Kevin Williamson's controversial serial killer drama, "The Following," starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, has been renewed for Season 2 -- no surprise, seeing as it's the only bona fide midseason hit from any of the major networks.
"From the very beginning, we felt Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega had created a high-quality, edge-of-your-seat drama that could break from the pack, and it is exciting to see the audience responding," says Kevin Reilly, FOX's Chairman of Entertainment. "Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have given us two of the most compelling characters on television and the entire cast is incredible. I'm delighted to have this thrill ride continue on FOX for another season."

Glad to hear it's been renewed, but I hope that doesn't mean they're going to stretch this particular storyline out for 2 seasons.
I would like to see them reach a resolution at the end of the season and start a new storyline next season.
Your thoughts?

If the season is 20+ episodes (I have not checked that), the storyline definitely needs to end with season 1. Some of the followers could carry over into next season for continuity. If Roderick survives, which I seriously doubt, he could be a different type of cult leader. It would be fascinating if Joey has the serial killer gene and it is kickstarted by being in proximity to the other followers. He could become their child mesiah. Don't get me wrong, I like Joe Carroll and he is believable, but stretching his story out for another season would certainly make all of the agencies appear useless.

I'm hoping they found out they were being renewed too late to extend this current story into another season.

I hope so too. There are 7 episodes left for season 1. That is plenty of time to complete Joe's story arc.
