So it would seem nearly every book either is or will be a movie some movie adaptions were great whereas others were a flop
Here you can post your thoughts on them wether you loved or hated them did they stand up to your expectations were they like the book or not
Please be respectful

I like this topic and I would like to start by talking about a book written by one of our favorite authors, Stephen King.
The Shining was a remarkable book. When I started reading it, I thought it was a thriller. It gradually drew me into the realm of the supernatural and I did not know what was real and what was not. Before the book ended, I had screamed several times. The most embarrassing scream occurred on the subway where I briefly became the center of attention. Stephen King is the only author who affects me that way.
Did the movie live up to the book? Yes, a thousand times "yes!" I did not anticipate being frightened because I knew what to expect. But the characters in the movie played their parts so well that anticipation of the father's downward spiral made me nervous and filled me with anxiety.
I will never forget REDRUM written on the mirror or the scene where the father hammers on the door. It was all truly frightening.
I loved the movie...in spite of the fact that my daughter had recurring nightmares of Jack N.

I've started the book but frankly I'm too chicken to read it all the way through I love the movie too the one with jack n. The other one wasn't nearly as good and I know just what you mean about Stephen King he is an exceptional writer and he does draw you into the story with his characters

I saw a preview for Odd Thomas And it seems pretty decent Somehow I ended up reading the fourth book first but it seemed an intriguing story with a quirky unique main character that you couldnt wait to learn of his adventures

I have not read The Fault In Our Stars, but I saw an extended trailer for it when I went to a movie theater. It looked like a beautiful story of triumph over adversity.
Also, the male character was on The Tonight Show this week and told us that although people think the story is about cancer, it is really a love story. They also said the book is extremely popular.

Here is a book that was made into a movie 30 years ago. My mom actually saw this one while pregnant with me and about a year ago I finally sat down and read the book after seeing the movie twice. This was the beloved story of Dune created by Frank Herbert.
The story takes place in the future and it tells of a messiah known as Maud'dib and the movie does a fairly decent job of portraying some of the characters including Paul, his mother Jessica, his father Leto and others. A few things are toned down in the movie like the awful baron who is a homosexual and is the estranged father of Jessica's and how he is super fat and ugly.
The movie also leaves certain details out like how Leto is not respectful of other cultures, there is one culture that collects the dirty used water of the royals and uses it for the regular people of that planet to use to bathe with yet this scene is not shown.
A few details are added in like Duncan Idaho is murdered in this film yet in the book he is later resurrected and becomes a lover to Paul's sister Alia which makes the murder insignificant to the film adaptation.
I really loved the book even though it is tad confusing at times because it is hard to keep all of the details together but with the help of the mini encyclopedia in the back of the book it helps you a lot in keeping it all straight, unfortunately in the future novels they have done away with this feature.
The movie was really good even though it had errors in it but it was done and even though I am not a huge Patrick Stewart fan I do like him in the role of Gurney the personal slave/tutor of Paul's.

The "sarah, plain and tall" movies based on the books were pretty closely similar and the last Peter Pan movie (made in 2003) with the first male actor playing Peter Pan was very similar to the book.

I should whisper the following comments because Wrestlingfan gets hostile when he thinks about Twilight. The "Twilight Series" movies kept the story line, characters and action the same as in the books. Whether a person was a Bella fan, Edward fan or a Jacob fan, she had to be impressed by the way the movies portrayed the characters. Did the movies do the books justice? Absolutely! We are still talking about the climax in the final movie. It was so awesome I watched it twice. They did an amazing job bringing it to life.

"Big Driver" movie will air on Lifetime on October 18, 2014. It is based on a novella in a Stephen King collection of short stories. The book is titled Full Dark, No Stars and was published in 2010. Is anyone interested in watching the movie?
I have placed a hold on the book at the local library so that I can read the book before the movie airs.
