We all secretly love flashmobs, don't we? We either want to see one or be a part of it.
What's your favorite flash mob video?
Here's an amazing one I saw today which recreates a Rembrandt painting in an Amsterdam shopping mall, to mark the opening of an exhibit at a Dutch museum.

I like that one.
I don't have a video clip but around Christmas a flash mob started caroling in a mall. I liked that one.
My son likes the ones with good dancing.

Strangely enough, I'd been planning to add a Christmas shopping mall flash mob video today. I wonder if it's the same one?

Here's an amazing one I saw today which recreates a Rembrandt painting in an Amsterdam shopping mall, to mark the opening of an exhibit at a Dutch museum. That is the most remarkable bit of advertising I have ever seen. Strangely enough, I'd been planning to add a Christmas shopping mall flash mob video today. I wonder if it's the same one? Fantastic! The choir sang beautifully. The expressions on people's faces, especially those of the young people, were filled with awe. If anyone in that mall was suffering a bad day, I am certain their spirits were lifted after hearing the song.

Just to be fancy, in the non-profit sector we always called it 'marketing' rather than advertising, but you're right, Anti, it's the same thing. I love the idea of bringing art into the streets like that. It comes to you, rather than you going to it, and that, hopefully, reminds us of not only of its transformative power, but also that the same power lives inside each and every one of us. Look at the difference this flashmob made in the spirits of those waiting in an unemployment office in Spain:

That is so very nice. People in unemployment lines - smiling! Wonderful. While I am in the thread, I am going to watch the marketing video again.

OMG! I have so many things I want to do today and I cannot stop watching flash mob videos because I am enjoying them so much!
It did occur to me that maybe I should post one.

Just beautiful. And what makes that flashmob presentation even more special is the reason it was done. "Kim MacGregor organized this flash mob of 200 dancers to launch the "feel good" movement, "I Believe She's Amazing" in honor of her friend Erika Heller who passed away May 28th, 2009 at 31 yrs. old...this is her living legacy. The amazing choreographers and dancers pulled this together in just one-6 hr rehearsal the day before the shoot." When you see the website Kim put up as a tribute to her friend you'll have tears in your eyes. www.ibelieveshesamazing.com/It's purpose is noble--to pay it forward and recognize one million other amazing women.

Flashmob presentations are wonderful on a large audience, but how about when it's done for just one person?
Look at the expression on this girl's face at 3:05 into the video when she realizes her friends and relatives are joining in, and that it's all for her, and then breaks into tears.

Flash mobs for one person are the premise of the Fox TV series "Mobbed" starring Howie Mandel.
I thought it was a ridiculous idea but it's in its second season. Every episode is fun to watch, especially since there's usually some crisis that will supposedly prevent the episode from ever airing.

The magic happens about 3:06 into this one when he suddenly rushes out to join the other dancers and she finally realizes what's going on:

I have a season pass for Howie Mandel's series on my TiVo. Problem: it's for the channel which Monday became my CW affiliate. I don't think I can change the season pass to my former CW channel until the show is actually about to air.
Same for "Glee".
