Hi folks, sorry it has taken me so long to get through. My wonderful internet service provider, MediaCom, has done it again.
Would that they only had some competition, but no, they have have a monopoly on cable internet in my area.
Today, at about noon, my service went down. It had been up for 48 hours before that with no problem. The only way I got it back up again previously was by talking to an area supervisor last Friday night. It was up again on Saturday morning. It had been out 3 times for extended periods the week before.
I have wiped out almost all of the time on my cell phone talking to them today, and all I've gotten were jerks on the phone. The first internet tech guy I talked to told me that my 'card' had been switched from one that had 15 people on it, to one that had 6 folks on it. I asked him why, and he said that it was something they did with folks who had continual service problems to see that they got faster service. He also said that he had reported an outage in my area based on what he saw, and that someone would be dispatched to fix it within 45 minutes.
I knew enough to call back an hour later, and found that no outage had been reported in my area, and despite my constant requests to be escalated to an area manager nothing was done. The three people I talked to in that period were incredible jerks, and they basically wiped out all the time I had remaining on my cell phone, almost two hours, which was mostly spent waiting for someone to connect.
This is part of an ongoing problem. A few years ago they closed the MediaCom office in not only my town, but all of the towns they serviced in the county, and they went from a customer being able to call the local office and get help right away, to having to call a national number where you never got anyone in the area. The only office in the county is now an hour away. Not that you can actually call that office any more. The number is not available.
One month recently my internet bill was $0 because of the shoddy service. My advice? If you possibly can, stay away from them by all means. It's not worth your money or your time.
I've had it with them.
