Hey all!
Figured this was the best place to share, here in the SPN forum. Since it is sort of - roughly - in a general way - related to Supernatural.
All starting back in the old CWL, with a link someone posted to the Kickstarter page for "Divine: The Series". I decided to kick in a few bucks, because I wanted to support the crew of SPN who were in the process of filming a story of their own. And Misha was to be one of the cast...so I couldn't resist. ;D
Then I wondered "do they have someone to do the graphic design needs?" and "what the heck, why not ask, all they can do is say no" and sent an email. Long story short, a few months later I became their graphic designer.
So that's what I've been up to, the past year and a half. Ivan himself outed me on Twitter as their designer, after I did the new website for Divine - www.divinetheseries.com so it's not such a big secret anymore. Hee!
From there I've been a part of development for new series concepts: one of which is "After", which filmed in August. So exciting to fly up and be a part of production!!!! Meeting in person all the people I had been working with for so many months. They are all super-creative, multi-talented, and all-around awesome guys. And of course, they put me to work as the BTS photographer, no slacking and hanging around allowed. LOLOL!! One of the shots you can see on After's Facebook page in the photo section, OMG that was so funny. Robin Dunne - the main actor, played Will on Syfy's Sanctuary - was lying on the pavement all bloody in this one scene, so Ivan said "Get a shot of him like that!" So I walked over and stood next to him to take the pic and Ivan was like "No, a straight-on shot"....so I had to STRADDLE poor Robin as he was lying there playing dead, and leaned over for the shot. I whispered "Robin I'm so sorry!" and took a couple really good pics. HAHAHAHA I was so embarrassed: Robin might be used to having people get all up close and personal like that every day, but I'm not used to it!!
Anyway, it was an amazing experience, intense and SO BUSY. Shooting schedule was for 10-12 hours, one day we did 14. So I completely understand the rigors of working on the set of Supernatural now, it isn't an easy job for anyone.
But we all were having such a great time, the hours flew by and we were all so energized I bet we could have gone on all night. Filming was in the old Arundel Hotel, where Supernatural shot an episode or two. In fact, the studios were only a mile or so away...I WAS supposed to go out and spend a day on set with SPN while I was in Vancouver, but that plan got ruined when a small group of crazy-fangirls from VanCon literally DUG their way under the back fencing, and were caught as they were heading towards J2's trailers. Can you imagine!!! So the set was locked down, and anyone not immediately part of the cast or crew or admin got booted. So I couldn't go....Jason says maybe next time I'm up with them, things will have calmed down and back to normal so I can get my chance to spend a day hanging out on SPN.
If you want to see a few of the pics I took for "After", go here: www.facebook.com/AfterTheSeries/photos_stream and for the particular photo I took of Robin, I emailed it to him so he could tweet it himself: I hope everyone with a Facebook account "Likes" After and Divine, and follows the cast & crew on Twitter! Some tweet more than others, but everyone is really great and I love my guys all to pieces, they are such brilliant and super-nice people.
I have HUNDREDS more photos, but they're slowly being released a bit at a time, to keep people's interest up until the episodes are finished: they're in post-production now.
So that's about it! Right now it's sort of slow, as everyone is finishing up on SPN and getting ready for the holidays. But next year looks like it will be filled with lots more production, and I can't wait to be a part of the action! So much fun!!!!! I hope I can share bits of the adventure with you, but no secrets or spoilers! Because surprise and discovery is much more fun.
