Does the bible count? I guess I'm asking because it has impacted me even when I didn't know it at the time. One of my very first memories and possibly the first memory I can even remember is of my Grandmother reading me the bible.
A Prayer for Owen meany has also impacted me, the book was so moving. I still just may watch Simon Birch if I can find it.
The Nancy Drew series (I forget the first book I've read, though), my Great-Grandmother would send me those books, it sparked my love for reading, and sparked my curiosity, which in turn, sparked my love of learning. Nancy Drew was my role model as a kid.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

The Bible also impacted me and my life, it helps give me advice and encouragment when I feel weak and helpless.
Anne of Green Gables series, Anne Shirley reminded me a lot of me, she was teased a lot about her looks and yet she remained a good friend and even though she had misadventures she was still spunky about it all.
The Mandie series, Mandie reminds me of me, she had a lot of adventures and even though she doesn't look Cherokee she is proud of her background which made me proud too because I used to think I didn't look Native American either but I learned from my special aunt at church that I do have an Indian nose of the Cherokee tribe so that made me proud of it.
Lucky Man-Michael J. Fox's misadventures in a lot of ways reminded of me and even though I have never acted professionally or had any siblings like he does, I could relate to some of his misadventures such as not being challenged in school and not doing well in math like him.
Nancy Drew series as well-Nancy's love and support for her friends Bess and George and her father Carson and dearest Hannah reminded me of how much adventures can happen anywhere if you just take the time to look and it's all in the small details, sometimes I notice the things people neglect and I guess because of her noticing the things often forgotten made me realize I wasn't alone in this way of thinking.
A Little Princess-taught me that all girls are a princess even though we may not have a drop of royal blood in us, we are still special regardless of how we live, we are truly important and someday we'll be rewarded for all our hard work.
The Secret Garden-showed me that sometimes beauty is hidden away but if we really take the time to look we can find it, we can find friendships and become better people in the end
That is just a small sample but I am sure there are others that have impacted me, I'll post those as I am able to recall them!

One major book that impacted me was a prayer for owen meany it was such an emotional inspiring novel and Owen meany is such a brave character I think in our book club we should shoot for novels like that--ones that affect you long after you read them. I think we've done great so far. I'll never forget A Prayer for Owen Meany , The Help, or The Great Gatsby, and the same goes for our newest selection The Stand by Stephen King. I should mention a couple of my other favorite authors who also wrote books that affected me the same way. Pat Conroy is one, and I think he just might be my favorite southern author who is alive today. Many of his books have been turned into movies: The Great Santini, The Water is Wide, The Lords of Discipline, and The Prince of Tides. But his 1995 novel Beach Music affected me most. It's just brilliant and will not let you go. It's all about family, and what we deal with and sacrifice for. It's haunting in a way that only a southern author can write. Thankfully a college class on Ernest Hemingway finally exposed me to a novel that literally changed literature when it came out. Like most of us I had to read The Old Man and the Sea, which won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1953, but it is his first novel The Sun Also Rises that stands foremost in my memory. Unforgettable characters and a new style of writing that riveted you to the page. And probably my favorite ending line of any novel. It's a masterpiece.

The giver impacted me because I found Jonas a hero he refused to conform to allow that society's choices to affect what he knew was right and in the end he made a courageous stand for his beliefs and the innocent child
