I cannot tell you how many times I come to this thread to reply and I end up having no words for this... my heart aches for the victims and their families in this senseless tragedy. People go to movies to escape the harsh realities of the world even for just a couple of hours... something like this... is just a nightmare. And for it to happen in a superhero movie... It's funny, last month, I stated in my blog how superheroes give us hope... how they inspire others to do good. But there were heroic stories that came from that tragedy... I read the latest article... the one about his court date... and I read the comments... some say it's due to a psychotic break and he's really mentally ill... some even said something about him being in a trance... hypnotism... seriously!? abcnews.go.com/US/colorado-shooting-suspect-james-holmes-appears-court/story?id=16834757#.UA4WpGGm-AkFor us to continue to have hope, we must have justice...

Animalpragmatism hasn't been here lately. On her Facebook page she mentions both her daughter Aurora and this tragedy, but she doesn't make a connection between the two. For example, although she's probably trying to protect her daughter from the news, she hasn't commented that her daughter has heard her name a lot on TV or anything like that.
On the subject of Facebook, one of my high school classmates may have lung cancer.

One of the newsapers I read online has this annoying habit now of showing us rotating photos of what is happening in the news. Some of it is pure fluff like Katy Perry or J-Lo in a bikini (although these are not necessarily bad). Apparently there is a full story if you click on the photo. And then they had this bizarre-looking orange-haired man who I immediately recognized as ... him. The headline over the photo was "Why am I locked up?"
If he's serious, there may be something wrong with him.

I just read a news article in which a psychologist said it could be one of three things... a psychotic episode, mania, or Fake mental symptoms he learned about as a neuroscience student. I'm a psychology student, and I have no doubt that this situation would be up for debate at my college... maybe not this particular debate, but something similar. And as a psychology student, I honestly do not know what to say about this.
To be honest, it really could be one of those three things. It it's the first two options, most likely, he would get treatment and then depending on how he is after that will determine what's next for him.
Of course, if you want my honest, educated opinion, with the amount of planning that he did and him being a former neuroscience student, it is more than likely he is faking it. Because if it was a psychotic break or mania, it would be so sudden, there would most likely be no planning, especially as detailed as this plan seemed to be.
And there was one article I found about another man claiming to be the joker and planned to shoot up his workplace. Luckily, he was stopped.

I visited my aunt yesterday and found out my cousin was a classmate of his, and that she has gone to that theater but was not there that night.
