I'm not really into the idea of Cas spying on the boys still and poofing beers. I'm clinging to the hope that his return won't be a total train wreck and that he will have LEARNED SOMETHING from this whole mess. Since it's the second half of the season and it's supposed to focus on Sam, the beer thing HAS to do with Sammy somehow. I feel it in my banana peel.

I'm pretty sure from Twitter allusions a while back the "old friend" will be Sheriff Mills. But you'd be mad if the spoon bending and the beer disappearing were Cass's doing? Him trying to communicate with Dean? Just clarifying. If this is to me, then nah, I won't be mad if the spoonbending and beer disappearing is Cas' doing. I personally believe it is. But I won't be disappointed if it's Sam's powers emerging again, because I want to see this happening too. And.. does Sheriff Mills really count as a 'surprising encounter with an old friend'?? I mean, they just saw her a few months ago.

Oh oh! Did anyone notice Sam, when he was antagonizing the monster?? That was SO like Soulless Sam it was creepy. It'd be so cool if we got to see bits and pieces of him mixed in with everything else. Seriously, I just rewatched it and got chills. Like Sam really /isn't/ alright.

if it is sam, at least this mojo won't give him nosebleeds or turn his eyes black. altho, he could end up with some nasty hangovers

Cathie, not that wasn't to you. And I noticed that about Sam too and got really worried. God, I hope he hasn't went and lost his soul again or something.
As for who poofed and/or drank the beer. For the moment I'm firmly on the Cass Spoon and Beer Wagon until further notice.
I'm still trying to figure out how to quote people on this thing.

I guess I didn't like this episode as much as the rest of you did. For me something is missing from SPN these days. It just doesn't have the heart and sould it used to have. Makes me really sad to have to say this. I'm just so disappointed in everything right now.

I gave it a 6. It was just OK. I'm going to stay in my denial bubble awhile longer because I don't think Bobby is dead. Except for Sam saying one time to Kristy than Bobby had passed away they never said he was dead. I think Jodie is taking care of him somewhere because they are protecting him from the Levis.
We got some brother bonding which is always good. Poor Dean trying to paste on a smile when he feels so miserable. And poor Sam asking Dean if he's OK even though he knows he won't tell him the truth. But it was cute how Sam curled up to go to sleep while Dean drove. For some reason I really liked that.

I gave the episode a 9. I liked the supporting characters, although the villains were semi-lame. I'm sad that Bobby is gone and I'm just waiting for Dean to have a complete meltdown (I'm thinking major tears while sitting inside his baby or maybe I'm just wishing for this).
As for the theories on the beer, the jury is still out for me on it. I would love for it to be Sam's powers returning, but I would be surprised if that was it. I think it's either Bobby's spirit or Cas.
So anybody have a guess on what the leviathans are planning to build in the field?

He has THREE different Sams living inside of him right now. We could be seeing the other two personalities surface. I'm telling ya folks. Sammy is clearly heading for a meltdown. When has he EVER not wanted to talk about it? HE shut DEAN out this time. He turned up the radio, rolled over, and went to sleep! Very NOT Sammy!

I do think you could be right on the Bobby's not dead theory. I could see how the boys would be trying to make the leviathans think Bobby is dead to protect him. It's an interesting idea and would make a great twist down the road. I'm not ruling out a return for Bobby even if he is dead. Oh and I too noticed the Soulless Sam vibe during his questioning of the monsters!! It was one of my fave moments of the episode.

(coughs) Sorry, couldn't resist the conspiracy theorists jab I really would like to think that Bobby's still alive. But Dean did say, to Sam (whom he has no reason to lie to) that Bobby'd spent his last breath giving them those numbers. I do think he's gone guys. That doesn't mean it's permanent..but.. I'd be surprised if they did bring him back in this case.

Gotta agree. Bobby is dead. The "last breath" comment Dean made to Sam sealed the deal for me. Plus, if he was alive, they wouldn't have been so upset. Sam is clearly heading for a break down and Dean is trying to figure out how to fake it until you make it. RIP Bobby.

i've been riding the 'sam is heading for a major meltdown' train for months now. hell, i'm currently sitting in the conductor's chair in the engine i think in order for sam to be fully functional, he needs to find a way to merge his 3 personalities back into one cohesive personality. in order for dean to be fully functional, he needs to take all of his guilt and fears and stab them right in the face. he needs to get in touch with who he really is again.

I gave this episode a big 10. I     it. Plus it got the 5 Rating from me. I got everything in this episode that I was waiting for. Bobby dead. Sam unconscious, bloody and tied up. Loved how he made that creature bite him instead of that guy. One more bite and he would have been dead and Sam knew it and saved his life by getting bitten instead. Dean finally being told by how many others that they have watched their loved ones being killed as well. Maybe Dean will realize that he's not alone and there's other out there experiencing the same thing he is. Loved those scenes with Dean and Krissy as well. The best scene came at the end of the show. Poor Sammy saying he wasn't alright and then trying to go to sleep. I bet Lucifer told him to take a little nap.

I'm not sure how I feel about the episode. I didn't like the whole "3 week" think.... I kinda, especially after the hiatus, wanted to go back to the hospital and finish what was happening there. I didn't like just skipping over that. Not seeing the hunter's funeral though leaves the door open for Bobby still being in a coma. I LOVE Bobby. I'm really hoping that he comes back.

Still taking it in and haven't formed a final view yet, but I really liked it. It turned out much better than the trailers implied. I'd have liked more of the brothers helping each other through this, and surely something this traumatic would have set off Sam's visions? But I liked the girl, and Frank is a cool character.
Re is Bobby dead? Balance of probabilities yes, but I did wonder about a few things; no body shown, no funeral shown, they avoided outright saying he had died to each other. They said it to others; the hunters daughter, Frank, but used other terminology with each other. He is clearly no longer with them because of the grief they were showing, but is it remotely feasible he is in a coma and they are hiding him from the Levis? I'd say there is a slight chance. If he was 100%, never coming back, door-nail dead they could have shown that much more definitively.
I'll be back to vote when I've watched it again. I'm undecided between 8 and 9/10.

My Mom brought up something interesting.... She thinks that Bobby isn't really dead and is still in a coma and the boys are telling people that he's dead so that the Leviathan think he is dead and don't go after him and try and kill him for good. I like her theory. Also with regards to the beer bottle emptying she thinks it was Cas and not a ghost Bobby. She was kinda bummed later in the eppy when he didn't show up. LOL Interesting theory. While ANYTHING is possible on Supernatural, I couldn't help but notice ALL the references Sam and Dean made to Bobby's being dead . If he was just in a coma then why the dramatic build-up of "week one," "week two" and "week three?" I am second to none in my love of Bobby's character  , but if it was time to kill him off to move the story along, I'm at least happy with the way they did it. And I do LOVE this new Frank character. His snarkiness and smarts make him the perfect Bobby replacement. What do you think?

I was thinking Bobby made the beer disappear. But Cas doing it kind of makes more sense. But if Bobby never left then he could be floating around and he would be very concerned with Dean drinking so much. Shoot maybe it's Ellen. We know she is watching him. I very enjoyed this episode I like it when Sam and Dean are dealing with other hunters. I thought the kid did a great job the interaction between her and Dean was fun to watch. I also liked Sam taking the bite for the other hunter knowing another bite would kill him. I give this episode 10 out of 10. Because it also set up the underlying theme with the leviathan. Plus I dig Frank he is so delightful Paranoid. As the saying goes "it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you."

About the beer.
Whoever it was, I had the feeling it wasn't because this thing drank it. It was to stop Dean drinking it.
So who is more likely to do so, Ghost-Bobby, or Grace of Cas?

First I don't think it was Cas. Those who think it's Cas are ones who constantly want to reference Cas and put him were he doesn't belong. There might be a slight chance of it being Bobby because I don't think he is dead but living in limbo sort of. I did not like this episode at all. Aside from me loving Jensen's acting, there are going know where with his angst. I don't know why they the writers forget that Sam has lost people in his life too, but strangely he is fine and dandy. It was sad that I was feeling more bad for Dean than I did Sam seeing as Sam lost Bobby as well and he was just as important to Sam as he was to Dean. I don't know why the writers do this. I also don't know why they had a filler episode after a long break. If it wasn't for that last scene, this episode would be dead to me. The episodes after the beak used to come back with a bang, but this was a total let down. I guess I was the only one who dared to give this a 1 lol

The episodes after the beak used to come back with a bang, but this was a total let down. I guess I was the only one who dared to give this a 1 lol I think people give it the rating they feel it should have. At least I hope that's the way of it and not a question of being brave I gave it an 8, there were some thing I'd have liked to see more of. It's fascinating how the same episode can give off different vibes. To me this was far from a filler. It had to deal with Bobby being dead, if they showed any of the brothers having coped with it already, it would cheapen that. So they gave Dean the Frank talk, picking up the advice of "Snap out of it, you quit, or you do it right." Something I am sure John told him back in the time of their mother dying. Reinforced by Dean not being there with Sam, able to tell him about the monsters hunting in pairs - a mistake that almost cost Sam his life. The last scene in the car was where the story line shifted - as I saw it anyway. Dean accepts that he can't keep being the one hurting, and Sam finally tells Dean he's not ok before going to sleep. Am curious how they'll play in the theme of the next episode, I have a much bigger "filler" feeling about that one. Regardless though, this left me with a sense of torch being handed over, and a purpose. Pretty sure Bobby is dead by the way, likely a ghost, I won't rule that one out. But the way they acted, it wouldn't make sense that they are protecting him from the Levis. If that was the case they'd be busy calling everyone telling them Bobby is dead and gone, have a funeral and shout to the heavens how much they hate that he's no more.

The only scene I enjoyed in this episode. Know that Sam said that he wasn't okay, and very cutely turned to his side to sleep, I wonder how that will play out. But I hope Dean doesn't stick to faking it. I wish they can have Dean and Sam talking about their feelings without over doing it in chick flick. It pained me to see Dean practising his fake smile. It obviously wasn't working and I hope he doesn't just bury his feelings all together. I just want them to be ok! they both need a hug

I think Sam is going to need his biog brother to be a rock pretty soon, that's my gut feeling anyway. And fake/Soldier Dean will come in handy then.
And let's face it, the writers clearly have a thing for not having both brothers being fine at once. Not had that since the first season.
I can settle for a bit back and forth, as long as they don't over do it like the last few seasons of Soapy SPN.

I don't think he seemed like Soulless!Sam. He was trying to avert the attention from that other hunter onto himself in order to protect that hunter. In other words, he was trying to play the hero. It definitely pulled the attention onto him. That's for sure. Soulless!Sam never would have done that. He would've just let the vetala kill the guy.

I'm a total idiot and refuse to believe Bobby is dead on the grounds of there was no salt and burn, it's not official until there is a salt and burn.
I really enjoyed it. I loved that little girl, I swear I was looking at Dean's long lost daughter, she was a lot like him and the actress and Jensen played well off each other. I started laughing when those girls got Sam I was like hunny you have no luck with woman just stay away from them. I felt the last scene was amazing, Dean was basically doing what Frank told him, smile through the pain and I felt the brother love, Dean's face when Krissy told him Sam had not come back was classic Dean Winchester my brother is missing and in danger face and how Dean was like I'm not leaving my brother alone, the love was there.
Anyway I have two ideas, a friend of mine came up with one, she thinks Bobby drank the beer and he's around as a ghost and I think Ellen drank the beer because Ellen all ready gave Dean a butt kicking from the beyond and she seems more to me to be bugged by his drinking them Bobby would and would seem more likely to interven.
Don't mind me I tend to like everything however I do have a beef with last night, I miss the Impala, I hope she comes back soon and when she comes back she gets an epic re entrance.

ok..i just watched the ep from last night.....i liked it!!! there were some really nice brother moments. esp. the line that dean said "i'm not gonna walk out on my brother" with that determined look on his face and the ending scene were the highlights for me...it had a s1-2 feel to it...i gave it a 9
and i think he understands the whole college situation...
