Maybe I'm a weirdo, as Pooky (Liza Minelli) from The Sterile Cuckoo, might have said, but during the time of wonderful American radio, when there was freedom, before the days when 3 companies owned everything., and you could you could listen to music that gave you an idea of how wide and beautiful things could be, you were lucky like me.
I listened to Andy Williams and watched his TV show, and marveled at both him and Dean Martin, as they reached into something beyond us and themselves. At the same I loved the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and there was room for everything.
Now there is so much resistance to seeing things from a wider vision. If you can't imagine what it was like to hear "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procul Harem followed by Andy Williams doing the love theme from Romeo and Juliet, you will never know what the decade and radio within it was like.
I will miss him so much, because he made it seem so easy. This guy was always honest in his artistry. Even though he was a Republican he loved Bobby Kennedy through and through.
I miss those days when folks could have feelings that were beyond party and just had to do with love for a similar spirit. He was always beautiful and gracious, and we are less without him.
Goodbye Andy, I will miss you. You gave all. my huckleberry friend, and I love you. I hope to be as good a man as you someday.

I can remember the whole family gathered around the TV every Christmas season, watching Andy Williams annual Christmas show. A fond, fond memory.

I'm a member of the Andy Williams Yahoo Group, and strangely, not one person has posted there about this.

I had a wonderful time when I was still in high school working for a movie theater, and the best thing was that you got to see the movies for free, and even better, you could step in and watch just the scenes you loved best.
Now, if you're a film fan you know what a wonderful era the 70s were. It was a renaissance of film-making. And one of the films I got to discover from this glorious job was John Houston's 1972 film "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean," written by John Milius, starrring Paul Newman, and in her screen debut Victoria Principal. This is a special movie.
And the Andy Williams song made it extra-special to me.
Two of the scenes I always stepped in to watch again and again where the ones with the albino villain Bad Bob ( Stacy Keach) and this one, with Newman, Principal, and 'the Watch-Bear, with Andy Williams wonderful "Marmalade, Molasses, and Honey" as the song for the scene. You'll find it at 51:15 into this video. I've never forgotten it.
