Watching the news it is so heartbreaking I don't know for sure but I'm betting that some terrorist decided to set off bombs on what is a world famous event with unarmed people who are advocating health and exercising.
The news is reporting that 2 people have lost their lives because of the bombing there is widespread injuries so far 23 people are hurt.

We've been watching the coverage at my office.... unbelievable.
It turned into a discussion of "what's worse":
Having this be the work of a single, crazed/mentally unstable person
Or the terrorism of a hate-group.
....and how sad that our culture has become used to such discussions.

It's awful that these types of people could care less about what our founding fathers fought so hard to give us, a life from fear and yet now people are living in fear!

I've been keeping up with the coverage. This is horrible, and I pray that everyone we know that either live in the area or was in the area for the event are safe.

It is is awful to know that some people just have no compassion for human life, I mean I know I got frustrated with my class yesterday but I would never ever do anything to harm them!

I just got home from work. We heard about it there, and didn't have TV, but we did have radio. Unfortunately all we could get was this stupid talk radio station where they'd have a blip about it on ABC news at the top of the hour, but the idiot syndicated talk show hosts spent the rest of the hour talking about the threat of gun control regulations and the IRS (since it's tax day.) Idiots.
I came here before even watching the video coverage, as I want to be here with my folks more than anything right now, as I go through watching it.
This takes me right back to 9/11, too.
What an insane time to live in,suddenly. We've got North Korea threatening to nuke us, and now this madness

Ok, just saw the video now and am watching the coverage on CNN. How terrible.
They're now saying 132 injured, 17 of them critically, which means they are fighting for their lives. 2 confirmed dead, one an 8-year-old boy. At least one person had a leg blown off.
Thank goodness there seemed to be lots of emergency personnel on duty when it happened.
The big question: is this international terrorism, or, like the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma, domestic terrorism?
What do you think?
I'm also wondering, do we have anyone in or near Boston?

I never even heard about the Oklahoma bombing, so I am not sure.
That would be my question too, I hope we don't have anyone in or near Boston.

The hockey game between the Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins has been postponed because of the explosion at Boston.
This reminds me more of the Atlanta Olympics bombing which was done by Eric Rudolph who is currently serving four life terms without the possibility of parole he spent 5 years on the run and had bombed abortion clinic it is suspected that he had help when he was on the run with many anti abortionist organizations, but they are not considered to be terrorist organizations.

I know they are having an earthquake over in Iraq but I hadn't heard about a bombing there! I do remember the bombings in Oklahoma City and Atlanta (I was 10 and 12 when they happened!), my dad studied about the Oklahoma City one quite a bit, he was almost obsessed with it. My dad had a lot of strange quirks and became fascinated by various topics! The death count sadly now has risen to 3! Heart-breaking! Update: I just remembered that I had a really close call with a bombing at the same time that the Oklahoma City bombings took place, some crazed drug addict man in the neighborhood where I grew up, literally had a bomb in his basement and he planned to bomb the entire neighborhood! We had to evacuate for nearly 4-5 hours before it was declared safe to return back home, the authorities literally called in the bomb squad and I still remember gathering a few items and putting them into a sleeping bag not knowing if I would ever be able to return back home or not. The items I grabbed where a few pieces of clothing, my small group of writing notebooks (I only had like 2 at the time since I was only 10 at the time), my eyeglass case, a few toys of mine and a some toiletries like toothpaste and toothbrushes. I just listened to Mr. Obama's speech on the radio on how they still don't know who was behind yesterday's attacks but is urging all Americans to report anything suspicious and he seems to believe this was an act of terrorism, I can't say I agree with him but I can't say don't agree either, I just say we'll have to see what happens!

God bless you and everyone in the area always!!!

P.S. With my grandmother being gone, all of my grandparents are a thing of the past now.

It's interesting how when a President needs an excuse to go to war, suddenly there's a "terrorist attack" on Amercian soil.

Ah, the wisdom of modern warfare. The last time we went to battle (after the 9/11 attacks) we picked the wrong countries at the behest of our leaders, spending lives like cotton candy in Afghanistan and Iraq. In the end, it turned out to be our 'ally' Pakistan who was harboring Osama Bin Laden. And there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, only spider holes and palaces. To be fair, there was some chemical warfare used on their part against their own people, and perhaps that's reason enough, but it's not why we went there.
There are several things that strike out to me that this may be domestic terrorism rather than international terrorrism (and at this point we don't know which it is.) The most important is the crudity of the bombs.
If Al-Queda was behind this, there would be hundreds of people dead, rather than three. And they wouldn't have struck at a point in the race where there was so much triage available for the injured as there was at the finish line. I may be wrong, but this sounds like homegrown cowardly idiots to me.

On doing some more research I've found that the pressure cooker bomb has been used in the middle east as well, so it's still up in the air as to what kind of terrorist it was.
HOWEVER, they just announced that as a result of closed circuit video feeds a suspect has been arrested in the bombing. A press conference will be held later this afternoon to announce more.

Yes!
To back-up the good Captain...
I have this:
BOSTON - A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Wednesday in a breakthrough that came less than 48 hours after the deadly attack, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said Wednesday.
The official spoke shortly after several media outlets reported that a suspect had been identified from surveillance video taken at a Lord & Taylor store between the sites of the two bomb blasts, which killed three people and wounded more than 170.
The official was not authorized to divulge details of the investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The suspect was expected at a Boston courthouse, the official said.
A news briefing was scheduled later Wednesday.

Thanks Darwin, but you probably just saw/heard the latest report just now that I did.
Sources are now saying that there IS no person under arrest, and that the suspect has not been identified, although they do have photos/video of him and are searching for him.

You're welcome...
And...
...Yep...got that too...
A suspect has not been arrested in the Boston bombing case, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
There were conflicting reports on whether or not a suspect has been arrested in relation to the bombing attack that occurred during the Boston Marathon, on Monday. American news agency CNN first reported that someone was taken into custody, Wednesday.
However, the network is now stepping back from previous statements, saying that initial reports were confusing.

The latest:
Updated: Fri, 19 Apr 2013 12:24:11 GMT | By Pete Williams, Richard Esposito, Michael Isikoff and Tracy Connor, NBC News
Boston on lockdown during marathon manhunt for white-hat suspect
Boston and its surburbs, universities and transit system were on total lockdown Friday as police hunted for marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev -- on the loose after his accomplice brother was killed in a stunning chain of events that left one cop dead and another injured, officials said.
Authorities were confronting a double-edged nightmare: a ruthless killer at large in a densely populated area and a four-mile stretch of road possibly littered with explosive devices tossed from the suspects' getaway vehicle during a wild chase and firefights. An explosive was found in Boston and disabled, an official said.
A possible associate of the brothers was also being sought.
Two unidentified people were taken into custody at the Cambridge, Mass., home where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan grew up, but they were not being described as additional suspects. Three dozen FBI agents were surrounding the house.
Across the area, as police cars screamed down streets and helicopters hovered overhead, authorities urged the public to stay inside, their doors locked to anyone but law-enforcement officers.
"There is a massive manhunt under way," Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said. "We are asking people to shelter in place."
The lockdown initially affected more than 300,000 people in Cambridge, Watertown, Newton, Brighton, Allston and Belmont, but by 8 a.m., the entire city of Boston was paralyzed, officials said.
Watertown, where the second suspect was last seen, was the epicenter of the search. Frightened residents were trapped in their homes as convoys of heavily armed officers and troops arrived by the hour.
Harvard University, Boston University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Emerson University were all closed and students were told to stay inside. Boston public schools were shuttered for the day.
The overnight violence began near MIT about five hours after the FBI released surveillance photos of the two men suspected of planting two bombs near the finish line of Monday's Boston Marathon, killing three and wounding 176.
Tips about the identity of the suspects were still pouring in when the Tsarnaev brothers robbed a 7-Eleven then fatally shot an MIT police officer in his vehicle at 10:20 p.m., law enforcement officials said.
The brothers -- of Chechen origin, but legal permanent residents of the U.S. who moved here a decade ago -- then carjacked a Mercedes SUV, briefly holding the driver captive before letting him go and taking off, sources said.
During a chase between Cambridge and Watertown, the suspects threw explosives out the window, sources said.
“There was a long exchange of gunfire,” Andrew Kitzenberg of Watertown told NBC News in an interview.
“They were also utilizing bombs, which sounded and looked like grenades, while engaging in the gunfight,” he said. “They also had what looked like a pressure-cooker bomb.
“I saw them light this bomb. They threw it towards the officers,” he said. “There was smoke that covered our entire street.”
A transit officer, identified as Richard H. Donahue, 33, was injured in the gunfight. Authorities said he was in surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital.
Kitzenberg said he saw the firefight end when Tamerlan Tsarnaev ran toward the officers and ultimately fell to the ground.
Tamerlan— the man in the black hat from FBI photos released six hours earlier — had an improvised explosive device strapped to his chest, law enforcement officials said.
Dzhokhar -- who was wearing a white hat in the surveillance photos from the marathon -- drove the SUV through a line of police officers at the end of the street, Kitzenberg said.
Police said Dzhokhar has a Massachusetts driver's license and lived in Cambridge. He was described as light-skinned and with brown, curly hair, and wearing a gray hoodie. The FBI was releasing more photos of him.
"We believe this man to be a terrorist," Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said. "We believe this to be a man who's come here to kill people."
Armored humvees and busloads of law-enforcement could be seen rolling into Watertown in the hours after the gunfight. A photo showed two officers in military gear lying on a backyard shed with their weapons trained on a home.
"We've got every asset we could possibly muster on the ground right now," Patrick said.
Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director Robert Mueller headed to the White House to brief President Obama on the developments.
