Hello Moon Unfortunately....I must say that no one will ever fill the shoes of Carson. The Tonight Show has long since gone. I cannot figure out how Leno manages to get the top rating...as he is a loveless and ignorant boob. Fallon may have had many a success....but I just cannot see it. It reminds me of some kind of storybook fable where a blind king ( Lorne ) tries to appoint a fatherless boy upon a throne. Tina Fey seems much more worthy to try and take this spot. ...anybody but Fallon....my apologies.

I LOVE Fallon! He always seems so real with his guests. And he is just adorkable Tina Fey seems much more worthy to try and take this spot. ...anybody but Fallon....my apologies. I like Tina too. How come there are no late night women hosts? Chelsea Handler doesn't count

I like Tina but can't see her in the role.
I can't stand Fallon, the movie "Fever Pitch" being the exception.
I like Leno. I don't watch the show but when there are prime-time specials I watch them.

But Jimmy Fallon has something incredibly special that I didn't realize till just a few days ago, as I haven't followed his TV show. It's an amazing combination of of comedy and musicianship that we haven't seen the likes of since John Belushi. Plus he has the skills that Carson had to bring out the best in people. 'Late Night executive producer Lorne Michaels concedes as much: "I'm not allowed to say it—yet. But I think there's an inevitability to it. He's the closest to Carson that I've seen of this generation." Jimmy Fallon is able to create magic. And it seems like he doesn't neccesarily want to be the star of it, he just wants to be a part of it, and others get caught up in his enthusiasm. Like Carson and Groucho, he is unique. More than anything else he loves to see others shine. You don't see that often. Don't miss it. P.S. I agree with you about Leno. He's a boob. I still can't believe NBC snatched the Tonight Show gig back from Conan and gave it to Leno. No wonder they're in 5th place. The CW just may beat them in the ratings soon if things keep going the way that they are.

I agree with you my friend.
NBC has made some bonehead moves in the recent past, but bringing Jimmy Fallon in, and Lorne Michaels to produce The Tonight Show, along with returning it to New York City, is the kind of programming we haven't seen since the days of Johnny Carson and Fred De Cordova.
Why the hell do we have to wait till 2014?

Is this decision about Jimmy...or is it about Lorne?

Is this decision about Jimmy...or is it about Lorne? It's a two-fer. Lorne has been producing Fallon's Late Show and will take on production of The Tonight Show as well. When you look at it, this is an amazing time in late night network TV. All but one one of the major players (David Letterman) is from Saturday Night Live: Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, and Jimmy Fallon. When we were upset about about how NBC treated Conan, little did we know that a new generation was arising, all formed in the same comedy nexus, and most surprisingly, all friends of one another. This is a different kind of battle, one in which there are no rules (except who is the funniest) and where anything can happen. Lorne, the same guy who created the Not Ready for Prime Time Players in 1975, has set the networks on end. It's a whole new ballgame now, and we all stand to win, thanks to the vision that one man had in 1975. Heck, the the Beatles almost got back together for him. Go Lorne, and go Jimmy (both of them) and go Conan, too!
