Whoo! I got my plot-heavy episode!!
I loved
A Little Slice of Kevin, for several reasons.
I have to say, I love Mama Tran! She's such a unique character in that she is brand new to the world of the supernatural. She's so feisty but at the same time so clueless. Bad move on making a business deal with a witch. At the same time, though, she's all, "Let's take the offensive!" She's not useless, either; she was able to capture Crowley's minion by herself. I just find her fascinating and hilarious, because she is so vastly different from most of the characters we see on this show.
I laughed when she squirted Delta with holy water from a turkey baster. I can imagine her in Walmart, buying squirt guns and turkey basters, maybe some water balloons. On that same note, I have been saying since season 1 that Sam and Dean need to carry squirt guns filled with holy water, so I was ecstatic when Kevin and his momma implemented that brilliant plan. (PS- if I were a hunter, I would definitely have a super-soaker in my arsenal. I think about these things.)
My absolute favorite part of this episode was in one of Dean's flashbacks to Purgatory. When he cuts his arm, and Benny cuts his, and then they grasp forearms. When they're standing there clutching each other's arms. GUH! I know that it is totally a metaphor for their 'brother' connection, but that's not why I liked it. I actually don't know why I liked it so much. But I was just like, "Ahhh! Oh man!" ...Yeah I'm just weird.
Castiel is back! He is the luckiest damn angel in existence. He's been saved and brought back to life almost as much as the Winchesters! ...Okay that's an exaggeration. Haha silly me. But still. I loved the suspense at the beginning of the episode where Dean kept thinking he was seeing Cas and you could tell that he was wondering if his survivor's guilt was making him see things.
I got shivers and started yelling praise at my television when Castiel went all badass on Crowley. That scene, more than anything else thus far, has given me hope for the continuation of this series. I just got this fluttery feeling in my stomach and was like, "HELL YES! We're back!" Sorry I can't explain it better...
I thought it was so sad when Dean was suspicious of Castiel's inexplicable escape from Purgatory. Not that I can blame him; but there was a time when he would believe anything Cas or Sam said 100% without question. It's just so painful how much the trust between all of them has been shattered.
On another sad note, Dean talking about survivor's guilt. For
everyone. He tries to save everyone even though he can't and I suspect that he feels impossibly guilty for still being alive when practically everyone he's ever known is dead. Oh geez god I just want to give him lots of hugs.
In the realm of 'wtf?', how does a Craigslist witch get in contact with the King of Hell? .....?
The angel Samandriel gets a freaking F for giving Crowley the names of all of the future prophets. I mean, who does that?
I was happy that Sam and Dean are back to being civil. That means they're suppressing their feelings! And we all know that doesn't last long.
So I know that this is completely hypocritical, given that if I were being tortured I would probably be spilling my guts before they even drew blood. That aside, though; come on, Kevin. One pinky, and you're giving in? I honestly expected him to die before helping Crowley.
So um why did Crowley keep killing all of the potential prophets? That seems like kind of a bad plan, seeing how if they're all dead, then there will be no one to read the tablets for quite a few years. (I laughed when the woman pretended to be able to read the tablet, and Crowley turned it right-side up for her.
)
This episode did it for me. It gave me the confidence that Supernatural still has a good story left to tell. The character interactions between Sam, Dean, Castiel, and now Benny seem nice and complicated and full of angst and feels. And I was definitely intrigued by Naomi! Who is she, and how freaking powerful must she be to be able to wipe the mind of another angel? What does she want? Oh so many curious cliffhangers! Not to mention the information that more tablets exist! We're going places now, man. (At least in my opinion!)
