So, there are only 3 episodes left and the cult is beginning to have problems. Looks like Roderick wasn't the most stable person to leave in charge and then take his power away.
What's going to happen??

Joe: I'm having a really bad day." What does a sociopath like Joe do when he is having a really bad day? We have seen what he does when he is having a good day.

The episode gets a 5 from me. I loved it from beginning to end. Joe and Roderick’s argument over Joe’s betrayal was exciting and revealing. Roderick dedicated his life to Joe ever sense Joe was his academic advisor. His feeling of anger and betrayal caused Roderick to snatch Joey even though he later realized that was a bad move on his part. When Mike Weston recognized Roderick, I thought he was contacting someone, but he tried to handle it on his own. Glad he was not killed – although I keep expecting it to happen. Roderick turned out to be more than an organizer; he is also a cold-blooded killer and thought nothing of shooting those officers. That poor girl was lucky the police showed up. Roderick is another follower who had a nice family background. All those times that Ryan and his partner went on rogue trips set me up to believe he really was leaving alone with Roderick. Well played. They really fooled me until I saw the other agents ducked down in the car. I don’t mean to be picky, but that was not the first time Ryan turned his back to a follower to tend to Joey. I don’t understand that, but Mike was quick to cover him this time. It always seems like it takes their back-up a long time to get there though. Claire also fooled me. Maybe I was naïve tonight, but I was thinking it was possible Claire would appease Joe until she could escape. I don’t think there is any hope for reconciliation now. Joe keeps telling everyone else to calm down, but he appears just as rattled as everyone else. In fact, he seems to be on the verge of a mental breakdown. The FBI agents are not doing a particularly good job of protecting their own.

I also gave this episode a five.
I was worried that Agent Westen(sp) would "just miss" Roderick for the whole episode...as last episode the ambulance door closed ...barring Agent Westens view when Ryan was introduced to the Sheriff...and then in this episode, Roderick left the room just as Agent Westen walked into the room.
BUT...
Ryan sent him in the exact direction Roderick went!
Okay...the slow arrival of back up so cult members can escape...that mechanism is getting "creaky" at this point...
But the plot element that really bothers me...is stuff with Claire.
Instead of letting Ryan FOCUS on saving her son...she DELIBERATELY allowed..insisted even...on being taken.
Throwing yet another monkey wrench into the mix, and stressing Ryan to the point where he almost totally lost focus and gave up.
It COULD have killed him...as such things are bad for his heart...especially when combined with the alcohol stupor he placed himself in immediately after.
So Claire was: "I love you Ryan...here, let me help Joe to kill you faster!"
Claire was never going to be able to battle past Joe and all of his Followers even IF she actually was taken immediately to her son...which she wasn't.
Talk about NOT thinking things through.
At all.
TOTAL move that made everything worse instead of better.
No upside of this.

*laughs* You saw my struggle with the spelling of Agent Weston! I had a prof in college whose name was Wesson...and I do not think I ever did spell it right...I always switched the "o" with an "e". Or... ...was it the other way around? And you are right...I do not want Claire to be collateral damage either... And...when one DOES think about it... Her son was safe with Ryan...she saw that... ...and her next move was to try to kill Joe... ...perhaps put a stop to the whole insanity once and for all. And, she knew she would probably be killed if she succeeded...or even if she didn't succeed...but it was a sacrifice she willingly decided to make...so her son...and others...could be safe from Joe forever. Except Joe did not die. I hope Claire does not die either.
