Do kids go to libraries for research and just to borrow books anymore? I take my kids almost weekly. I think it is great for them to get into books.

Will kids know the dubious pleasure of locating a reference using the Dewey Decimal System? Books in our libraries are filed by Author, Title.

Will kids ever go walking anywhere with their heads up, looking at the scenery or are we raising a generation who will always be hunched over their cell phones, texting?
Sad.

I saw that happen when I was going to Lancaster to see a play at the Sight and Sound theater and the kids were too buys playing their PSPs that they didn't recognize that they were seeing things they won't see anywhere else such as Amish people driving a buggy or some of the places we went by and more!

Young people will nver know how good a french fry at McDonald's used to be before the food nazis made them change the type of oil they used for frying.

And they'll never know how much fun it was to constantly adjust the rabbit ears on the tv.

Or have their dads on the roof of the house adjusting the antenna while yelling down to you, "Is this better or worse?" for about 1/2 hour until they finally got a decent picture on the tube.

Kids will never know how much fun it was to ride their bikes with the wind blowing their hair since the safety nazis have made them wear stupid plastic helmets, elbow guards and knee guards.

That's still possible, actually. It's probably the exception rather than the rule these days. Most people are hooked up to cable or sattelite.

Young people might see their dad on top of the roof trying to steal cable or satellite feed from the neighbors.

A newspaper column I saw yesterday has the opposite problem: an older person didn't know there was a difference between emailing and texting, which young people prefer.

Remember the good old days when gas was less than 50 cents gallon and a guy would come to you in your car and fill up your tank for you, wash the windshields and check your tire pressure....even check your oil level, if you wanted. All that for .30 a gallon. Now you're lucky if the guy behind the foot-thick glass window understands enough English to give you correct change.
