I completely agree with this thread, and in that spirit there is something I'd like to mention. I feel uncomfortable about raising this, and the last thing I want to do is offend anyone, but here goes. (If this starts a furore I will delete and back off, but I'll give it a try).

I feel very uncomfortable about the Cas Sceptics thread. I always did on the other board, but it had been going long before I joined so I didn't say anything. However this board is a new start. The way I see it our aim here should be to create a nice home for we CW Lounge refugees that retains all that was best about the old board, and leaves behind all the nasty baggage.

To have a thread that is explicitly anti one character feels wrong to me, particularly when the only anti thread is against Cas. Before I go on, I don't want anyone to misunderstand my motivation for raising this. I am no big Cas fan. I like the character fine, but am pretty indifferent to his presence or absence in the show. Whether he is there or not doesn't affect my enjoyment at all. So this is not meant to be a 'lets ban all criticism of Cas' plea. I just think it doesn't show the new board in a good light. You are all probably aware that the previous board had a terrible reputation on other boards for being virulently anti-Cas. I never thought that outside of the sceptics thread the anti-Cas sentiment was that overt, but nevertheless that was how we were seen and some of what was said within that thread totally warranted that reputation IMO.

Given our new start, and the fact that Cas isn't even a regular any more, and is almost entirely written out of the show, should we continue to have an anti-Cas thread? I appreciate that the people who post there had a community within the CW Lounge. I have nothing against any of you guys that post there, and I don't want to spoil anyone's enjoyment. But could it maybe be called something else?

If I am crossing a line here, or treading on toes of people who have been around much longer than me, or if no-one else thinks this is a problem, then I will shut up.

Well Geordiegirl the fact is that Castiel is shown to be a traitor before and now after the fact. He's has earnt his reputation as a character to be skeptical and rightly so. So as we might like many enemies of the boys, Castiel is one of them. He's questions them, blamed them, beaten them, lied and manipulated them.

He was never shown to be a friend until Dean started saying how he was 'like' a brother just so they can evoke some emotion (which failed). So the 'character' himself is definately someone to hate.

I for one disliked the character because of how they wrote him with Dean and Sam (when the chose to let him speak). I don't like the character in general like some didn't like Ruby or Lisa which there were threads of these characters as well.

I'm one for actually disliking the Cas Fan Club since it seems its there to actually make Dean and Jensen look completely incompetant and stupid and disparages his character as an actor and as a person trying to do a certain job.

His character is and never will be in love with a man let alone a man that is an angel. There is no sexual tension and no love.

So this 'fan' club for a defunct character that has all but humiliated the boys as characters of their show I'm not sure belongs here or any Supernatural board. But I hardly care if it is and won't ask for it to be 'not' here.

TWOP has far the worst reputation since it is so horrible to one of the two stars of the show and the show itself and one of the characters in general if not both. So the CW was hardly the worst, it just had a thread that dared ask a question and it turned out was the RIGHT question.

Hi Benson. I have no axe to grind with you at all. You know we agree on what we believe to be the real heart of the show. And I agree with a lot of what you have posted above - particularly the bit I've bolded. But responding to my question by saying, basically, 'but Cas is a terrible character and deserves a sceptics thread' isn't really addressing the point I was making. My point wasn't directly about Cas. It was about having anti threads in general. In response to Ohleesa's point, IMO the answer absolutely isn't to have more anti threads. I would personally prefer a more positive board. Of course if the consensus is that it is right for it to be here then I will shut up .

But if you want an anti thread you have to accept it if others want a pro thread. Obviously there may be things said in the pro thread you don't like, but I'm sure Cas fans feel the same about the anti thread. We can't have a board where only one opinion on every topic is allowed. That wasn't what I was suggesting. I am just very conscious of the reputation the other board had. It put off lots of posters, and not just Cas fans.

On TWOP I totally agree. That is a truly hideous, poisonous board IMO. But it is at least even handedly negative about every character, and every aspect of the show (apart from Sam who I think it is particularly harsh on).

Anyway I was just testing the water on this, and I wondered whether there was still a need for somewhere where people could discuss how much they don't like a character who is no longer in the show. Happy to go with the majority. No offence intended Benson. Brothers all the way (see my sig - that is what I want to see)

Edit. Just thinking about what you said B. If you are arguing that Cas is now a bad guy, and he sort of is for all the reasons you say, then having an anti thread is more understandable. I don't think anyone would complain if an anti-Lucifer thread was started. The anti Cas thread on the other board long pre-dated Cas's s6 actions, so we all know it had nothing to do with him being against the boys when it started. However these days it looks less out of place. Probably if someone just wandered in here without knowing the history of the other board they would think nothing of it. So maybe I am worrying over nothing.

I would also like to add - we have known for a while I think that opinions on Cas can be particularly devisive, which I imagine the SPN Folks intend. Giving both fans and skeptics a seperate and distinct thread allows a certain amount of seperation, should a viewer choose. There are some fans who know they will be upset reading criticism of Cas, and some skeptics who don't want to see him being lusted over; this way people can simply choose to avoid what they know they don't agree with, instead of accidently running into it in a random thread about raincoats. This allows everyone to feel a little more comfortable, I feel.

i'm all for calm seas and working out our disagreements amicably since we are all individuals, we're going to have differing viewpoints about aspects of the show. some may not like the writing,some may not like the storyline or pov, and some may see scenes in a different light. it's those individual takes on things that give us such a vast array of theories and opinions. it's what makes this fandom so outstanding it's when we start taking things personally, that problems rear their ugly head. hopefully, we can all follow benson and geordiegirl's example in resolving any disagreement, should one come up

Thank you for posting this thread from just a month after we started, Aeryn. It was good for me to see this. It makes me miss so many people who were there then at the beginning, and are not here now.

We began with such a noble mission--just to keep all of our people together. I don't think any of us will ever forget that.
