It's not a hurricane yet, but it will be by the time it reaches my area, so I'm making this thread to let you know what's going on. There's a good chance I will lose either electicity or internet connection sometime Tuesday or Wednesday. If so, don't worry, I'll be back up as soon as I can. The bad news is that the projected cone is now taking the storm in a direction in which I will be in the northeastern quadrant, where the strongest winds and chance of tornadoes occurs. We now have an official hurricane warning in south Alabama. The only good news is that it seems to be turning away from Watchtower's area on the eastern coast of Fla. I will give you updates from here as long as I can, and if I do evacuate, will let you know as soon as I can. So, let's have a little hurricane music, right? And is there one about me? Yes, there is. \ Even without a hurricane, there's always a bad Moon on the rise.

Perfect choice Please stay safe. Have you ever had to evacuate in a hurry? I have not and have often wondered what the heck I would take with me.

I will take as many of my of my cats as I can gather, my boxes of poems and short stories and everything else I've written, and my laptop.
But to be honest, I don't think I'll have to evacuate. I've been through 90 mph winds here with no problem.
One of the best times I've spent recently was with my cousin over at Jimmy Buffet's sister Lulu's restaurant down in Gulf Shores. Had the best cheeseburger I've ever had in my life, the 'Cheeseburger in Paradise'. I think I'll call her now and see how she is.

Thanks, SoCal. I was actually born during a sandstorm in Ft. Worth, Texas. Not nearly the same, but I've always felt a kinship to the opening lines of this song:

Whatever happens, please don't do anything to my beloved Louisana. That's as close as I can come to a prayer.
I hope I can be there again someday.

Damn it. Heading straight towards New Orleans.
Latest info is that it shou;d be category one, rather than two, when making landfall.

Here's the latest from south Alabama. It began this morning with notice of a mandatory evacuation of the southern portion of my county. I'm in the middle, so all of the evacuated areas are south of me.
I hate that the storm is headed towards the state I love best, Louisiana. I was there for Katrina and saw what happened. I'd never want a hurricane to hit there again. Ever.
But as it stands now, those of us in south Alabama will be in the northeastern quadrant, where the heaviest winds and tornadoes occur.
You wouldn't know it to look outside now, there is no rain in my area yet, but the winds are showing the unmistakable signs. The heavy thunderstorms and winds should hit tonight and last for at least 24 hours in my area.
The bad news is that, although we had some respite today, with forecasts of it being a category 1 storm, the Weather Channel is now saying it will be a category 2, with winds of 100 mph upon landfall. That little bit of difference can mean a lot.

I'm being told that the storm is so large, my area is being hit by the outer bands of Hurricane Isaac. The worse I'll get is a lot of rain, so there are flooding concerns... Debby was a nightmare and some areas are still trying to clean up from that. Do you have any plans to evacuate, Moon, or are you just gonna try to ride out the storm?

Darn, the music stopped when I hit "reply". I so admire MisterMoonlight's gift of making me smile even in the midst of terrible news. And that SoCal introduces me to unfamiliar music.
I hope both Chloe and MisterMoonlight stay safe and that Louisiana has made adequate preparations.

You had better stay safe then! Luckily, there's no flooding damage as far as I can tell. From the article: The size of the storm is spreading rain across most of the Florida. While the center of Issac is more than 400 miles from Jacksonville, bands of rain have already moved across the metro area Monday and more is expected. Channel 4 meteorologist Richard Nunn said while the winds will lesson over the next day or so, the chance of rain will continue high through Wednesday. "We have a chance of active weather from Issac," Nunn said. "There will be periods of rain, with 1 to 3 inches of rain not out of the question over the next 24 hours." www.news4jax.com/news/Isaac-passes-Key-West-heads-into-Gulf-of-Mexico/-/475880/16207296/-/eo283v/-/index.htmlWe'll be lucky if the flooding is not as bad as Debby. I'm not as concerned about my immediate area, except maybe the back room of my house. The backyard floods easily. And during Debby, it was even going into the kitchen.

Hang in there Moon. I'll be hoping Issac loses some strength over the night.
In the meantime, I guess you can listen to:

Sometimes you have to leave a place to discover how much you love it. If you'd ever like to see how things truly are in New Orleans, I can't reccommend the HBO series Treme enough. I saw the first couple of episodes and it took a while to be able to watch the rest, because it reminded me too much of what I missed. I love this show. If there's any grace, someday I'll be back to Louisiana.

Let's get some cajuns in here and a fais-do-do rising for Louisiana:
And, New Orleans royalty:

Latest update:
Today we've had very brief periods of rain. The winds are fairly strong, but so far my area has been spared any violent weather. We are under a tornado watch for another two and a half hours.
Looking at radar I think we may start getting stronger weather within the next hour or two.
Latest news from the weather channel is that it remains a minimal hurricane, and is now projected to make landfall just west of New Orleans, which of course means that New Orleans will be in the northeastern quadrant, which is not a good place to be.
At work today we lost power for about 2 seconds, then it came back.
To all my friends in Louisiana, I've been thinking of you constantly.
UPDATE: Heavy rains just started. Some nasty stuff on radar headed our way. Winds now up to 80MPH. It's gonna be a long night.

Abraham and Sarah were too old to have children, but they did anyway. Isaac means "one who laughs", and he was the father of the Jewish people and of Jacob and Esau directly. Jacob deceived his father in his old age, pretending to be his brother Esau. But you probably know Jacob best as the father of Joseph, who wore the coat of many colors.
Abraham was also father of Ishmael, father of Muslims.

No damage that I can see outside this morning. It's dark and cloudy and we've still got strong winds, with rain coming intermittently. The weather channel says the worst of it will come this morning. We have a tornado watch in my area till 4pm today.
Must have lost power briefly during the night. My clock radio was blinking when I woke up this morning.

We are easily getting the worst weather we've had yet from Isaac in my area this afternoon. Lots of rain and wind, but not nearly as bad as what I went through in Louisiana with Katrina.
However, for folks in the Bayou state we're now hearing that they will get even more rain than they did with Katrina. Thank goodness the wind speeds are less.
Here's one of many good reasons to missing Louisiana, and to be thankful it exists:

As a California native, I just don't get the Louisiana-New Orleans fixation, but I'm glad you're doing okay and happy to hear Issac has just been down-graded to a tropical storm.
I suppose certain people are stuck on New Orleans the way some are stuck on San Francisco.
To each, his own.

I suppose certain people are stuck on New Orleans the way some are stuck on San Francisco. To each, his own. Louisiana always lives in my heart. There's no way you'd actually feel it unless you'd lived there. Or that I would have ever, either. I can think of only two other cities in the United States that have a similar belovedness in art and song, and one you mentioned, San Fransisco. The other is New York. But for an entire area, like Southern California, it's quite comparable I'd think to the feeling you get from this: It's all about love, ain't nothing wrong with that: Sometimes I think that we southerners have a stronger sense of place in our heart, and feel it more intensely. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that this song makes it clear that we are all one deep inside:
