Throughout the years...our pets have helped us through many things in our lives.
Who were they? What were their names?
Share the memories of those grand companions.

I had a dog named Tramp when I was a baby (it had been my dad's dog for awhile, he was a mixed breed). I wasn't the healthiest baby around, but from what my parents said, it was like he was my protector. Every night he would sleep under my crib. If my parents came to check on me, he would look up at them as if he was telling them I was sleeping. If I was crying and my parents didn't hear my cries (it wasn't very loud to begin with, or so I'm told) he would literally get up and go to my parents' door and bark. He never left my side. Sadly, he had to be put to sleep when I was 5.
I had a few dogs since then...
We had a pair of yorkies. We bred them twice (the second time was not intentional). Brandon and Dee Dee. We got to keep one of the puppies, Oh, Mimi was one of the best dogs around. She used to fall asleep in my chest every time I held her.
Currently, at my Dad's house, we have Missy, another yorkshire terrier. It's more my Uncle's dog, but I would argue that she's the most obedient dog I've ever known (well, besides Krypto and Shelby of course).

My mother grew up with cats and dogs and my dad grew up with dogs, cats and a pair of squirrels. I have only had one pet in my entire life and that was a pug named Samantha but we called her Sam for short. You see, my parents had a boxer puppy named Bruiser for a number of years and he kept running away so they adopted Sam from a friend of theirs and she was with my family and me until I was about 3 1/2 years old when her heart just gave out on her. I have a few memories of her like playing in her water bowl and food dish and dropping down food from my high chair down to the floor where she would gobble it up hungrily. She wasn't a playful dog since she hadn't been played with she really didn't know how to play and plus she didn't know how to deal with small babies and toddlers very well either because she was extremely jealous of me. I am told that she used to crawl under my crib and let out a low woof and it would wake me up out of sound sleep and mom finally decided that this simply wouldn't do so Sam never slept in my room after that. Sam was not much of a barker but she had a huge presence in the neighborhood, for instance there was a huge German shepherd at least 5 times her size yet he would bark and bark who was across the street from us but if Sam was in our front door, all she had do was look at him and he would be terrified to move from his spot or even bark until Sam was moved out of the way. I vaguely remember Sam licking me a few times, she did like to lick you if she really loved you. I am going to enclose a family photo of my parents, me and of course Sam. Since then I haven't had any pets but I would love to have a cat or a dog that would keep me company during the times I am alone. I don't really know why my dad never really wanted me to have a pet after Sam, don't get me wrong I am super responsible and caring but for whatever reason my dad never let me have a pet. I have pet-sat a few times and that has been fun for me and I always make sure I take good care of the animals put under my care and whatnot. I wouldn't mind having another pet, I think mom may consider it once our finances get situated which I hope we can. Well that is some of my memories and thoughts on pets and whatnot!

I grew up around dogs, but never learned to train them. When I was 26, my dog's name was Velvet. He had a beautiful coat of black hair that was the texture of velvet and had a white stripe down his forehead. The most interesting thing about Velvet was that he was an escape artist. No matter what we did, he would escape the yard and follow me. Sometimes I would be all the way to the bus stop before I realized he had stealthily followed me. Then, I would have to walk back home to return him to the yard. He never wanted me to leave him, but I had to work!
