I think this will be more deadly than the other Green Arrow.

Exciting introduction. I have a suspicion that this series is not following the timeline of the comics. We will have to hear from someone who remembers what he read to learn how Oliver is portrayed in the comics.

Here are my own personal thoughts on the show:
I watched the first 10 minutes of Arrow last night and I was very disappointed with it, it had many differences with it, I will give a brief overview with very little spoilers:
Oliver's mom is still alive but his father died while he was on the island-Wait a second, his parents died in the plane crash remember? How can his mom still be alive? They both died instantly! He has a younger sister-need I say more? The mansion that used for his home is the Luthor Mansion from Smallville-The layout is just too weird for me. Oliver is referred to as a "Millionaire" not a "Billionaire"-Uh what? He isn't just a millionaire, he is a billionaire like Lex only less evil! Oliver was on the deserted island for 5 years! What? I thought he was only gone a few weeks!

From The CW Last night's premiere of ARROW was right on target with the network's goal of broadening out and bringing new viewers to the network - it drew 4.02 million viewers, the most watched telecast on the network of any show, on any night, in three years (11/12/2009). ARROW was the most watched premiere on the network since THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (9/10/2009). This was the most watched show in the Wednesday 8PM time period in more than three years (5/13/2009) Versus last year's premiere of H8R in the time period, it more than doubled its audience (4M vs. 1.3M) and was up 57% in A18-34 (1.1/4), and 117% in A18-49 (1.3/4) The ARROW premiere also gave SUPERNATURAL a boost last night, it was SUPERNATURAL's most watched episode (2.6M) since 10/15/10, and was its best A18-34 rating since 3/4/11 (1.0/3) Last night was The CW's best Wednesday night in total viewers (3.3M) in more than two years (5/12/10) and in two years in A18-34 (1.0/3, 12/10/10) and in A18-49 (1.2/10, 10/13/10) ARROW tied NBC's original comedies in the 8-9PM hour in total viewers (4M) and in A18-34 and A18-49.

3sheets2thewind, thank you. I was not expecting this great news.
As an action hero series, I give it top ratings. I believe the series is making Arrow more violent and introducing moral dilemna that will appeal to a modern audience. I have no problem moving past the comic book character and into the 2012 revamping.
Arrow's skills are amazing and he will need them because the only people who seem trustworthy are his ex-girlfriend and his bodyguard. I am looking forward to more drama, angst, vengeance, and action.

I am surprised that I couldn't get into it, I thought I would like it but I was very disappointed.

Well, I know I'm out of the age demographic, but I just thought it was kind of silly. But if the kids like it and it gives Supernatural a boost in the ratings, then I hope it does well. I just won't be watching.

Poor CW. I think that Arrow will go the way of "The Secret Circle". Start strong. An audience is there, giving it a chance. But the story sucked, and the audience left. I hope Arrow gets better, not that I'll watch. This show lost me during it's opening scene. I forgot the guy's name. Queen? Well Queen has been marooned on an Island for 5 years, and is finally rescued. What are his thoughts on the boat back to civilization?? I can't believe how good clean sheets feel? I thought I was marooned forever? No, he's going to "clean up the city I left behind". What real person has motivations like that then? Clean up the city after readjusting to civilization. Only cliche comic book people obsess over cleaning up the city, with no other human motivation. I don't see any interesting dynamic, like I did with Clark and Lex. Then again, I bailed half way thru. Maybe it just had a slow start. The main actor was ripped though. Glad this show doesn't shy away from gratuitous display of muscles and skin. Alright, sorry to be negative if you tried to enjoy. I will be quiet now.

We had not met all of the characters half way through. I think Oliver and his bodyguard (former military guy) will make the interesting dynamic. I understand the motivation behind "clean up the city" and Oliver has been obsessed with that one thought for five years. That one thought has kept him motivated to live during five horrible years. Yeah, that's exactly what he was thinking of on the way home.

I loved this show from the first segment before the first commercial.
I understand how people may have been thrown...because of preconceived expectations...of it following the comic or following up the SMALLVILLE Oliver Queen storyline.
But it stands on its own.
Oliver's father KNEW why the boat got blown up...he had most likely been working AGAINST the forces of evil in Starling City he once supported and it caught up to him.
Oliver's father strove to change his ways...find redemption...protect the innocent...all elements of "cleaning up the city"..*smiles* which has a definite "old west" feel to it when you think of it..."he came to clean up this town"...
Oliver's father ALSO sacrificed himself to save Oliver...which HAD to IMPACT on Oliver in a profound way.
So his father's dying request reverbrated even more profoundly: Right the wrongs, save the innocent, make a difference.
At the end of five years...besides having the billions already in place to work with...he now had the skills...and thus empowered he could embark on his mission.
And now with a few shows left for this first season... already renewed for a second season... it seems like I JUST started watching and its hiatus time!!!!!
