Got an email today from NBC...a "sorry to tell you this but" letter about the network's decision to end all its message boards. I guess I got the email because I had been a member of the Heroes Board when that series was on the air. Exact same speech as we got from the CW when our CWL closed down...the era of boards is over, the new and improved way to chat with fellow fans is on Facebook, and here is the app Zeebox you should use "..to enhance your TV-watching experience. Invite your friends and frenemies to join in private chats while you all watch the show. Think of it like message boards, only in real time!" Uh, sorry, no...it isn't at all like message boards. Not Facebook, not twitter, and not Zeebox. Even though I have long since vacated the Heroes boards, it still was nice to think that I had that sort of resource available to me for other series should I wish to join. And now there won't be a central community for the fans of NBC shows to gather in anymore. So I'm guessing there's a lot of fans out there right now that are feeling the pain and loss like we were last year, losing their homes and getting roughly booted out into the cold. Scrambling around trying to save contacts and asking "where do we go now?" Angry at the network's idea of forcing everyone over to Facebook or an app as fair trade for the boards. So if you run across any fans of NBC series who are wandering around out there on the 'net, with shell-shocked expressions as they try to cope with getting evicted from their board homes, perhaps offer them comfort and help point them to places like here. We've been there, we understand.

Why do they do this at Christmas?
Thank you so much, Ani, for letting us know about this.
To me, FaceBook and Twitter are just too hugely skewed to ever create community in the way that a forum can. Those are aimed more at the individual than a community of fans. It also saves big dollars for the network in not having to pay folks to oversee those forums.
I think it's more about dollars and the ability to in a very one-sided way get your marketing message out without having to respond to your active fans when they don't neccesarily agree with your vision. In other words, we don't want your feedback.
Like you said, we have been through this. I think this is a great opportunity to reach out to folks like us who have been left high and dry.
If you'd like to be part of a special support team to reach out to the NBC forum members, complete with your own forum section, please let us know. We'll also be looking for Twitter and FaceBook support.
And, of course, if you simply want to post ideas and support here in this thread to folks, please do so.
Thanks again, Ani, for letting us know about this.
Could you possibly post the email you got from NBC? How long do they have before their forums die?

Sound familiar? Oh yes, such caring and thoughtful network people, closing down something so obsolete as a message board and helping us into the new and exciting age of discussing shows on a Facebook page! And here, an app that is almost exactly the same as a message board, but better! Wheeee! This makes me LOL the most: "First off, we’d like to thank you for being one of the most engaged TV fanbases online. We’ve had the greatest pleasure reading and sharing your message board conversations over the years." I'm sure they've had the greatest pleasure! Not!!! In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny: "What a bunch of maroons"

Effective immediately, huh?
What incredible JERKS.
Who knew that the 'CW method' of ending fan relationships would ever gain groundwork with those who think and feel?
The folks they did this to are our comrades.

I bet the fans on those boards didn't even get the small amount of time we had to jump online and try to grab as many contacts as they could before it all went dark. What a sucky Christmas present for all the active and engaged fans of your shows, NBC. Merry Christmas, and your home is gone. Cya on Facebook.

It's also an interesting coincidence that both networks' forums had been hacked a short time before they closed down. Hmmm.

NBC DID give us Star Trek in the 60s!! then they cancelled it, and let it grow in re-runs!!! then 40 years later, they introduced us to Zachary Quinto- who would become THE Mr Spock of a new generation!!! and let's not forget Howie Mandel!!!
