Wishing everyone a pleasant, safe no drama filled day of family, friends, football (I’ll be watching Hockey) turkey, ham, and way too much pie day.
I’m going to my brother’s house for Thanksgiving where all the family will be under the same roof at the same time I don’t think that has happen in over 3 years.
Last year I went to my brothers house for Thanksgiving where we all had a great time.
Before the very large dinner they had put out the chips and dips, mixed olive plate, mixed fruit and raw vegetable platter with a variety of dips, hummus with tahini. blue cheese and guacamole, homemade deviled eggs, shrimp with cocktail sauce, crab legs and of course a meat and cheese platter.
My sister-in-law laid out made a beautiful table scape in the dining room with flowers, candles and Christmas ornaments in the red, white and gold color theme scattered on the red cloth in the center of the table in the dining room .
Is it okay for us to call sitting the 5 children who are in their early thirties to mid twenty on the kids table in the kitchen?
The kids table was set up with simple decorations of the season, red candles, red and gold tone leaves in the center of the table it was a nice good looking table scape with the same table ware as the adult table.
She had set the adult table with her good tableware, the silverware has a touch of gold at the top of the silverware, nice plates (large dinner plate, bread and butter plate and a salad plate) all white with a gold trim ridged edge, water and wine glasses with a gold trim at the top of the glasses, a white table cloth over the table, a red cloth in the center of the table, matching red cloth napkins, red cloth under the plate setting, large plastic red and white candy canes decorations hanging on the gold tone chandelier that is over the table it really was quite special of a table.
We had all the fixin’s turkey, honey brown sugar glazed ham, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, great bottle of red wine, dinner rolls, cornbread stuffings, wedge lettuce salad with a homemade blue cheese dressing and bacon crumbly on top, yams, mixed buttered vegetables broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and oven roasted seasoned asparagus and of lastly homemade cranberry sauce with a touch of nutmeg.
For dessert they had three different kinds of pies to choose from apple cinnamon crumb top, pumpkin and a mixed berry pie.
After dinner I helped to clear the table, had her son take out the trash, stacked the plates, put the silverware in a small bucket as they all have to be washed by hand she had started one of her dishwashers (yes they have two dishwashers) .
This year we are expecting them to have the menu and we will all have way too much to drink and eat.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. We will go to the in-laws' home for dinner. We alternate the location each year because everyone would like to host the dinner rather than drive.
Traditionally, we have stuffed turkey, ham, collards/kale, sauerkraut, potatoes, freshly baked rolls, pies, cranberry sauce. My daughter is going to make the cranberry sauce this year for the first time.
It is always pleasant no matter which home hosts the dinner so I do look forward to it. There is never any alcoholic beverage served although the families are not prohibitionists. I have never asked why; it is just the tradition.

Hey all,
I have grown up having turkey and other traditional fixings for Thanksgiving. Last year my mom and I started a new set of traditions. Since Mom gave up eating all meats except for fish and shellfish, we decided to fix non-traditional foods like eggplant parmasean, key lime pie or peppermint pie with some traditional dishes like green bean casserole and squash casserole, chilled cranberry sauce and maybe vegetable stuffing. We will be celebrating just the two of us and we will have our meal around 3 or 4 pm.
We will even try to make a chess pie as well, since I have never had it, we have a recipe from one of my aunts so I know it be yummy.
Take care and let's be thankful for the blessings we have been given.
Yours, AVP

Wishing all the evicted a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. I won't be celebrating until the following Saturday.....nephew has to work on Thanksgiving...he's an L.A. County fireman. So my actual Thanksgiving Day will be relatively quiet. That's fine by me. The older I get, the more I appreciate quiet.

May I recommend instead of a squash casserole how about taking one or two acorn squashes cut in half remove the seeds, bake in a moderate oven 350 until almost done (about 45 minutes) take the acorn squash out of the oven fill the cavities' with either cooked homemade cranberry sauce that you have added a touch of nutmeg or fill the squash with a little brown sugar and real maple sugar finish cooking the squash in the oven about 15 minutes it is colorful, incredibly tasty it makes a great side dish and would look good next to the eggplant parmesan.

I have never had sauerkraut on Thanksgiving it does sound good. very Germanic. Some families should never sever alcohol when everyone is together, glad that I'm not one of them.

My thanksgivings will not be quiet we are loud with lots laughter and lot of people but as I stated we don't get together often, anymore I do miss all my family being together for the holidays. One of my favorite memories is looking at my dad looking out the window seeing all his offspring with a big giant smile on his face as he watched all of us getting along outside and enjoying everyone's company.

I miss my mom and dad at holiday time. Somehow, it just doesn't quite feel like Thanksgiving and Christmas without them there. The holidays used to be hard on all the kids with both parents gone, my oldest brother died 4 years back but we always remember them on their birthdays and holidays. We were prepared to lose both my father (he was 84 years old and had a great life except for his last year) and my eldest brother lived 5 years longer then the doctors gave him he had a bad heart, diabetes and drank way too much, my mother died to soon from cancer at least she died at home surround by her children, I was too young to lose my mother I was only 23 years old when she died we all miss her terribly. Now it looks like we will lose our brother Charles who is now the oldest he has diabetes and is suffering from Agent Orange disease he has good days but they are getting fewer and fewer, I e-mail weekly and talk to him on the phone twice a month he is always going in the out of the hospital. My mother had 6 children I'm the only girl and 5th in the line up I always wanted a younger sister no such luck, stuck with a bunch of boys, I do understand the male mind. My mother had 6 kids in 7 years, they were busy parents.

3Sheets' Thanksgiving sounds like our Christmas Holiday gatherings when my parents were alive. It was open house with people dropping by all day. We would set a time to sit down to eat, but it was okay that others dropped by and ate whenever. There was a lot of drinking and laughter and silliness. My family acts silly anyway and there is never anything serious discussed. My favorite is the whenever the in-laws bring up their adult offsprings' most embarrassing moments every Thanksgiving.

It has been several months since the whole family got together but it sounds like they will be there this time.
I was there for Thanksgiving for the first time last year. In past years I went to K&W and I'm still hoping to go there when they have turkey because they know how to make turkey and dressing how I like it. I also don't want to miss the parades but last year I took a chance and taped the Charlotte parade. I almost lost the Macy's parade by doing that but I got home in time to prevent the TiVo from deleting that. I had too much stuff on it.
My aunt and uncle have four children. The oldest has a husband and a college-age son and they come from some distance away. The daughter my age has a husband and two of her children and two of his children. They each have one grandchild, and I think one of the other children without a grandchild is married. The other brings a friend. The youngest daughter has a husband and two sons. The son has a wife and three children.
I think we had turkey last year, despite my uncle saying, as we passed a barbecue restaurant one of the last times we saw my grandmother in the nursing home, that he'd like barbecue.

I got a turkey breast that I will be cooking on Thanksgiving Day since the rest of the family isn't celebrating until Saturday. My nephew has to work and we're putting off the family get together until we can all be together. It will actually be kind of nice.

I'm not doing anything special. I'll probably watch dvds and make a bacon cheeseburger.

The only holiday I celebrate is Halloween. I'm not a very traditional type of person. Doesn't everyone love Halloween? Everyone should love a good costume party and cheap candy at the stores the day after Halloween. I do like Thanksgiving just because I like turkey and never get enough throughout the year and I like it when I see my large family members as we all get along with many things in common. I only like Christmas because I'm greedy and I don't care if I see my family as long as they send me presents.

I've made my stuffing and it's in the fridge waiting for tomorrow. I hope I can put some in the turkey breast....we'll have to see how big it is and if there's enough sking to pull it shut.
Almost nothing smells better than a turkey in the oven and I can hardly wait for tomorrow. I also have some sweet potatoes to bake off in the oven. I have mashed too....can't decide which to have yet.

We just ate lunch and some of the people are leaving.
Everyone seemed happy enough, but there is a big news story that I wasn't aware anyone I knew had a connection with.
There was a high-profile murder in the area. It even made the TV news, and there was a lot of relief when the suspect was caught. An older man was robbed at his business. When my cousin said her husband's uncle died, I didn't know that's who he was. The husband was complaining about the gory details that went in the newspaper.
My cousin got on the phone and talked to a woman I assume was the victim's wife. She said the woman shouldn't be alone today. They were coming over later with some food and if she wanted to cry, they would let her.

I will add that only one person we were expecting didn't show up. That's the friend of the oldest granddaughter. She was supposed to bring a "special needs" person that she takes care of.
My cousin said she invited the woman she talked to on the phone, but the woman wouldn't come. She brought a delicious pork dish which she said was made with a whiskey marinade. Someone said no wonder I liked it so much. That was as close as we got to having any alcohol.
Although someone was talking about making moonshine. I'm pretty sure they weren't really.
