From a newspaper column:
"He requested his daughter mail it back to him, which she agreed to with no hint of confusion. 'Then she calls (my wife) to ask her how to mail a letter,' the colleague said, noting that his wife had to explain about putting the address in the middle, her return address in the upper left corner. 'She asked, "Do I put his name on it?" She wanted to know if she could just take the card to the post office and have them mail it.'"

What worries me is not that she didn't know how regular mail in this digital age... but that in this digital age, she didn't even bother using Google to figure it out.

Kids will never know what records were (thus spawning the radio "disc jockeys).
Kids will never know what it was like to get on a plane without being strip seached first.
Kids will never again take typewriting classes in high school.
Kids will not know what a sliderule is for.

Kids will never know what a mix tape is and therefore never have a cassette player to play them!

Kids will never know what a mix tape is and therefore never have a cassette player to play them! Pah, everyone knows what a mixtape is. It's this MP3 player, right ...? Also, the library sends postcards to people who don't have proof of address to get an account. We are instructed to fill out the postcards ourselves, because when the patrons do it they tend to write in the wrong place, forget to include their name, forget to include everything else, or otherwise make a general mess of it.

Wow. Now I am wondering if young people ever learn to fill out a check or money order. Maybe they will do everything on line, but a checking account number is usually requested.

I don't pay bills on-line. I'm too afraid of hackers getting my bank/business info. Until forced, I will continue to pay bills by check and USPS.

One thing that I am not crazy about is the fact that writing in cursive may have been dropped from the school curriculum when that is all that I ever write in. It has always been better looking compared to my printing anyways. God bless you always!!! Holly

Kids will not know what a sliderule is for. I have been patiently waiting for one of our adults to admit not knowing what it is for either. I know, but never learned to calculate with it.

I don't know whether this comic strip is online, and even if it was, it's so old it might not still be. I'm way behind on the local paper.
A teenager says this thing is broken. He can't change the font size or rotate the screen. His mother informs him that's a book.

Cursive isn't taught in school anymore??? From what I understand, Proofs and Theorems aren't taught in Geometry anymore either. No wonder kids today have difficulty following and/or acting independently in a logical progression of thought and tasks.

I know, but never learned to calculate with it.I almost had to use it for my first semester of organic chemisty. Then the professor told us that his peers were letting their students use calculators so he was going to go along with "the new trend." He did say, however, that on each exam, we had to show our work and not just the answers. Slide rules just took too long to use.

What can I say? The only names I recognized are the ones in your post.*** When I volunteered at a local elementary school, none of the children knew the purpose of the hop-scotch design that was painted on the playground.

I know that all of my Sunday School kids have grown up with video games and they look at me surprised that I didn't have many video games until a few years ago!

True story: Kid looks at an album that is playing. "What music is that?" Me: "It's from Les Miserables" " She listens to music from plays! He, he." Me: "It's the same as you buying the CD soundtrack from your favorite movies." " Oh! "

Another true story: The day after George Harrison died, I was in the little kitchen at work looking at the newspaper. A front office employee walked in and I remarked, "You know you're getting older when it's your music icons that are dying. I can't believe George Harrison is dead." She: "Who's George Harrison?" Me: "Get out before I throw my coffee at you."

, I read a story the other day in our local paper that records and record players were coming back into fashion. It said that it was mostly college kids and young adults were the ones interested in them and that they enjoyed the Quality of the sound better with vinyl as opposed to a MP3 player. My daughter had a cell phone before I did, and she doesn't understand how I manage my life without constantly looking at mine.

I had tweeted about an article I read, about VFX editing tools that add film grain and light bleed into digital projects. I was laughing about how in this new age of super-high 1080/4K crystal-clear resolutions, filmmakers are adding back traditional film effects. I made the comment that "Mama took my Kodachrome away" and Paul Simon is now laughing somewhere. One of my tweeps asked "what's Kodachrome?" and I felt very old and sad. Even worse: she didn't recognize that famous song quote.
