At least we finally get to see more about how the pendants work. We were given a false description, which was disappointing.
I hope they explain why it's not possible just to make new batteries and use them, or build generators.
Mostly I was bored.
The closest I come to liking Led Zeppelin is "Sea of Love" by The Honeydrippers and Robert Plant's duets with Alison Krauss.

Although I was surprised and puzzled that Miles and Monroe were to meet in this episode, I was still disappointed that they did not. I am not a fan of Alternate Reality or misdirection when I am really into a show. Edit: After watching "Episode 9 revealed," I understand what they were doing. They had everyone "face their worst fears" except for Charlie. They wanted to show that aspect of their character.
Anyway, I gave it a 3 because it seemed like there was not much action. I am disappointed Miles did not get the opportunity to draw his sword and slice and dice anyone. I am glad they explained how Miles' and Monroe's friendship ended. Charlie had a chance to talk to her father in her dream and Aaron's wife had a chance to nag him while he hallucinated. ;D Thank goodness Nora did not go with her sister or Charlie might have gotten blown to pieces.
Rachel, Rachel, Rachel! She has a strong survival instinct. I wonder if she would have stabbed her friend if Danny was not in danger. She needed to save herself too. And her buddy snitched about the bomb. I think her actions shocked Monroe. He probably thinks she is a genteel lady.
I think Miles and Monroe will connect next week.

When Monroe puts her life on the line, Rachel turns to murder.

Kripke uses the term 'mythic hero's journey' in terms of this episode. Joseph Campbell first defined the 'heroic journey' as it affects myths and storytelling in literature in 1949. One phase often involves going underwater and another the hero facing his own fears, both of which we saw in the latest episode.
Now, we've seen this countless times in stories before (just think Star Wars, for example), and although I applaud Kripke's salute to the heroic journey in literature, the truth is, it's been done to death, and seems trite at this point. Many of us can remember the original Star Trek episode in the 1960s when the crew was forced to face their deepest fears.
I give the first 30 minutes of this episode a D-minus for just basically treading the waters of what has gone before in so many narrative dramas, but a B-minus for the rest of the episode, which takes us up to Rachell's motive to create a bomb, rather than amplifying the power of the pendant.
This is the weakest episode I've seen so far, and it distresses me, because I know that the mid-season finale is coming up next.
And it is a perfect spot for me to remind the network ya-yahs that this is not how storytelling works. Your writers already know this. You do not destroy the forward momentum of a tv series by taking a hiatus of two to three months in the middle of the series without significant loss.
I know it's standard now, but that still doesn't make it right in terms of storytelling, and some day someone will buck this trend and leave you in the dust.
To use the parlance of the show, more power to them.

Wow.....well, that was a waste of the better part of an hour. The only good part for me was in Sebastian's office when he brought in Brad and told Rachel he didn't need her anymore. When she stabbed Brad with that screwdriver.....!?!?!?!?!?! What a cold, cold woman!! Clearly, she doesn't want Brad to actually help Sebastian and while she doesn't want her son killed, I guess she doesn't really care about Brad's daughter. Other than that, the rest (even with the militia infiltrator) was just not interesting. And to lose all their oxygen and start hallucinating so soon after the cave in......in a tunnel THAT big, just seemed silly. Alligators? Nora is afraid of alligators?

I felt bad for giving the episode a "3", but now I am absolved of any guilt. I really did feel cheated by the entire "face your fears" and "Charlie's fantasy" scenes. The only saving grace was getting an understanding of Miles and Monroe. Even though Monroe needs someone to help turn the power on, he knows he cannot trust Rachel. Therefore, I do not know if she is as safe as she thinks. Kripke promises that the next episode will give us something to wonder about that is even more amazing than what made the power turn off. I have no idea what that will be.

I found losing their oxygen to be kind of strange since there probably were other entrances.
I did like Charlie's dream.
This was my last episode until it comes back. Hopefully they'll repeat this Monday's right before they do. I was fast-forwarding and happened to see "Monday Night Football", which is on ESPN, not NBC. That can only mean one thing ...

After that disappointing episode, I'm looking forward to tonight's being really good. It had better be, since it has to hold us over until 2013.

I agree. I am going to set up the thread for tonight's episode now.

I gotta say I loved the Zeppelin music. "Kashmir" is my favorite song. And I love the idea of someone in the writers room saying "can we figure out how to make an episode where the characters get to hear some Zeppelin?"

Don't waste your time with this episode. It was total filler and a waste of an hour.
Watch the mid-season finale. THAT one was stellar.

Kyle, I agree with SoCal. Delete this one to make room on the tape and watch the last episode. It has received perfect ratings.
