This explains a lot about Cora. But it does change the Rumpelstiltskin story.
I was worried Mr. Gold might actually die. But I feel good about Cora dying instead. She was just too evil.
I'm glad Snow couldn't do it, but I'm so confused.

This was a very good episode. The characters' histories are so entangled that there is no way to know who are related through either blood or alliance.
I remember how bitter Rumpelstiltskin was about love when Belle was nice to him. His wife deserted him and now we know his heart was broken by Cora. No wonder he was bitter. That was a touching scene when Mr. Gold was talking to Belle on the phone and then when he clutched his son's hand.
I did not think for one moment that Snow would go through with using the candle on Cora's heart, but she did. So technically, Snow did cause Cora's death by telling Regina to put the cursed heart back into Cora's body. Regina has no right to be angry and vengeful because she and her mother were planning to make Rumpelstiltskin kill Emma and the grandparents so Regina could keep the kid.
One thing I do not understand is why Snow and Emma have any type of magical power. I don't remember where they obtained it.
