What do you think, Keemosabe? "Something very wrong with that horse." Yay Silver!

Johnny Depp isn't an actor, he's a buffoon.

Why are they doing this? I loved The Lone Ranger TV series and now it does seem like it might be silly.
Of course, I am only saying that because Depp plays so many silly roles. He might fool us and the movie will be worthwhile. Jerry Bruckheimer shows are not usually silly.

Yeah, you have a point. I watch kiddie movies, but Transformers is too juvenile even for me.

I hope they do right by the Lone Ranger. I have to say that the scene of Trigger in a tree is like nothing else I've ever seen cinematically, though.

I am glad you mentioned the horse in a tree because I wondered what prompted Tonto's comment. I watched several times and still totally missed it. I thought the horse's name was "Silver" because on TV, Lone Ranger would say something like "Ay O, Silver - Awayyyy!" Scenes like that are really funny and I would love to see more of those in the movie.

Johnny Depp has been doing silly accents for so long, he can't even "talk American" anymore! I'll be waiting for the American Indian protest of the movie. 'We no talk that way!' Depp's make-up looks like a strange mix of Jack Sparrow and Braveheart.

Speaking of protest, my first inclination was to post the "no saddle" joke here, but I thought someone might protest.

A woman from New York was driving through a remote part of Arizona when her car broke down.
A Navajo on horseback came along and offered her a ride to a nearby town.
She climbed up behind him on the horse and they rode off. The ride was uneventful, except that every few minutes the Indian would let out a Ye-e-e-e-h-a-a-a-a' so loud that it echoed from the surrounding hills.
When they arrived in town, he let her off at the local service station, yelled one final 'Ye-e-e-e-h-a-a-a-a!' and rode off.
'What did you do to get that Indian so excited?' asked the service-station attendant.
'Nothing,' the woman answered. 'I merely sat behind him on the horse, put my arms around his waist, and held onto the saddle horn so I wouldn't fall off.'
'Lady,' the attendant said, 'Indians don't use saddles.'

Scenes like that are really funny and I would love to see more of those in the movie. You're right. It's supposed to be Silver. Trigger was Roy Rogers' horse.

Seems like I waited a long time for this movie to arrive. I got up very early and went to a 9:30 AM show.
I had doubts when I first saw the cast line-up back in October. The doubts have been removed. I loved the movie! It is not a comedy with drama thrown in. In my opinion, it is a drama that makes good use of humor.
Pros Opening scene drew me into the storyline. Origin of the Lone Ranger was kept in tact. The Lone Ranger was loveable. William Tell Overture. Silver was an exceptional horse. Tonto was magnificent. Humor was well placed. Action scenes. Extended William Tell Overture. More humor. More action. Sharpshooter. The females were feminine. No dull moments.
Cons 2-1/2 hours went by too quickly.

I am SO VERY glad to hear that!
I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted this movie to be successful!
Vindication for yet another childhood hero!
I read William Tell as a child...and listened to the music from the opera...
...but...
I still thought the Lone Ranger was cooler!

I felt a thrill when The Lone Ranger pushed Silver to a sprint and the music started to play. People in the theater applauded.

Listened to tapes of the radio program... I had some of the COMIC BOOKS... ...but for me...comic books were always for reading... So I read them...so did my siblings and anybody else who wanted to... I need to see this movie! *thinks* ...Hey... Was this all part of your plan?

It would be fun to discuss it with you. There are some "pros" I did not list because I did not want to give even a clue about them.

And thank-you good Captain for the trip down memory lane!
I read all of your posted comic examples...except for the bottom one...loooong time ago...
And of course, the TV show intro...
...and the poster is cool!
Whoever made Lone Ranger movies in the past did not "get it" it seems...
He and Tonto stood for something. Deliberately and on purpose stood for something.
And they had charisma.
ASTOUNDING ANGEL has given me hope that this newest movie has got it right!

The professional critics were slamming the movie before it was even released and they continue to do so. I am pretty sure they hurt attendance.
On Twitter, regular fans like me say they enjoyed the movie. Of course, those are the people who actually went to the theaters.
