Evicted ProBoards V5 Betazone Test Board Now Up!

If you've been wondering what ProBoards v5 is going to be like, the Evicted ProBoards Betazone test board is now up and running, so you can take it for a test drive!

Now this is board is only a temporary copy of our v5 Evicted board. It is not our new forum. But you can try out all the features, kick the tires, and get familiar with it, and, of course, post, as well. However any content posted will be lost at the end of BetaZone.

Once you log in (with your current username and password) you'll be prompted to create a global account to access the board. Once you create your global account you will link it to the new BetaZone test board. (Note: just like when you created your first Evicted account, you will receive an activation code, so be sure to use an email account that you can access, because that's where your activation code will be sent.)

Be sure to use your username, not your display name, should you have one.

Of course, we want you to give feedback here about what you like and what you don't like. And since this is a BetaZone test board there will undoubtedly be a few bugs, so please report those as you see them.

Can we use attachments on that board?

Hi, Aeryn.

Thanks to you we are currently researching this issue. As you may know we currently have a no attachments policy at The Evicted, as we want to reserve that storage space and bandwidth for future improvements to the board via HTML.

Attachments and IMG inserts work differently. Whereas attachments put constant demands on the ProBoards servers, an IMG post (such as you'd do with Photobucket) does not, as it's only a link to where that graphic is stored on another website.

In version 5 we will have an attachment limit of 200 MB per month. If we want to purchase more attachment space we can. 500 MB per month, for example, costs $3 per month, 800 MB is $6 per month, and so on, up to a limit of 10,000MB for $73.50 per month.

Among the staff, we have not even begun to talk about attachments in v5 yet, but we certainly will, now that you've brought up the issue.

We may possibly decide to hold on to the 200 MB storage space that's hosted for free in order to have future space for HTML improvements, but I doubt we'd have any problem with someone who wanted to pay the $3 per month to purchase 300 MB per month of storage space for their own attachments.

I'm still thinking most folks will go for the free image hosting on sites like PhotoBucket.

If we do decide to make a part of our 200 MB per month storage space available to individual members we'll let everyone know. Just be aware that it would be a finite thing. Once we reached a certain point of storage space for member attachments we'd have to shut it down unless someone stepped up to the plate and wanted to fund more of them.

But hey, please feel free to go over to The Evicted BetaZone test board and try out the attachments feature.

You know, Aeryn, it's really weird to be back in the same spot we were one year ago this past December, trying to set things up and see how they work.

I agree, the marquee text function is

AWESOME

and I'm sure that if it isn't standard in v5 that someone will make a plug-in for it.

Yes, I saw your post over there in the Shipper-Free Smallville Forum, Marshall, and responded to it.

We are actually elegible for upgrade to v5 now, however we want to give ProBoards time to work out more of the bugs first and give our members more time to get familiar with it before we convert the board.

I like the "update status" feature under profile. Easy to change current status every 5 minutes.

Also the scrolling "news" stream.

That's correct. Instead of 100x100 pixels they can be 150x150 in v5.

'New Board' sounds like we're moving again...

It's still going to be the same board, it's just an upgrade. This is just the testing phase of our upgrade to explore new features and find any bugs, if there are any. We will be upgrading soon, hopefully.

Glad you're checking out the new ProBoards v5 features on our BetaZone test forum and getting familiar with things!

When we convert the board to V5 you'll log into the new board just as before, with your own username. If you haven't created a global account yet, you'll be prompted to do that. If you have done that already you'll go straight to the v5 version of our board.

I'm guessing that the avatar info you currently have in your profile will remain there as well, because it looks like everyone who has posted on the test forum has their current avatar.

Just a reminder--everything posted only in the test forum will be erased when we convert this board. Everything posted here, however, will show up on the v5 upgrade board.

Hi folks, this recent post in ProBoards Support by Patrick Clinger tells a little more about improvements to the video and audio features in v5.

"It's been a while since we've revealed any new v5 features, so I thought I would let you all in on another one

We're adding a tag. In v4.5, we already have a [youtube] tag that is specific for YouTube videos, but there is no way to include videos from other sources. Now we're bringing in functionality to support a whole host of video sites all under one single tag.

The tag is simple. You just type and your video shows up. It will auto-detect which web site you are trying to embed a video from and automatically generate the correct code to display the video from that page.

Right now there are over a dozen different video sites that are supported. Here's our current list of supported sites:

•Colbert Nation.com

•College Humor

•Comedy Central

•Dailymotion

•GameTrailers.com

•Google Video

•Hulu

•IGN.com

•Justin.tv

•MegaVideo

•Metacafe

Next, I'd like to introduce you to the new tag. This tag works similarly to the tag in that it supports different ways to include audio into your posts.

Currently this tag supports two methods for including music:



•Direct URL to mp3 file (e.g. )

•Grooveshark:
•Widget URL for single songs

•Embed code for playlists
