Which, as usual, begs the eternal question....
So if you see a deranged-looking hamster juggler running through the streets in her birthday suit, don't worry -- it's tradition among my people. Actually, you still might want to worry, depending on what sort of traditional birthday refreshments I partook of beforehand ....![]()
Basically, if I appear to be levitating and/or flickering in and out of existence, you should probably just stay indoors until I move on to the next town, but otherwise feel free to offer birthday greetings as I (literally) streak past. You may cover the eyes of impressionable young people if you wish, but there's really nothing to worry about -- I am sufficiently hairy that they should be no more traumatized then they would if a fleet-footed orangutan of similar stature were to make her way through town*.
If you feel so inclined, you may provide tribute/offerings/bribes/etc. The presence/absence and quality of these may or may not affect your crops, cattle, job prospects, and general family health and longevity in the months to come. With these qualifications in mind, gifts of hamsters and/or hamster-related materials are most appreciated. Gifts of chipmunks, prairie dogs, or any being belonging to family Mustelidae will be interpreted as an act of war.
*The mention of streets and orangutans is in no way meant to subtly suggest that my ancestors' birthday antics were somehow involved in the inspiration of Poe's famous detective stories, though I should stress that I am also unable to guarantee that this was *not* the case.
