I've been re-watching all of the seasons from season 1 to 7, and there are a lot of things I've noticed in season 7 that happen in other seasons. It just proves to me how much these writers really looked to the earlier seasons for guidance. I think they ruined a good opportunity, and merely chose things that worked well from previous seasons. For example:
Paris having a hard time deciding what school to go to because of Doyle (same thing happened with Jamie)
Lorelai randomly taking Rory on a drive to tell her that her marriage with Christopher is over (same when Lorelai told Rory her engagement to Max was over)
Richard's in the hospital. Again. Luke visits. Again.
Mia is strangely brought up again. And, although it's not the writers fault, the original Mia is unavailable, leaving for an unbelievably younger-looking Mia to take her place.
Logan falls back on his rich, party-boy ways.
The birthday episode with Logan.
Rory's pro-con list.
There are definitely more. I made a mental note each time I heard/saw something, but I didn't decide to make this list until just now. I'm about to start the episode where Lorelai sings to Luke in season seven.
I never hated season 7, well except for the chris storyline. But re watching this makes me angry about the writers. They had a responsibility to send this show off properly. While I agree the finale was as good as we ever could have gotten without ASP and Dan, it still leaves a lot to be wanted.
Here's hoping for a movie.
